Galatians 5:1 | Christ having made us gloriously free stand fast and do not again be hampered with the yoke of slavery. | Stand fast, and be not held again under the yoke of bondage. | Christ has set us free in freedom; stand fast therefore, and be not held again in a yoke of bondage. |
Galatians 5:2 | Remember that it is I Paul who tell you that if you receive circumcision Christ will avail you nothing. | Behold, I Paul tell you, that if you be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. | Behold, I, Paul, say to you, that if ye are circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. |
Galatians 5:3 | I once more protest to every man who receives circumcision that he is under obligation to obey the whole Law of Moses. | And I testify again to every man circumcising himself, that he is a debtor to the whole law. | And I witness again to every man [who is] circumcised, that he is debtor to do the whole law. |
Galatians 5:4 | Christ has become nothing to any of you who are seeking acceptance with God through the Law: you have fallen away from grace. | You are made void of Christ, you who are justified in the law: you are fallen from grace. | Ye are deprived of all profit from the Christ as separated [from him], as many as are justified by law; ye have fallen from grace. |
Galatians 5:5 | *We* have not, for through the Spirit we wait with longing hope for an acceptance with God which is to come through faith. | For we in spirit, by faith, wait for the hope of justice. | For we, by [the] Spirit, on the principle of faith, await the hope of righteousness. |
Galatians 5:6 | For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any importance; but only faith working through love. | For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision: but faith that worketh by charity. | For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision has any force, nor uncircumcision; but faith working through love. |
Galatians 5:7 | You were running the race nobly! Who has interfered and caused you to swerve from the truth? | You did run well, who hath hindered you, that you should not obey the truth? | Ye ran well; who has stopped you that ye should not obey the truth? |
Galatians 5:8 | No such teaching ever proceeded from Him who is calling you. | This persuasion is not from him that calleth you. | The persuasibleness [is] not of him that calls you. |
Galatians 5:9 | A little yeast corrupts the whole of the dough. | A little leaven corrupteth the whole lump. | A little leaven leavens the whole lump. |
Galatians 5:10 | For my part I have strong confidence in you in the Lord that you will adopt my view of the matter. But the man be he who he may who is troubling you, will have to bear the full weight of the judgement to be pronounced on him. | I have confidence in you in the Lord: that you will not be of another mind: but he that troubleth you, shall bear the judgment, whosoever he be. | *I* have confidence as to you in [the] Lord, that ye will have no other mind; and he that is troubling you shall bear the guilt [of it], whosoever he may be. |
Galatians 5:11 | As for me, brethren, if I am still a preacher of circumcision, how is it that I am still suffering persecution? In that case the Cross has ceased to be a stumbling-block! | And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? Then is the scandal of the cross made void. | But *I*, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why am I yet persecuted? Then the scandal of the cross has been done away. |
Galatians 5:12 | Would to God that those who are unsettling your faith would even mutilate themselves. | I would they were even cut off, who trouble you. | I would that they would even cut themselves off who throw you into confusion. |
Galatians 5:13 | You however, brethren, were called to freedom. Only do not turn your freedom into an excuse for giving way to your lower natures; but become bondservants to one another in a spirit of love. | For you, brethren, have been called unto liberty: only make not liberty an occasion to the flesh, but by charity of the spirit serve one another. | For *ye* have been called to liberty, brethren; only [do] not [turn] liberty into an opportunity to the flesh, but by love serve one another. |
Galatians 5:14 | For the entire Law has been obeyed when you have kept the single precept, which says, "You are to love your fellow man equally with yourself." | For all the law is fulfilled in one word: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. | For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself; |
Galatians 5:15 | But if you are perpetually snarling and snapping at one another, beware lest you are destroyed by one another. | But if you bite and devour one another; take heed you be not consumed one of another. | but if ye bite and devour one another, see that ye are not consumed one of another. |
Galatians 5:16 | This then is what I mean. Let your lives be guided by the Spirit, and then you will certainly not indulge the cravings of your lower natures. | I say then, walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lusts of the flesh. | But I say, Walk in [the] Spirit, and ye shall no way fulfil flesh's lust. |
Galatians 5:17 | For the cravings of the lower nature are opposed to those of the Spirit, and the cravings of the Spirit are opposed to those of the lower nature; because these are antagonistic to each other, so that you cannot do everything to which you are inclined. | For the flesh lusteth against the spirit: and the spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary one to another: so that you do not the things that you would. | For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these things are opposed one to the other, that ye should not do those things which ye desire; |
Galatians 5:18 | But if the Spirit is leading you, you are not subject to Law. | But if you are led by the spirit, you are not under the law. | but if ye are led by the Spirit, ye are not under law. |
Galatians 5:19 | Now you know full well the doings of our lower natures. Fornication, impurity, indecency, idol-worship, sorcery; | Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury, | Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness, |
Galatians 5:20 | enmity, strife, jealousy, outbursts of passion, intrigues, dissensions, factions, envyings; | Idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels, dissensions, sects, | idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strifes, jealousies, angers, contentions, disputes, schools of opinion, |
Galatians 5:21 | hard drinking, riotous feasting, and the like. And as to these I forewarn you, as I have already forewarned you, that those who are guilty of such things will have no share in the Kingdom of God. | Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God. | envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revels, and things like these; as to which I tell you beforehand, even as I also have said before, that they who do such things shall not inherit God's kingdom. |
Galatians 5:22 | The Spirit, on the other hand, brings a harvest of love, joy, peace; patience towards others, kindness, benevolence; | But the fruit of the Spirit is, charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, longanimity, | But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, fidelity, |
Galatians 5:23 | good faith, meekness, self-restraint. | Mildness, faith, modesty, continency, chastity. Against such there is no law. | meekness, self-control: against such things there is no law. |
Galatians 5:24 | Against such things as these there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their lower nature with its passions and appetites. | And they that are Christ's, have crucified their flesh, with the vices and concupiscences. | But they that [are] of the Christ have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts. |
Galatians 5:25 | If we are living by the Spirit's power, let our conduct also be governed by the Spirit's power. | If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. | If we live by the Spirit, let us walk also by the Spirit. |
Galatians 5:26 | Let us not become vain-glorious, challenging one another, envying one another. | Let us not be made desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying on another. | Let us not become vain-glorious, provoking one another, envying one another. |
