Matthew 13:1That same day Jesus had left the house and was sitting on the shore of the Lake,The same day Jesus going out of the house, sat by the sea side.The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.
Matthew 13:2when a vast multitude of people crowded round Him. He therefore went on board a boat and sat there, while all the people stood on the shore.And great multitudes were gathered unto him, so that he went up into a boat and sat: and all the multitude stood on the shore.And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.
Matthew 13:3He then spoke many things to them in figurative language. "The sower goes out," He said, "to sow.And he spoke to them many things in parables, saying: Behold the sower went forth to sow.And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
Matthew 13:4As he sows, some of the seed falls by the way-side, and the birds come and peck it up.And whilst he soweth some fell by the way side, and the birds of the air came and ate them up.And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
Matthew 13:5Some falls on rocky ground, where it has but scanty soil. It quickly shows itself above ground, because it has no depth of earth;And other some fell upon stony ground, where they had not much earth: and they sprung up immediately, because they had no deepness of earth.Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
Matthew 13:6but when the sun is risen, it is scorched by the heat, and through having no root it withers up.And when the sun was up they were scorched: and because they had not root, they withered away.And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
Matthew 13:7Some falls among the thorns; but the thorns spring up and stifle it.And others fell among thorns: and the thorns grew up and choked them.And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
Matthew 13:8But a portion falls upon good ground, and gives a return, some a hundred for one, some sixty, some thirty.And others fell upon good ground: and they brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold.But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
Matthew 13:9Listen, every one who has ears!"He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 13:10(And His disciples came and asked Him, "Why do you speak to them in figurative language?"And his disciples came and said to him: Why speakest thou to them in parables?And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
Matthew 13:11"Because," He replied, "while to you it is granted to know the secrets of the Kingdom of the Heavens, to them it is not.Who answered and said to them: Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven: but to them it is not given.He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
Matthew 13:12For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but whoever has not, from him even what he has shall be taken away.For he that hath, to him shall be given, and he shall abound: but he that hath not, from him shall be taken away that also which he hath.For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
Matthew 13:13I speak to them in figurative language for this reason, that while looking they do not see, and while hearing they neither hear nor understand.Therefore do I speak to them in parables: because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
Matthew 13:14And in regard to them the prophecy of Isaiah is receiving signal fulfilment: "`You will hear and hear and by no means understand, and you will look and look and by no means see.And the prophecy of Isaias is fulfilled in them, who saith: By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand: and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive.And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
Matthew 13:15For this people's mind is stupefied, their hearing has become dull, and their eyes they have closed; to prevent their ever seeing with their eyes, or hearing with their ears, or understanding with their minds, and turning back, so that I might heal them.'For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears they have been dull of hearing, and their eyes they have shut: lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Matthew 13:16"But as for you, blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear.But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
Matthew 13:17For I solemnly tell you that many Prophets and holy men have longed to see the sights you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the words you hear, and have not heard them.For, amen, I say to you, many prophets and just men have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the things that you hear and have not heard them.For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
Matthew 13:18"To you then I will explain the parable of the Sower.Hear you therefore the parable of the sower.Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
Matthew 13:19When a man hears the Message concerning the Kingdom and does not understand it, the Evil one comes and catches away what has been sown in his heart. This is he who has received the seed by the road-side.When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, there cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart: this is he that received the seed by the way side.When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
Matthew 13:20He who has received the seed on the rocky ground is the man who hears the Message and immediately receives it with joy.And he that received the seed upon stony ground, is he that heareth the word, and immediately receiveth it with joy.But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
Matthew 13:21It has struck no root, however, within him. He continues for a time, but when suffering comes, or persecution, because of the Message, he at once stumbles and falls.Yet hath he not root in himself, but is only for a time: and when there ariseth tribulation and persecution because of the word, he is presently scandalized.Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
Matthew 13:22He who has received the seed among the thorns is the man who hears the Message, but the cares of the present age and the delusions of riches quite stifle the Message, and it becomes unfruitful.And he that received the seed among thorns, is he that heareth the word, and the care of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choketh up the word, and he becometh fruitless.He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Matthew 13:23But he who has received the seed on good ground is he who hears and understands. Such hearers give a return, and yield one a hundred for one, another sixty, another thirty.")But he that received the seed upon good ground, is he that heareth the word, and understandeth, and beareth fruit, and yieldeth the one an hundredfold, and another sixty, and another thirty.But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Matthew 13:24Another parable He put before them. "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "may be compared to a man who has sown good seed in his field,Another parable he proposed to them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man that sowed good seeds in his field.Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
Matthew 13:25but during the night his enemy comes, and over the first seed he sows darnel among the wheat, and goes away.But while men were asleep, his enemy came and oversowed cockle among the wheat and went his way.But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
Matthew 13:26But when the blade shoots up and the grain is formed, then appears the darnel also.And when the blade was sprung up, and had brought forth fruit, then appeared also the cockle.But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
Matthew 13:27"So the farmer's men come and ask him, "`Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed on your land? Where then does the darnel come from?'And the servants of the goodman of the house coming said to him: Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it cockle?So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
Matthew 13:28"`Some enemy has done this,' he said. "`Shall we go, and collect it?' the men inquire.And he said to them: An enemy hath done this. And the servants said to him: Wilt thou that we go and gather it up?He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
Matthew 13:29"`No,' he replied, `for fear that while collecting the darnel you should at the same time root up the wheat with it.And he said: No, lest perhaps gathering up the cockle, you root up the wheat also together with it.But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
Matthew 13:30Leave both to grow together until the harvest, and at harvest-time I will direct the reapers, Collect the darnel first, and make it up into bundles to burn it, but bring all the wheat into my barn.'"Suffer both to grow until the harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather up first the cockle, and bind it into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather ye into my barn.Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
Matthew 13:31Another parable He put before them. "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "is like a mustard-seed, which a man takes and sows in his ground.Another parable he proposed unto them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:
Matthew 13:32It is the smallest of all seeds, and yet when full-grown it is larger than any herb and forms a tree, so that the birds come and build in its branches."Which is the least indeed of all seeds; but when it is grown up, it is greater than all herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come, and dwell in the branches thereof.Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.
