Luke 22:1Meanwhile the Festival of the Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching,Now the feast of unleavened bread, which is called the pasch, was at hand.Now the feast of unleavened bread was near, which is called the Passover.
Luke 22:2and the High Priests and the Scribes were contriving how to destroy Him. But they feared the people.And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put Jesus to death: but they feared the people.And the chief priests and the scribes were looking for a chance to put him to death, but they went in fear of the people.
Luke 22:3Satan, however, entered into Judas (the man called Iscariot) who was one of the Twelve.And Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariot, one of the twelve.And Satan came into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve.
Luke 22:4He went and conferred with the High Priests and Commanders as to how he should deliver Him up to them.And he went, and discoursed with the chief priests and the magistrates, how he might betray him to them.And he went away and had a discussion with the chief priests and the rulers, about how he might give him up to them.
Luke 22:5This gave them great pleasure, and they agreed to pay him.And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.And they were glad, and undertook to give him money.
Luke 22:6He accepted their offer, and then looked out for an opportunity to betray Him when the people were not there.And he promised. And he sought opportunity to betray him in the absence of the multitude.And he made an agreement with them to give him up to them, if he got a chance, when the people were not present.
Luke 22:7When the day of the Unleavened Bread came the day for the Passover lamb to be sacrificedAnd the day of the unleavened bread came, on which it was necessary that the pasch should be killed.And the day of unleavened bread came, when the Passover lamb is put to death.
Luke 22:8Jesus sent Peter and John with instructions. "Go," He said, "and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it."And he sent Peter and John, saying: Go, and prepare for us the pasch, that we may eat.And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make the Passover ready for us, so that we may take it.
Luke 22:9"Where shall we prepare it?" they asked.But they said: Where wilt thou that we prepare?And they said to him, Where are we to get it ready?
Luke 22:10"You will no sooner have entered the city," He replied, "than you will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water. Follow him into the house to which he goes,And he said to them: Behold, as you go into the city, there shall meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water: follow him into the house where he entereth in.And he said to them, When you go into the town you will see a man coming to you with a vessel of water; go after him into the house into which he goes.
Luke 22:11and say to the master of the house, "`The Rabbi asks you, Where is the room where I can eat the Passover with my disciples?'And you shall say to the goodman of the house: The master saith to thee, Where is the guest chamber, where I may eat the pasch with my disciples?And say to the master of the house, The Master says, Where is the guest-room, where I may take the Passover with my disciples?
Luke 22:12"And he will show you a large furnished room upstairs. There make your preparations."And he will shew you a large dining room, furnished; and there prepare.And he will take you up to a great room with a table and seats: there make ready.
Luke 22:13So they went and found all as He had told them; and they got the Passover ready.And they going, found as he had said to them, and made ready the pasch.And they went, and it was as he had said: and they made the Passover ready.
Luke 22:14When the time was come, and He had taken His place at table, and the Apostles with Him,And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.And when the time had come, he took his seat, and the Apostles with him.
Luke 22:15He said to them, "Earnestly have I longed to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;And he said to them: With desire I have desired to eat this pasch with you, before I suffer.And he said, I have had a great desire to keep this Passover with you before I come to my death;
Luke 22:16for I tell you that I certainly shall not eat one again till its full meaning has been brought out in the Kingdom of God."For I say to you, that from this time I will not eat it, till it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.For I say to you, I will not take it till it is made complete in the kingdom of God.
Luke 22:17Then, having received the cup and given thanks, He said, "Take this and share it among yourselves;And having taken the chalice, he gave thanks, and said: Take, and divide it among you:And he took a cup and, having given praise, he said, Make division of this among yourselves;
Luke 22:18for I tell you that from this time I will never drink the produce of the vine till the Kingdom of God has come."For I say to you, that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, till the kingdom of God come.For I say to you, I will not take of the fruit of the vine till the kingdom of God has come.
Luke 22:19Then, taking a Passover biscuit, He gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body which is being given on your behalf: this do in remembrance of me."And taking bread, he gave thanks, and brake; and gave to them, saying: This is my body, which is given for you. Do this for a commemoration of me.And he took bread and, having given praise, he gave it to them when it had been broken, saying, This is my body, which is given for you: do this in memory of me.
