Luke 3:1Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being Governor of Judaea, Herod Tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip Tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias Tetrarch of Abilene,Now in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brother tetrarch of Ituraea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
Luke 3:2during the High-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, a message from God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the Desert.in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, [the] word of God came upon John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.
Luke 3:3John went into all the district about the Jordan proclaiming a baptism of the penitent for the forgiveness of sins;And he came into all the district round the Jordan, preaching [the] baptism of repentance for [the] remission of sins,He came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance to remission of sins.
Luke 3:4as it is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah, "The voice of one crying aloud! `In the Desert prepare ye a road for the Lord: make His highway straight.as it is written in [the] book of [the] words of Esaias the prophet: Voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of [the] Lord, make straight his paths.As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.
Luke 3:5Every ravine shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill levelled down, the crooked places shall be turned into straight roads, and the rugged ways into smooth;Every gorge shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked [places] shall become a straight [path], and the rough places smooth ways,Every valley will be filled. Every mountain and hill will be brought low. The crooked will become straight, And the rough ways smooth.
Luke 3:6and then shall all mankind see God's salvation.'"and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.All flesh will see God's salvation.'"
Luke 3:7Accordingly John used to say to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, "O vipers' brood, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath?He said therefore to the crowds which went out to be baptised by him, Offspring of vipers, who has forewarned you to flee from the coming wrath?He said therefore to the multitudes who went out to be baptized by him, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Luke 3:8Live lives which shall prove your change of heart; and do not begin to say to yourselves, `We have Abraham as our forefather,' for I tell you that God can raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones.Produce therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say in yourselves, We have Abraham for [our] father, for I say unto you that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and don't begin to say among yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father;' for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones!
Luke 3:9And even now the axe is lying at the root of the trees, so that every tree which fails to yield good fruit will quickly be hewn down and thrown into the fire."And already also the axe is applied to the root of the trees; every tree therefore not producing good fruit is cut down and cast into [the] fire.Even now the ax also lies at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that doesn't bring forth good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire."
Luke 3:10The crowds repeatedly asked him, "What then are we to do?"And the crowds asked him saying, What should we do then?The multitudes asked him, "What then must we do?"
Luke 3:11"Let the man who has two coats," he answered, "give one to the man who has none; and let the man who has food share it with others."And he answering says to them, He that has two body-coats, let him give to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise.He answered them, "He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise."
Luke 3:12There came also a party of tax-gatherers to be baptized, and they asked him, "Rabbi, what are we to do?"And tax-gatherers came also to be baptised, and they said to him, Teacher, what should we do?Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, "Teacher, what must we do?"
Luke 3:13"Do not exact more than the legal amount," he replied.And he said to them, Take no more [money] than what is appointed to you.He said to them, "Extort no more than that which is appointed you."
Luke 3:14The soldiers also once and again inquired of him, "And we, what are we to do?" His answer was, "Neither intimidate any one nor lay false charges; and be content with your pay."And persons engaged in military service also asked him saying, And we, what should we do? And he said to them, Oppress no one, nor accuse falsely, and be satisfied with your pay.Soldiers also asked him, saying, "What about us? What must we do?" He said to them, "Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages."
Luke 3:15And while the people were in suspense and all were debating in their minds whether John might possibly be the Anointed One,But as the people were in expectation, and all were reasoning in their hearts concerning John whether *he* might be the Christ,As the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he was the Christ,
Luke 3:16he answered the question by saying to them all, "As for me, I am baptizing you with water, but One mightier than I is coming, whose very sandal-strap I am not worthy to unfasten: He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire.John answered all, saying, *I* indeed baptise you with water, but the mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not fit to unloose; *he* shall baptise you with [the] Holy Spirit and fire;John answered them all, "I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,
Luke 3:17His winnowing-shovel is in His hand to clear out His threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into His storehouse; but the chaff He will burn up in fire unquenchable."whose winnowing-fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his threshing-floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner, but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
Luke 3:18With many exhortations besides these he declared the Good News to the people.Exhorting then many other things also he announced [his] glad tidings to the people.Then with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people,
Luke 3:19But Herod the Tetrarch, being repeatedly rebuked by him about Herodias his brother's wife, and about all the wicked deeds that he had done,But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him as to Herodias, the wife of his brother, and as to all the wicked things which Herod had done,but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias, his brother's wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,
Luke 3:20now added this to crown all the rest, that he threw John into prison.added this also to all [the rest], that he shut up John in prison.added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
Luke 3:21Now when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the sky opened,And it came to pass, all the people having been baptised, and Jesus having been baptised and praying, that the heaven was opened,Now it happened, when all the people were baptized, that, Jesus also having been baptized, and praying, the sky was opened,
Luke 3:22and the Holy Spirit came down in bodily shape, like a dove, upon Him, and a voice came from Heaven, which said, "Thou art My Son, dearly loved: in Thee is My delight."and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form as a dove upon him; and a voice came out of heaven, *Thou* art my beloved Son, in thee I have found my delight.and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form, as a dove, on him, and a voice came out of the sky, saying "You are my beloved Son. In you I am well pleased."
Luke 3:23And He Jesus when He began His ministry, was about thirty years old. He was the son (it was supposed) of Joseph, son of Heli,And Jesus himself was beginning to be about thirty years old; being as was supposed son of Joseph; of Eli,Jesus himself, when he began to teach, was about thirty years old, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,
