Mark 5:1 | So they arrived at the opposite shore of the Lake, in the country of the Gerasenes. | And they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. | They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. |
Mark 5:2 | At once, on His landing, there came from the tombs to meet Him a man possessed by a foul spirit. | And immediately on his going out of the ship there met him out of the tombs a man possessed by an unclean spirit, | When he had come out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, |
Mark 5:3 | This man lived among the tombs, nor could any one now secure him even with a chain; | who had his dwelling in the tombs; and no one was able to bind him, not even with chains; | who had his dwelling in the tombs. Nobody could bind him any more, not even with chains, |
Mark 5:4 | for many a time he had been left securely bound in fetters and chains, but afterwards the chains lay torn link from link, and the fetters in fragments, and there was no one strong enough to master him. | because he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn asunder by him, and the fetters were shattered; and no one was able to subdue him. | because he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces. Nobody had the strength to tame him. |
Mark 5:5 | And constantly, day and night, he remained among the tombs or on the hills, shrieking, and mangling himself with sharp stones. | And continually night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying and cutting himself with stones. | Always, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones. |
Mark 5:6 | And when he saw Jesus in the distance, he ran and threw himself at His feet, | But seeing Jesus from afar off, he ran and did him homage, | When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and bowed down to him, |
Mark 5:7 | crying out in a loud voice, "What hast Thou to do with me, Jesus, Son of God Most High? In God's name I implore Thee not to torment me." | and crying with a loud voice he says, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, torment me not. | and crying out with a loud voice, he said, "What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, don't torment me." |
Mark 5:8 | For He had said to him, "Foul spirit, come out of the man." | For he said to him, Come forth, unclean spirit, out of the man. | For he said to him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!" |
Mark 5:9 | Jesus also questioned him. "What is your name?" He said. "Legion," he replied, "for there are a host of us." | And he asked him, What is thy name? And he says to him, Legion is my name, because we are many. | He asked him, "What is your name?" He said to him, "My name is Legion, for we are many." |
Mark 5:10 | And he earnestly entreated Him not to send them away out of the country. | And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. | He begged him much that he would not send them away out of the country. |
Mark 5:11 | Feeding there, on the mountain slope, was a great herd of swine. | Now there was there just at the mountain a great herd of swine feeding; | Now there was there on the mountainside a great herd of pigs feeding. |
Mark 5:12 | So they besought Jesus. "Send us to the swine," they said, "so that we may enter into them." | and they besought him, saying, Send us into the swine that we may enter into them. | All the demons begged him, saying, "Send us into the pigs, that we may enter into them." |
Mark 5:13 | He gave them leave; and the foul spirits came out and entered into the swine, and the herd about 2,000 in number rushed headlong down the cliff into the Lake and were drowned in the Lake. | And Jesus [immediately] allowed them. And the unclean spirits going out entered into the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep slope, into the sea (about two thousand), and were choked in the sea. | At once Jesus gave them permission. The unclean spirits came out, and entered into the pigs. The herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea. |
Mark 5:14 | The swineherds fled, and spread the news in town and country. So the people came to see what it was that had happened; | And those that were feeding them fled and reported it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had taken place. | Those who fed them fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. The people came to see what it was that had happened. |
Mark 5:15 | and when they came to Jesus, they beheld the demoniac quietly seated, clothed and of sane mind the man who had had the legion; and they were awe-stricken. | And they come to Jesus, and they see the possessed of demons sitting [and] clothed and sensible, [him] that had had the legion: and they were afraid. | They came to Jesus, and saw him who was possessed by demons sitting, clothed and in his right mind, even him who had the legion; and they were afraid. |
Mark 5:16 | And those who had seen it told them the particulars of what had happened to the demoniac, and all about the swine. | And they that had seen [it] related to them how it had happened to the [man] possessed by demons, and concerning the swine. | Those who saw it declared to them how it happened to him who was possessed by demons, and about the pigs. |
Mark 5:17 | Then they began entreating Him to depart from their district. | And they began to beg him to depart from their coasts. | They began to beg him to depart from their borders. |
Mark 5:18 | As He was embarking, the man who had been possessed asked permission to accompany Him. | And as he went on board ship, the man that had been possessed by demons besought him that he might be with him. | As he was entering into the boat, he who had been possessed by demons begged him that he might be with him. |
Mark 5:19 | But He would not allow it. "Go home to your family," He said, "and report to them all that the Lord has done for you, and the mercy He has shown you." | And he suffered him not, but says to him, Go to thine home to thine own people, and tell them how great things the Lord has done for thee, and has had mercy on thee. | He didn't allow him, but said to him, "Go to your house, to your friends, and tell them how the Lord has done great things for you, and how he had mercy on you." |
Mark 5:20 | So the man departed, and related publicly everywhere in the Ten Towns all that Jesus had done for him; and all were astonished. | And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him; and all wondered. | He went his way, and began to proclaim in Decapolis how Jesus had done great things for him, and everyone marveled. |
Mark 5:21 | When Jesus had re-crossed in the boat to the other side, a vast multitude came crowding to Him; and He was on the shore of the Lake, | And Jesus having passed over in the ship again to the other side, a great crowd gathered to him; and he was by the sea. | When Jesus had crossed back over in the boat to the other side, a great multitude was gathered to him; and he was by the sea. |
Mark 5:22 | when there came one of the Wardens of the Synagogue he was called Jair who, on beholding Him, threw himself at His feet, | And [behold] there comes one of the rulers of the synagogue, by name Jairus, and seeing him, falls down at his feet; | Behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, came; and seeing him, he fell at his feet, |