Matthew 13:33Another parable He spoke to them. "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "is like yeast which a woman takes and buries in a bushel of flour, for it to work there till the whole mass has risen."Another parable he spoke to them: The kingdom of heaven is like to leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened.Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
Matthew 13:34All this Jesus spoke to the people in figurative language, and except in figurative language He spoke nothing to them,All these things Jesus spoke in parables to the multitudes: and without parables he did not speak to them.All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:
Matthew 13:35in fulfilment of the saying of the Prophet, "I will open my mouth in figurative language, I will utter things kept hidden since the creation of all things."That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
Matthew 13:36When He had dismissed the people and had returned to the house, His disciples came to Him with the request, "Explain to us the parable of the darnel sown in the field."Then having sent away the multitudes, he came into the house, and his disciples came to him, saying: Expound to us the parable of the cockle of the field.Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
Matthew 13:37"The sower of the good seed," He replied, "is the Son of Man;Who made answer and said to them: He that soweth the good seed, is the Son of man.He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
Matthew 13:38the field is the world; the good seed these are the sons of the Kingdom; the darnel, the sons of the Evil one.And the field, is the world. And the good seed are the children of the kingdom. And the cockle, are the children of the wicked one.The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
Matthew 13:39The enemy who sows the darnel is *the Devil*; the harvest is the Close of the Age; the reapers are the angels.And the enemy that sowed them, is the devil. But the harvest is the end of the world. And the reapers are the angels.The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
Matthew 13:40As then the darnel is collected together and burnt up with fire, so will it be at the Close of the Age.Even as cockle therefore is gathered up, and burnt with fire: so shall it be at the end of the world.As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
Matthew 13:41The Son of Man will commission His angels, and they will gather out of His Kingdom all causes of sin and all who violate His laws;The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all scandals, and them that work iniquity.The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
Matthew 13:42and these they will throw into the fiery furnace. There will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth.And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:43Then will the righteous shine out like the sun in their Father's Kingdom. Listen, every one who has ears!Then shall the just shine as the sun, in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Matthew 13:44"The Kingdom of the Heavens is like treasure buried in the open country, which a man finds, but buries again, and, in his joy about it, goes and sells all he has and buys that piece of ground.The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. Which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Matthew 13:45"Again the Kingdom of the Heavens is like a jewel merchant who is in quest of choice pearls.Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a merchant seeking good pearls.Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Matthew 13:46He finds one most costly pearl; he goes away; and though it costs all he has, he buys it.Who when he had found one pearl of great price, went his way, and sold all that he had, and bought it.Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
Matthew 13:47"Again the Kingdom of the Heavens is like a draw-net let down into the sea, which encloses fish of all sorts.Again the kingdom of heaven is like to a net cast into the sea, and gathering together of all kind of fishes.Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
Matthew 13:48When full, they haul it up on the beach, and sit down and collect the good fish in baskets, while the worthless they throw away.Which, when it was filled, they drew out, and sitting by the shore, they chose out the good into vessels, but the bad they cast forth.Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
Matthew 13:49So will it be at the Close of the Age. The angels will go forth and separate the wicked from among the righteous,So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just.So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,
Matthew 13:50and will throw them into the fiery furnace. There will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth."And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:51"Have you understood all this?" He asked. "Yes," they said.Have ye understood all these things? They say to him: Yes.Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.
Matthew 13:52"Therefore," He said, "remember that every Scribe well trained for the Kingdom of the Heavens is like a householder who brings out of his storehouse new things and old."He said unto them: Therefore every scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven, is like to a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure new things and old.Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.
Matthew 13:53Jesus concluded this series of parables and then departed.And it came to pass: when Jesus had finished these parables, he passed from thence.And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.
Matthew 13:54And He came into His own country and proceeded to teach in their synagogue, so that they were filled with astonishment and exclaimed, "Where did he obtain such wisdom, and these wondrous powers?And coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogues, so that they wondered and said: How came this man by this wisdom and miracles?And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
Matthew 13:55Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers, James, Joseph, Simon and Judah?Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Jude:Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
Matthew 13:56And his sisters are they not all living here among us? Where then did he get all this?"And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence therefore hath he all these things?And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
Matthew 13:57So they turned angrily away from Him. But Jesus said to them, "There is no prophet left without honour except in his own country and among his own family."And they were scandalized in his regard. But Jesus said to them: A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
Matthew 13:58And He performed but few mighty deeds there because of their want of faith.And he wrought not many miracles there, because of their unbelief.And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