Luke 22:20He gave them the cup in like manner, when the meal was over. "This cup," He said, "is the new Covenant ratified by my blood which is to be poured out on your behalf.In like manner the chalice also, after he had supped, saying: This is the chalice, the new testament in my blood, which shall be shed for you.And in the same way, after the meal, he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new testament, made with my blood which is given for you.
Luke 22:21Yet the hand of him who is betraying me is at the table with me.But yet behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.But the hand of him who is false to me is with me at the table.
Luke 22:22For indeed the Son of Man goes on His way His pre-destined way; yet alas for that man who is betraying Him!"And the Son of man indeed goeth, according to that which is determined: but yet, woe to that man by whom he shall be betrayed.For it will be done to the Son of man after the purpose of God, but unhappy is that man by whom he is given up.
Luke 22:23Thereupon they began to discuss with one another which of them it could possibly be who was about to do this.And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.And they were wondering among themselves which of them it was who would do this thing.
Luke 22:24There arose also a dispute among them which of them should be regarded as greatest.And there was also a strife amongst them, which of them should seem to be the greater.And there was an argument among them about which of them was the greatest.
Luke 22:25But He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles are their masters, and those who exercise authority over them are called Benefactors.And he said to them: The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and they that have power over them, are called beneficent.And he said, The kings of the Gentiles are lords over them, and those who have authority are given names of honour.
Luke 22:26With you it is not so; but let the greatest among you be as the younger, and the leader be like him who serves.But you not so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is the leader, as he that serveth.But let it not be so with you; but he who is greater, let him become like the younger; and he who is chief, like a servant.
Luke 22:27For which is the greater he who sits at table, or he who waits on him? Is it not he who sits at table? But my position among you is that of one who waits on others.For which is greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serveth? Is it not he that sitteth at table? But I am in the midst of you, as he that serveth:For which is greater, the guest who is seated at a meal or the servant who is waiting on him? is it not the guest? but I am among you as a servant.
Luke 22:28You however have remained with me amid my trials;And you are they who have continued with me in my temptations:But you are those who have kept with me through my troubles;
Luke 22:29and I covenant to give you, as my Father has covenanted to give me, a KingdomAnd I dispose to you, as my Father hath disposed to me, a kingdom;And I will give you a kingdom as my Father has given one to me,
Luke 22:30so that you shall eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom, and sit on thrones as judges over the twelve tribes of Israel.That you may eat and drink at my table, in my kingdom: and may sit upon thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.So that you may take food and drink at my table in my kingdom, and be seated like kings, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Luke 22:31"Simon, Simon, I tell you that Satan has obtained permission to have all of you to sift as wheat is sifted.And the Lord said: Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:Simon, Simon, Satan has made a request to have you, so that he may put you to the test as grain is tested:
Luke 22:32But *I* have prayed for *you* that your faith may not fail, and you, when at last you have come back to your true self, must strengthen your brethren."But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and thou, being once converted, confirm thy brethren.But I have made prayer for you, that your faith may not go from you: and when you are turned again, make your brothers strong.
Luke 22:33"Master," replied Peter, "with you I am ready to go both to prison and to death."Who said to him: Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.And he said to him, Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.
Luke 22:34"I tell you, Peter," said Jesus, "that the cock will not crow to-day till you have three times denied that you know me."And he said: I say to thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, till thou thrice deniest that thou knowest me. And he said to them:And he said, I say to you, Peter, before the cock's second cry today, you will say three times that you have no knowledge of me.
Luke 22:35Then He asked them, "When I sent you out without purse or bag or shoes, was there anything you needed?" "No, nothing," they replied.When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, did you want anything?And he said to them, When I sent you out without money or bag or shoes, were you in need of anything? And they said, Nothing.
Luke 22:36"But now," said He, "let the one who has a purse take it, and he who has a bag must do the same. And let him who has no sword sell his outer garment and buy one.But they said: Nothing. Then said he unto them: But now he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a scrip; and he that hath not, let him sell his coat, and buy a sword.And he said to them, But now, he who has a money-bag, or a bag for food, let him take it: and he who has not, let him give his coat for money and get a sword.
Luke 22:37For I tell you that those words of Scripture must yet find their fulfilment in me: `And He was reckoned among the lawless'; for indeed that saying about me has its accomplishment."For I say to you, that this that is written must yet be fulfilled in me: And with the wicked was he reckoned. For the things concerning me have an end.For I say to you that these words will be put into effect in me, And he was numbered among the evil-doers: for what has been said in the Writings about me has an end.