Mark 5:23 | and besought Him with many entreaties. "My little daughter," he said, "is at the point of death: I pray you come and lay your hands upon her, that she may recover and live." | and he besought him much, saying, My little daughter is at extremity; [I pray] that thou shouldest come and lay thy hands upon her so that she may be healed, and may live. | and begged him much, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death. Please come and lay your hands on her, that she may be made healthy, and live." |
Mark 5:24 | And Jesus went with him. And a dense crowd followed Him, and thronged Him on all sides. | And he went with him, and a large crowd followed him and pressed on him. | He went with him, and a great multitude followed him, and they pressed upon him on all sides. |
Mark 5:25 | Now a woman who for twelve years had suffered from haemorrhage, | And a certain woman who had had a flux of blood twelve years, | A certain woman, who had an issue of blood for twelve years, |
Mark 5:26 | and had undergone many different treatments under a number of doctors and had spent all she had without receiving benefit but on the contrary growing worse, | and had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent everything she had and had found no advantage from it, but had rather got worse, | and had suffered many things by many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better, but rather grew worse, |
Mark 5:27 | heard of Jesus. And she came in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak; | having heard concerning Jesus, came in the crowd behind and touched his clothes; | having heard the things concerning Jesus, came up behind him in the crowd, and touched his clothes. |
Mark 5:28 | for she said, "If I but touch His clothes, I shall be cured." | for she said, If I shall touch but his clothes I shall be healed. | For she said, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be made well." |
Mark 5:29 | In a moment the flow of her blood ceased, and she felt in herself that her complaint was cured. | And immediately her fountain of blood was dried up, and she knew in her body that she was cured from the scourge. | Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her plague. |
Mark 5:30 | Immediately Jesus, well knowing that healing power had gone from within Him, turned round in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?" | And immediately Jesus, knowing in himself the power that had gone out of him, turning round in the crowd said, Who has touched my clothes? | Immediately Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power had gone forth from him, turned around in the crowd, and asked, "Who touched my clothes?" |
Mark 5:31 | "You see the multitude pressing you on all sides," His disciples exclaimed, "and yet you ask, `Who touched me?'" | And his disciples said to him, Thou seest the crowd pressing on thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? | His disciples said to him, "You see the multitude pressing against you, and you say, 'Who touched me?'" |
Mark 5:32 | But He continued looking about to see the person who had done this, | And he looked round about to see her who had done this. | He looked around to see her who had done this thing. |
Mark 5:33 | until the woman, frightened and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and threw herself at His feet, and told Him all the truth. | But the woman, frightened and trembling, knowing what had taken place in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. | But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. |
Mark 5:34 | "Daughter," He said, "your faith has cured you: go in peace, and be free from your complaint." | And he said to her, Daughter, thy faith has healed thee; go in peace, and be well of thy scourge. | He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease." |
Mark 5:35 | While He is yet speaking, men come from the house to the Warden, and say, "Your daughter is dead: why trouble the Rabbi further?" | While he was yet speaking, they come from the ruler of the synagogue's [house], saying, Thy daughter has died, why troublest thou the teacher any further? | While he was still speaking, they came from the synagogue ruler's house saying, "Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?" |
Mark 5:36 | But Jesus, overhearing the words, said to the Warden, "Do not be afraid; only have faith." | But Jesus [immediately], having heard the word spoken, says to the ruler of the synagogue, Fear not; only believe. | But Jesus, not heeding the word spoken, immediately said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Don't be afraid, only believe." |
Mark 5:37 | And He allowed no one to accompany Him except Peter and the brothers James and John. | And he suffered no one to accompany him save Peter and James, and John the brother of James. | He allowed no one to follow him, except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. |
Mark 5:38 | So they come to the Warden's house. Here He gazes on a scene of uproar, with people weeping aloud and wailing. | And he comes to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and sees the tumult, and people weeping and wailing greatly. | He came to the synagogue ruler's house, and he saw an uproar, weeping, and great wailing. |
Mark 5:39 | He goes in. "Why all this outcry and loud weeping?" He asks; "the child is asleep, not dead." | And entering in he says to them, Why do ye make a tumult and weep? the child has not died, but sleeps. | When he had entered in, he said to them, "Why do you make an uproar and weep? The child is not dead, but is asleep." |
Mark 5:40 | To this their reply is a scornful laugh. He, however, puts them all out, takes the child's father and mother and those He has brought with Him, and enters the room where the child lies. | And they derided him. But he, having put [them] all out, takes with [him] the father of the child, and the mother, and those that were with him, and enters in where the child was lying. | They laughed him to scorn. But he, having put them all out, took the father of the child and her mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was lying. |
Mark 5:41 | Then, taking her by the hand, He says to her, "Talitha, koum;" that is to say, "Little girl, I command you to wake!" | And having laid hold of the hand of the child, he says to her, Talitha koumi, which is, interpreted, Damsel, I say to thee, Arise. | Taking the child by the hand, he said to her, "Talitha cumi;" which means, being interpreted, "Young lady, I tell you, get up." |
Mark 5:42 | Instantly the little girl rises to her feet and begins to walk (for she was twelve years old). They were at once beside themselves with utter astonishment; | And immediately the damsel arose and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with great astonishment. | Immediately the young lady rose up, and walked, for she was twelve years old. They were amazed with great amazement. |
Mark 5:43 | but He gave strict injunctions that the matter should not be made known, and directed them to give her something to eat. | And he charged them much that no one should know this; and he desired that [something] should be given her to eat. | He charged them much that no one should know this. He commanded that something should be given to her to eat. |
