| Matthew 4:1 | At that time Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the Desert in order to be tempted by the Devil. | Then Jesus was carried up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil: | Then Jesus was sent by the Spirit into the waste land to be tested by the Evil One. |
| Matthew 4:2 | There He fasted for forty days and nights; and after that He suffered from hunger. | and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he hungered. | And after going without food for forty days and forty nights, he was in need of it. |
| Matthew 4:3 | So the Tempter came and said, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to turn into loaves." | And the tempter coming up to him said, If thou be Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread. | And the Evil One came and said to him, If you are the Son of God, give the word for these stones to become bread. |
