 The Weymouth New Testament Online Bible (WEY)The Darby Online Bible (DBY)The Young's Literal Translation Online Bible (YLT)
John 8:1but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.But Jesus went to the mount of Olives.And at dawn he came again to the temple,
John 8:2At break of day however He returned to the Temple, and there the people came to Him in crowds. He seated Himself;And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him; and he sat down and taught them.and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them;
John 8:3and was teaching them when the Scribes and the Pharisees brought to Him a woman who had been found committing adultery. They made her stand in the centre of the court, and they put the case to Him.And the scribes and the Pharisees bring [to him] a woman taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,and the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,
John 8:4"Rabbi," they said, "this woman has been found in the very act of committing adultery.they say to him, Teacher, this woman has been taken in the very act, committing adultery.they say to him, `Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime committing adultery,
John 8:5Now, in the Law, Moses has ordered us to stone such women to death. But what do you say?"Now in the law Moses has commanded us to stone such; thou therefore, what sayest thou?and in the law, Moses did command us that such be stoned; thou, therefore, what dost thou say?`
John 8:6They asked this in order to put Him to the test, so that they might have some charge to bring against Him. But Jesus leant forward and began to write with His finger on the ground.But this they said proving him, that they might have [something] to accuse him [of]. But Jesus, having stooped down, wrote with his finger on the ground.and this they said, trying him, that they might have to accuse him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger he was writing on the ground,
John 8:7When however they persisted with their question, He raised His head and said to them, "Let the sinless man among you be the first to throw a stone at her."But when they continued asking him, he lifted himself up and said to them, Let him that is without sin among you first cast the stone at her.and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, `The sinless of you let him first cast the stone at her;`
John 8:8Then He leant forward again, and again began to write on the ground.And again stooping down he wrote on the ground.and again having stooped down, he was writing on the ground,
John 8:9They listened to Him, and then, beginning with the eldest, took their departure, one by one, till all were gone. And Jesus was left behind alone and the woman in the centre of the court.But they, having heard [that], went out one by one beginning from the elder ones until the last; and Jesus was left alone and the woman standing there.and they having heard, and by the conscience being convicted, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
John 8:10Then, raising His head, Jesus said to her, "Where are they? Has no one condemned you?"And Jesus, lifting himself up and seeing no one but the woman, said to her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Has no one condemned thee?And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, `Woman, where are those thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?`
John 8:11"No one, Sir," she replied. "And *I* do not condemn you either," said Jesus; "go, and from this time do not sin any more."]And she said, No one, sir. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.and she said, `No one, Sir;` and Jesus said to her, `Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.`
John 8:12Once more Jesus addressed them. "I am the Light of the world," He said; "the man who follows me shall certainly not walk in the dark, but shall have the light of Life."Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, `I am the light of the world; he who is following me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the light of the life.`
John 8:13"You are giving testimony about yourself," said the Pharisees; "your testimony is not true."The Pharisees therefore said to him, Thou bearest witness concerning thyself; thy witness is not true.The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, `Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;`
John 8:14"Even if I am giving testimony about myself," replied Jesus, "my testimony is true; for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you know neither of these two things.Jesus answered and said to them, Even if I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is true, because I know whence I came and whither I go: but ye know not whence I come and whither I go.Jesus answered and said to them, `And if I testify of myself my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.
