John 15:1 | "I am the Vine the True Vine, and my Father is the vine-dresser. | If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; as I also have kept my Father's commandments, and do abide in his love. | I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener. |
John 15:2 | Every branch in me if it bears no fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. | These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be filled. | He takes away every branch in me which has no fruit, and every branch which has fruit he makes clean, so that it may have more fruit. |
John 15:3 | Already you are cleansed through the teaching which I have given you. | This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. | You are clean, even now, through the teaching which I have given you. |
John 15:4 | Continue in me, and let me continue in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself that is, if it does not continue in the vine so neither can you if you do not continue in me. | Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends. | Be in me at all times as I am in you. As the branch is not able to give fruit of itself, if it is not still on the vine, so you are not able to do so if you are not in me. |
John 15:5 | I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who continues in me and in whom I continue bears abundant fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. | You are my friends, if you do the things that I command you. | I am the vine, you are the branches: he who is in me at all times as I am in him, gives much fruit, because without me you are able to do nothing. |
John 15:6 | If any one does not continue in me, he is like the unfruitful branch which is at once thrown away and then withers up. Such branches they gather up and throw into the fire and they are burned. | I will not now call you servants: for the servant knoweth not what his lord doth. But I have called you friends: because all things whatsoever I have heard of my Father, I have made known to you. | If a man does not keep himself in me, he becomes dead and is cut off like a dry branch; such branches are taken up and put in the fire and burned. |
John 15:7 | "If you continue in me and my sayings continue in you, ask what you will and it shall be done for you. | You have not chosen me: but I have chosen you; and have appointed you, that you should go, and should bring forth fruit; and your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. | If you are in me at all times, and my words are in you, then anything for which you make a request will be done for you. |
John 15:8 | By this is God glorified by your bearing abundant fruit and thus being true disciples of mine. | These things I command you, that you love one another. | Here is my Father's glory, in that you give much fruit and so are my true disciples. |
John 15:9 | As the Father has loved me, I have also loved you: continue in my love. | If the world hate you, know ye, that it hath hated me before you. | Even as the Father has given me his love, so I have given my love to you: be ever in my love. |
John 15:10 | If you obey my commands, you will continue in my love, as I have obeyed my Father's commands and continue in His love. | If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. | If you keep my laws, you will be ever in my love, even as I have kept my Father's laws, and am ever in his love. |
John 15:11 | "These things I have spoken to you in order that I may have joy in you, and that your joy may become perfect. | Remember my word that I said to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also. | I have said these things to you so that I may have joy in you and so that your joy may be complete. |
John 15:12 | This is my commandment to you, to love one another as I have loved you. | But all these things they will do to you for my name's sake: because they know not him who sent me. | This is the law I give you: Have love one for another, even as I have love for you. |
John 15:13 | No one has greater love than this a man laying down his life for his friends. | If I had not come, and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. | Greater love has no man than this, that a man gives up his life for his friends. |
John 15:14 | You are my friends, if you do what I command you. | He that hateth me, hateth my Father also. | You are my friends, if you do what I give you orders to do. |
John 15:15 | No longer do I call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, because all that I have heard from the Father I have made known to you. | If I had not done among them the works that no other man hath done, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father. | No longer do I give you the name of servants; because a servant is without knowledge of what his master is doing: I give you the name of friends, because I have given you knowledge of all the things which my Father has said to me. |
John 15:16 | It is not you who chose me, but it is I who chose you and appointed you that you might go and be fruitful and that your fruit might remain; so that whatever petition you present to the Father in my name He may give you. | But that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law: They hated me without cause. | You did not take me for yourselves, but I took you for myself; and I gave you the work of going about and producing fruit which will be for ever; so that whatever request you make to the Father in my name he may give it to you. |
John 15:17 | "Thus I command you to love one another. | But when the Paraclete cometh, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall give testimony of me. | So this is my law for you: Have love one for another. |
John 15:18 | If the world hates you, remember that it has first had me as the fixed object of its hatred. | And you shall give testimony, because you are with me from the beginning. | If you are hated by the world, keep in mind that I was hated by the world before you. |
John 15:19 | If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own property. But because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world for that reason the world hates you. | | If you were of the world, you would be loved by the world: but because you are not of the world, but I have taken you out of the world, you are hated by the world. |
John 15:20 | Bear in mind what I said to you, `A servant is not superior to his master.' If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. | | Keep in mind the words I said to you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they were cruel to me, they will be cruel to you; if they kept my words, they will keep yours. |
John 15:21 | But they will inflict all this suffering upon you on account of your bearing my name because they do not know Him who sent me. | | They will do all this to you because of my name because they have no knowledge of him who sent me. |
John 15:22 | "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have had no sin; but as the case stands they are without excuse for their sin. | | If I had not come and been their teacher they would have had no sin: but now they have no reason to give for their sin. |
John 15:23 | He who hates me hates my Father also. | | He who has hate for me has hate for my Father. |
John 15:24 | If I had not done among them, as I have, such miracles as no one else ever did, they would have had no sin; but they have in fact seen and also hated both me and my Father. | | If I had not done among them the works which no other man ever did, they would have had no sin: but now they have seen, and they have had hate in their hearts for me and my Father. |
John 15:25 | But this has been so, in order that the saying may be fulfilled which stands written in their Law, `They have hated me without any reason.' | | This comes about so that the writing in their law may be made true, Their hate for me was without cause. |
John 15:26 | "When the Advocate is come whom I will send to you from the Father's presence the Spirit of Truth who comes forth from the Father's presence He will be a witness concerning me. | | When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father even the Spirit of true knowledge who comes from the Father he will give witness about me; |
John 15:27 | And you also are witnesses, because you have been with me from the first. | | And you, in addition, will give witness because you have been with me from the first. |