Luke 22:38"Master, here are two swords," they exclaimed. "That is enough," He replied.But they said: Lord, behold here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.And they said, Lord, here are two swords. And he said, It is enough.
Luke 22:39On going out, He proceeded as usual to the Mount of Olives, and His disciples followed Him.And going out, he went, according to his custom, to the mount of Olives. And his disciples also followed him.And he came out, and went, as his way was, to the Mountain of Olives, and the disciples went with him.
Luke 22:40But when He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not come into temptation."And when he was come to the place, he said to them: Pray, lest ye enter into temptation.And when he came to the place, he said to them, Make a prayer that you may not be put to the test.
Luke 22:41But He Himself withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed repeatedly, saying,And he was withdrawn away from them a stone's cast; and kneeling down, he prayed,And he went a little distance away from them and, falling on his knees in prayer, he said,
Luke 22:42"Father, if it be Thy will, take this cup away from me; yet not my will but Thine be done!"Saying: Father, if thou wilt, remove this chalice from me: but yet not my will, but thine be done.Father, if it is your pleasure, take this cup from me: but still, let your pleasure, not mine, be done.
Luke 22:43And there appeared to Him an angel from Heaven, strengthening Him;And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony, he prayed the longer.And an angel from heaven came to him, to give him strength.
Luke 22:44while He an agony of distress having come upon Him prayed all the more with intense earnestness, and His sweat became like clots of blood dropping on the ground.And his sweat became as drops of blood, trickling down upon the ground.And being in great trouble of soul, the force of his prayer became stronger, and great drops, like blood, came from him, falling to the earth.
Luke 22:45When He rose from his prayer and came to His disciples, He found them sleeping for sorrow.And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow.And, getting up from prayer, he came to the disciples, and saw that they were sleeping for sorrow.
Luke 22:46"Why are you sleeping?" He said; "stand up; and pray that you may not come into temptation."And he said to them: Why sleep you? arise, pray, lest you enter into temptation.And he said, Why are you sleeping? Get up, and give yourselves to prayer, so that you may not be put to the test.
Luke 22:47While He was still speaking there came a crowd with Judas, already mentioned as one of the Twelve, at their head. He went up to Jesus to kiss Him.As he was yet speaking, behold a multitude; and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near to Jesus, for to kiss him.And while he was saying these words, there came a band of people, and Judas, one of the twelve, was in front of them, and he came near to Jesus to give him a kiss.
Luke 22:48"Judas," said Jesus, "are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"And Jesus said to him: Judas, dost thou betray the Son of man with a kiss?But Jesus said to him, Judas, will you be false to the Son of man with a kiss?
Luke 22:49Those who were about Him, seeing what was likely to happen, asked Him, "Master, shall we strike with the sword?"And they that were about him, seeing what would follow, said to him: Lord, shall we strike with the sword?And when those who were with him saw what was coming, they said, Lord, may we not make use of our swords?
Luke 22:50And one of them struck a blow at the High Priest's servant and cut off his right ear.And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.And one of them gave a blow to the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
Luke 22:51"Permit me thus far," said Jesus. And He touched the ear and healed it.But Jesus answering, said: Suffer ye thus far. And when he had touched his ear, he healed him.But Jesus, answering, said, Put up with this, at least. And touching his ear, he made it well.
Luke 22:52Then Jesus said to the High Priests and Commanders of the Temple and Elders, who had come to arrest Him, "Have you come out as if to fight with a robber, with swords and cudgels?And Jesus said to the chief priests, and magistrates of the temple, and the ancients, that were come unto him: Are ye come out, as it were against a thief, with swords and clubs?And Jesus said to the chief priests and the captains of the Temple and the rulers, who had come against him, Have you come out as against a thief, with swords and sticks?
Luke 22:53While day after day I was with you in the Temple, you did not lay hands upon me; but to you belongs this hour and the power of darkness."When I was daily with you in the temple, you did not stretch forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.When I was in the Temple with you every day, your hands were not stretched out against me: but this is your hour, and the authority of the dark power.
Luke 22:54And they arrested Him and led Him away, and brought Him to the High Priest's house, while Peter followed a good way behind.And apprehending him, they led him to the high priest's house. But Peter followed afar off.And they made him a prisoner and took him away to the house of the high priest. But Peter went after them at a distance.