John 8:15You judge according to appearances: I am judging no one.Ye judge according to the flesh, I judge no one.`Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,
John 8:16And even if I do judge, my judgement is just; for I am not alone, but the Father who sent me is with me.And if also I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who has sent me.and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;
John 8:17In your own Law, too, it is written that the testimony of two men is true.And in your law too it is written that the testimony of two men is true:and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;
John 8:18I am one giving testimony about myself, and the Father who sent me gives testimony about me."I am [one] who bear witness concerning myself, and the Father who has sent me bears witness concerning me.I am [one] who is testifying of myself, and the Father who sent me doth testify of me.`
John 8:19"Where is your Father?" they asked. "You know my Father as little as you know me." He replied; "if you knew me, you would know my Father also."They said to him therefore, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me nor my Father. If ye had known me, ye would have known also my Father.They said, therefore, to him, `Where is thy father?` Jesus answered, `Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.`
John 8:20These sayings He uttered in the Treasury, while teaching in the Temple; yet no one arrested Him, because His time had not yet come.These words spoke he in the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no one took him, for his hour was not yet come.These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;
John 8:21Again He said to them, "I am going away. Then you will try to find me, but you will die in your sins. Where I am going, it is impossible for you to come."He said therefore again to them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin; where I go ye cannot come.therefore said Jesus again to them, `I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.`
John 8:22The Jews began to ask one another, "Is he going to kill himself, do you think, that he says, `Where I am going, it is impossible for you to come'?"The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he says, Where I go ye cannot come?The Jews, therefore, said, `Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?`
John 8:23"You," He continued, "are from below, I am from above: you are of this present world, I am not of this present world.And he said to them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above. Ye are of this world; I am not of this world.and he said to them, `Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world;
John 8:24That is why I told you that you will die in your sins; for, unless you believe that I am He, that is what will happen."I said therefore to you, that ye shall die in your sins; for unless ye shall believe that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.`
John 8:25"You who are you?" they asked. "How is it that I am speaking to you at all?" replied Jesus.They said therefore to him, Who art thou? [And] Jesus said to them, Altogether that which I also say to you.They said, therefore, to him, `Thou who art thou?` and Jesus said to them, `Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning;
John 8:26"Many things I have to speak and to judge concerning you. But He who sent me is true, and the things which I have heard from Him are those which I have come into the world to speak."I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but he that has sent me is true, and I, what I have heard from him, these things I say to the world.many things I have to speak concerning you and to judge, but He who sent me is true, and I what things I heard from Him these I say to the world.`
John 8:27They did not perceive that He was speaking to them of the Father.They knew not that he spoke to them of the Father.They knew not that of the Father he spake to them;
John 8:28So Jesus added, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He. Of myself I do nothing; but as the Father has taught me, so I speak.Jesus therefore said to them, When ye shall have lifted up the Son of man, then ye shall know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself, but as the Father has taught me I speak these things.Jesus, therefore, said to them, `When ye may lift up the Son of Man then ye will know that I am [he]; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak;
John 8:29And He who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone: for I do always what is pleasing to Him."And he that has sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, because I do always the things that are pleasing to him.and He who sent me is with me; the Father did not leave me alone, because I, the things pleasing to Him, do always.`
John 8:30As He thus spoke, many became believers in Him.As he spoke these things many believed on him.As he is speaking these things, many believed in him;
John 8:31Jesus therefore said to those of the Jews who had now believed in Him, "As for you, if you hold fast to my teaching, then you are truly my disciples;Jesus therefore said to the Jews who believed him, If ye abide in my word, ye are truly my disciples;Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, `If ye may remain in my word, truly my disciples ye are, and ye shall know the truth,
John 8:32and you shall know the Truth, and the Truth will make you free."and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.and the truth shall make you free.`
John 8:33"We are descendants of Abraham," they answered, "and have never at any time been in slavery to any one. What do those words of yours mean, `You shall become free'?"They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and have never been under bondage to any one; how sayest thou, Ye shall become free?They answered him, `Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say Ye shall become free?`
John 8:34"In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that every one who commits sin is the slave of sin.Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Every one that practises sin is the bondman of sin.Jesus answered them, `Verily, verily, I say to you Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,
John 8:35Now a slave does not remain permanently in his master's house, but a son does.Now the bondman abides not in the house for ever: the son abides for ever.and the servant doth not remain in the house to the age, the son doth remain to the age;
John 8:36If then the Son shall make you free, you will be free indeed.If therefore the Son shall set you free, ye shall be really free.if then the son may make you free, in reality ye shall be free.
John 8:37You are descendants of Abraham, I know; but you want to kill me, because my teaching gains no ground within you.I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word has no entrance in you.`I have known that ye are seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you;
John 8:38The words I speak are those I have learnt in the presence of the Father. Therefore you also should do what you have heard from your father."I speak what I have seen with my Father, and ye then do what ye have seen with your father.I that which I have seen with my Father do speak, and ye, therefore, that which ye have seen with your father ye do.`
John 8:39"Our father is Abraham," they said. "If you were Abraham's children," replied Jesus, "it is Abraham's deeds that you would be doing.They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus says to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham;They answered and said to him, `Our father is Abraham;` Jesus saith to them, `If children of Abraham ye were, the works of Abraham ye were doing;
John 8:40But, in fact, you are longing to kill me, a man who has spoken to you the truth which I have heard from God. Abraham did not do that.but now ye seek to kill me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, which I have heard from God: this did not Abraham.and now, ye seek to kill me a man who hath spoken to you the truth I heard from God; this Abraham did not;
John 8:41You are doing the deeds of your father." "We," they replied, "are not illegitimate children. We have one Father, namely God."Ye do the works of your father. They said [therefore] to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one father, God.ye do the works of your father.` They said, therefore, to him, `We of whoredom have not been born; one Father we have God;`
John 8:42"If God were your Father," said Jesus, "you would love me; for it is from God that I came and I am now here. I have not come of myself, but *He* sent me.Jesus said to them, If God were your father ye would have loved me, for I came forth from God and am come [from him]; for neither am I come of myself, but *he* has sent me.Jesus then said to them, `If God were your father, ye were loving me, for I came forth from God, and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but He sent me;
John 8:43How is it you do not understand me when I speak? It is because you cannot bear to listen to my words.Why do ye not know my speech? Because ye cannot hear my word.wherefore do ye not know my speech? because ye are not able to hear my word.
