Matthew 4:1 | At that time Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the Desert in order to be tempted by the Devil. | Then Jesus was carried up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted of the devil: | Then was Jesus led by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil. |
Matthew 4:2 | There He fasted for forty days and nights; and after that He suffered from hunger. | and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he hungered. | And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry. |
Matthew 4:3 | So the Tempter came and said, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to turn into loaves." | And the tempter coming up to him said, If thou be Son of God, speak, that these stones may become loaves of bread. | And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou art the son of God, command that these stones be made bread. |
Matthew 4:4 | "It is written," replied Jesus, "`It is not on bread alone that a man shall live, but on whatsoever God shall appoint.'" | But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which goes out through God's mouth. | But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. |
Matthew 4:5 | Then the Devil took Him to the Holy City and caused Him to stand on the roof of the Temple, | Then the devil takes him to the holy city, and sets him upon the edge of the temple, | Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, |
Matthew 4:6 | and said, "If you are God's Son, throw yourself down; for it is written, "`To His angels He will give orders concerning thee, and on their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any moment thou shouldst strike thy foot against a stone.'" | and says to him, If thou be Son of God cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall give charge to his angels concerning thee, and on [their] hands shall they bear thee, lest in anywise thou strike thy foot against a stone. | And saith to him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall uphold thee, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. |
Matthew 4:7 | "Again it is written," replied Jesus, "`Thou shalt not put the Lord thy God to the proof.'" | Jesus said to him, It is again written, Thou shalt not tempt [the] Lord thy God. | Jesus said to him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. |

Matthew 4:10 | "Begone, Satan!" Jesus replied; "for it is written, `To the Lord thy God thou shalt do homage, and to Him alone shalt thou render worship.'" | Then says Jesus to him, Get thee away, Satan, for it is written, Thou shalt do homage to [the] Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve. | Then saith Jesus to him, Be gone, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. |

Matthew 4:15 | "Zebulun's land and Naphtali's land; the road by the Lake; the country beyond the Jordan; Galilee of the Nations! | Land of Zabulon and land of Nepthalim, way of [the] sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations: | The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: |
Matthew 4:16 | The people who were dwelling in darkness have seen a brilliant light; and on those who were dwelling in the region of the shadow of death, on them light has dawned." | the people sitting in darkness has seen a great light, and to those sitting in [the] country and shadow of death, to them has light sprung up. | The people who sat in darkness, saw great light; and to them who sat in the region and shades of death, light hath arisen. |
Matthew 4:17 | From that time Jesus began to preach.