Luke 22:55And when they had lighted a fire in the middle of the court and had seated themselves in a group round it, Peter was sitting among them,And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were sitting about it, Peter was in the midst of them.And a fire was lighted in the middle of the open square, and they were seated together, and Peter was among them.
Luke 22:56when a maidservant saw him sitting by the fire, and, looking fixedly at him, she said, "This man also was with him."Whom when a certain servant maid had seen sitting at the light, and had earnestly beheld him, she said: This man also was with him.And a certain woman-servant, seeing him in the light of the fire, and looking at him with attention, said, This man was with him.
Luke 22:57But he denied it, and declared, "Woman, I do not know him."But he denied him, saying: Woman, I know him not.But he said, Woman, it is not true; I have no knowledge of him.
Luke 22:58Shortly afterwards a man saw him and said, "You, too, are one of them." "No, man, I am not," said Peter.And after a little while, another seeing him, said: Thou also art one of them. But Peter said: O man, I am not.And after a little time, another saw him and said, You are one of them; and he said, Man, I am not.
Luke 22:59After an interval of about an hour some one else stoutly maintained: "Certainly this fellow also was with him, for in fact he is a Galilaean."And after the space, as it were of one hour, another certain man affirmed, saying: Of a truth, this man was also with him; for he is also a Galilean.And after about an hour, another man said, with decision, Certainly this man was with him, for he is a Galilaean.
Luke 22:60"Man, I don't know what you mean," replied Peter. No sooner had he spoken than a cock crowed.And Peter said: Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, as he was yet speaking, the cock crew.And Peter said, Man, I have no knowledge of these things of which you are talking. And straight away, while he was saying these words, there came the cry of a cock.
Luke 22:61The Master turned and looked on Peter; and Peter recollected the Master's words, how He had said to him, "This very day, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times."And the Lord turning looked on Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, as he had said: Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.And the Lord, turning, gave Peter a look. And the words of the Lord came to Peter's mind, how he had said, This night, before the hour of the cock's cry, you will be false to me three times.
Luke 22:62And he went out and wept aloud bitterly.And Peter going out, wept bitterly.And he went out, weeping bitterly.
Luke 22:63Meanwhile the men who held Jesus in custody repeatedly beat Him in cruel sport,And the men that held him, mocked him, and struck him.And the men in whose hands Jesus was, made sport of him and gave him blows.
Luke 22:64or blindfolded Him, and then challenged Him. "Prove to us," they said, "that you are a prophet, by telling us who it was that struck you."And they blindfolded him, and smote his face. And they asked him, saying: Prophesy, who is it that struck thee?And, covering his eyes, they said to him, Are you prophet enough to say who gave you that blow?
Luke 22:65And they said many other insulting things to Him.And blaspheming, many other things they said against him.And they said a number of other evil things against him.
Luke 22:66As soon as it was day, the whole body of the Elders, both High Priests and Scribes, assembled. Then He was brought into their Sanhedrin, and they asked Him,And as soon as it was day, the ancients of the people, and the chief priests and scribes, cane together; and they brought him into their council, saying: If thou be the Christ, tell us.And when it was day, the rulers of the people came together, with the chief priests and the scribes, and they took him before their Sanhedrin, saying,
Luke 22:67"Are you the Christ? Tell us." "If I tell you," He replied, "you will certainly not believe;And he saith to them: If I shall tell you, you will not believe me.If you are the Christ, say so. But he said, If I say so you will not have belief;
Luke 22:68and if I ask you questions, you will certainly not answer.And if I shall also ask you, you will not answer me, nor let me go.And if I put a question to you, you will not give an answer.
Luke 22:69But from this time forward the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of God's omnipotence."But hereafter the Son of man shall be sitting on the right hand of the power of God.But in the future the Son of man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.
Luke 22:70Thereupon they cried out with one voice, "You, then, are the Son of God?" "It is as you say," He answered; "I am He."Then said they all: Art thou then the Son of God? Who said: You say that I am.And they all said, Are you then the Son of God? and he said, You say that I am.
Luke 22:71"What need have we of further evidence?" they said; "for we ourselves have heard it from his own lips."And they said: What need we any further testimony? for we ourselves have heard it from his own mouth.And they said, What more need have we of witness? we have the very words of his mouth.