John 8:44The father whose sons you are is the Devil; and you desire to do what gives him pleasure. *He* was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand firm in the truth for there is no truth in him. Whenever he utters his lie, he utters it out of his own store; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.Ye are of the devil, as [your] father, and ye desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks falsehood, he speaks of what is his own; for he is a liar and its father:`Ye are of a father the devil, and the desires of your father ye will to do; he was a man-slayer from the beginning, and in the truth he hath not stood, because there is no truth in him; when one may speak the falsehood, of his own he speaketh, because he is a liar also his father.
John 8:45But because I speak the truth, you do not believe me.and because I speak the truth, ye do not believe me.`And because I say the truth, ye do not believe me.
John 8:46Which of *you* convicts me of sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe me?Which of you convinces me of sin? If I speak truth, why do ye not believe me?Who of you doth convict me of sin? and if I speak truth, wherefore do ye not believe me?
John 8:47He who is a child of God listens to God's words. You do not listen to them: and why? It is because you are not God's children."He that is of God hears the words of God: therefore ye hear [them] not, because ye are not of God.he who is of God, the sayings of God he doth hear; because of this ye do not hear, because of God ye are not.`
John 8:48"Are we not right," answered the Jews, "in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon?"The Jews answered and said to him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a demon?The Jews, therefore, answered and said to him, `Do we not say well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?`
John 8:49"I am not possessed by a demon," replied Jesus. "On the contrary I honour my Father, and you dishonour me.Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me.Jesus answered, `I have not a demon, but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me;
John 8:50I, however, am not aiming at glory for myself: there is One who aims at glory for me and who judges.But I do not seek my own glory: there is he that seeks and judges.and I do not seek my own glory; there is who is seeking and is judging;
John 8:51In most solemn truth I tell you that if any one shall have obeyed my teaching he shall in no case ever see death."Verily, verily, I say unto you, If any one shall keep my word, he shall never see death.verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may keep my word, death he may not see to the age.`
John 8:52"Now," exclaimed the Jews, "we know that you are possessed by a demon. Abraham died, and so did the Prophets, and yet *you* say, `If any one shall have obeyed my teaching, he shall in no case ever taste death.'The Jews therefore said to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham has died, and the prophets, and thou sayest, If any one keep my word, he shall never taste death.The Jews, therefore, said to him, `Now we have known that thou hast a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and thou dost say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death to the age!
John 8:53Are you really greater than our forefather Abraham? For he died. And the prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?"Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who has died? and the prophets have died: whom makest thou thyself?Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died; whom dost thou make thyself?`
John 8:54"Were I to glorify myself," answered Jesus, "I should have no real glory. There is One who glorifies me namely my Father, who you say is your God.Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who glorifies me, [of] whom ye say, He is our God.Jesus answered, `If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom ye say that He is your God;
John 8:55You do not know Him, but I know Him perfectly; and were I to deny my knowledge of Him, I should resemble you, and be a liar. On the contrary I do know Him, and I obey His commands.And ye know him not; but I know him; and if I said, I know him not, I should be like you, a liar. But I know him, and I keep his word.and ye have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep;
John 8:56Abraham your forefather exulted in the hope of seeing my day: and he saw it, and was glad."Your father Abraham exulted in that he should see my day, and he saw and rejoiced.Abraham, your father, was glad that he might see my day; and he saw, and did rejoice.`
John 8:57"You are not yet fifty years old," cried the Jews, "and have you seen Abraham?"The Jews therefore said to him, Thou hast not yet fifty years, and hast thou seen Abraham?The Jews, therefore, said unto him, `Thou art not yet fifty years old, and Abraham hast thou seen?`
John 8:58"In most solemn truth," answered Jesus, "I tell you that before Abraham came into existence, I am."Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.Jesus said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham`s coming I am;`
John 8:59Thereupon they took up stones with which to stone Him, but He hid Himself and went away out of the Temple.They took up therefore stones that they might cast [them] at him; but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, [going through the midst of them, and thus passed on.]they took up, therefore, stones that they may cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
