Mark 8:1About that time there was again an immense crowd, and they found themselves with nothing to eat. So He called His disciples to Him.In those days again, when there was a great multitude, and had nothing to eat; calling his disciples together, he saith to them:In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to himself, and said to them,
Mark 8:2"My heart yearns over the people," He said; "for this is now the third day they have remained with me, and they have nothing to eat.I have compassion on the multitude, for behold they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat."I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat.
Mark 8:3If I were to send them home hungry, they would faint on the way, some of them having come a great distance."And if I shall send them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way; for some of them came from afar off.If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come a long way."
Mark 8:4"Where can we possibly get bread here in this remote place to satisfy such a crowd?" answered His disciples. And his disciples answered him: From whence can any one fill them here with bread in the wilderness? His disciples answered him, "From where will one be able to fill these men with bread here in a desert place?"
Mark 8:5"How many loaves have you?" He asked. "Seven," they said. And he asked them: How many loaves have ye? Who said: Seven. He asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven."
Mark 8:6So He passed the word to the people to sit down on the ground. Then taking the seven loaves He blessed them, and broke them into portions and proceeded to give them to His disciples for them to distribute, and they distributed them to the people. And taking the seven loaves, giving thanks, he broke, and gave to his disciples for to set before them; and they set them before the people. He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves. Having given thanks, he broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve, and they served the multitude.
Mark 8:7They had also a few small fish. He blessed them, and He told His disciples to distribute these also. And they had a few little fishes; and he blessed them, and commanded them to be set before them. They had a few small fish. Having blessed them, he said to serve these also.
Mark 8:8So the people ate an abundant meal; and what remained over they picked up and carried away seven hampers of broken pieces. And they did eat and were filled; and they took up that which was left of the fragments, seven baskets. They ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets of broken pieces that were left over.
Mark 8:9The number fed were about 4,000. Then He sent them away,And they that had eaten were about four thousand; and he sent them away. Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then he sent them away.
Mark 8:10and at once going on board with His disciples He came into the district of Dalmanutha. And immediately going up into a ship with his disciples, he came into the parts of Dalmanutha.Immediately he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the region of Dalmanutha.
Mark 8:11The Pharisees followed Him and began to dispute with Him, asking Him for a sign in the sky, to make trial of Him.And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, asking him a sign from heaven, tempting him.The Pharisees came out and began to question him, seeking a sign from heaven from him, and tempting him.
Mark 8:12Heaving a deep and troubled sigh, He said, "Why do the men of to-day ask for a sign? In solemn truth I tell you that no sign will be given to the men of to-day."And sighing deeply in spirit, he saith: Why doth this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, a sign shall not be given to this generation. He sighed deeply in his spirit, and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Most assuredly I tell you, there will no sign be given to this generation."
Mark 8:13So He left them, went on board again, and came away to the other side. And leaving them, he went up again into the ship, and passed to the other side of the water. He left them, and again entering into the boat, departed to the other side.
Mark 8:14Now they had forgotten to take bread, nor had they more than a single loaf with them in the boat; And they forgot to take bread; and they had but one loaf with them in the ship. They forgot to take bread; and they didn't have more than one loaf in the boat with them.
Mark 8:15and when He admonished them, "See to it, be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod,"And he charged them, saying: Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. He charged them, saying, "Take heed: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod."
Mark 8:16they explained His words to one another by saying, "We have no bread!"And they reasoned among themselves, saying: Because we have no bread. They reasoned with one another, saying, "It's because we have no bread."
Mark 8:17He perceived what they were saying, and He said to them, "What is this discussion of yours about having no bread? Do you not yet see and understand? Are your minds so dull of comprehension?Which Jesus knowing, saith to them: Why do you reason, because you have no bread? do you not yet know nor understand? have you still your heart blinded?Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, "Why do you reason that it's because you have no bread? Don't you perceive yet, neither understand? Is your heart still hardened?
Mark 8:18You have eyes! can you not see? You have ears! can you not hear? and have you no memory?Having eyes, see you not? and having ears, hear you not? neither do you remember.Having eyes, don't you see? Having ears, don't you hear? Don't you remember?
Mark 8:19When I broke up the five loaves for the 5,000 men, how many baskets did you carry away full of broken portions?" "Twelve," they said. When I broke the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took you up? They say to him, Twelve. When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?" They told him, "Twelve."
Mark 8:20"And when the seven for the 4,000, how many hampers full of portions did you take away?" "Seven," they answered. When also the seven loaves among four thousand, how many baskets of fragments took you up? And they say to him, Seven."When the seven loaves fed the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?" They told him, "Seven."
Mark 8:21"Do you not yet understand?" He said. And he said to them: How do you not yet understand? He asked them, "Don't you understand, yet?"
Mark 8:22And they came to Bethsaida. And a blind man was brought to Jesus and they entreated Him to touch him.And they came to Bethsaida; and they bring to him a blind man, and they besought him that he would touch him.He came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him, and begged him to touch him.
Mark 8:23So He took the blind man by the arm and brought him out of the village, and spitting into his eyes He put His hands on him and asked him, "Can you see anything?"And taking the blind man by the hand, he led him out of the town; and spitting upon his eyes, laying his hands on him, he asked him if he saw any thing. He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village. When he had spit on his eyes, and laid his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.
Mark 8:24He looked up and said, "I can see the people: I see them like trees only walking."And looking up, he said: I see men as it were trees, walking. He looked up, and said, "I see men; for I see them like trees walking."
Mark 8:25Then for the second time He put His hands on the man's eyes, and the man, looking steadily, recovered his sight and saw everything distinctly. After that again he laid his hands upon his eyes, and he began to see, and was restored, so that he saw all things clearly. Then again he laid his hands on his eyes. He looked intently, and was restored, and saw everyone clearly.
Mark 8:26So He sent him home, and added, "Do not even go into the village."And he sent him into his house, saying: Go into thy house, and if thou enter into the town, tell nobody. He sent him away to his house, saying, "Don't enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village."
Mark 8:27From that place Jesus and His disciples went to the villages belonging to Caesarea Philippi. On the way He began to ask His disciples, "Who do people say that I am?"And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi. And in the way, he asked his disciples, saying to them: Whom do men say that I am?Jesus went forth, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that I am?"
Mark 8:28"John the Baptist," they replied, "but others say Elijah, and others, that it is one of the Prophets."Who answered him, saying: John the Baptist; but some Elias, and others as one of the prophets. They told him, "John the Baptizer, and others, Elijah, but others, one of the prophets."
Mark 8:29Then He asked them pointedly, "But you yourselves, who do you say that I am?" "You are the Christ," answered Peter. Then he saith to them: But whom do you say that I am? Peter answering said to him: Thou art the Christ. He asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ."
Mark 8:30And He strictly forbad them to tell this about Him to any one.And he strictly charged them that they should not tell any man of him.He charged them that they should tell no one about him.
Mark 8:31And now for the first time He told them, "The Son of Man must endure much suffering, and be rejected by the Elders and the High Priests and the Scribes, and be put to death, and after two days rise to life."And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the ancients and by the high priests, and the scribes, and be killed: and after three days rise again. He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Mark 8:32This He told them plainly; whereupon Peter took Him and began to remonstrate with Him.And he spoke the word openly. And Peter taking him, began to rebuke him.He spoke to them openly. Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
Mark 8:33But turning round and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter. "Get behind me, Adversary," He said, "for your thoughts are not God's thoughts, but men's."Who turning about and seeing his disciples, threatened Peter, saying: Go behind me, Satan, because thou savorest not the things that are of God, but that are of men.But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, "Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men."
Mark 8:34Then calling to Him the crowd and also His disciples, He said to them, "If any one is desirous of following me, let him ignore self and take up his cross, and so be my follower. And calling the multitude together with his disciples, he said to them: If any man will follow me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, "Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Mark 8:35For whoever is bent on securing his life will lose it, but he who loses his life for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News, will secure it.For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel, shall save it.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.
Mark 8:36Why, what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul? For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?
Mark 8:37For what could a man give to buy back his life?Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For what should a man give in exchange for his life?
Mark 8:38Every one, however, who has been ashamed of me and of my teachings in this faithless and sinful age, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in His Father's glory with the holy angels."For he that shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation: the Son of man also will be ashamed of him, when he shall come in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
