Hebrews 10:1 | For, since the Law exhibits only an outline of the blessings to come and not a perfect representation of the things themselves, the priests can never, by repeating the same sacrifices which they continually offer year after year, give complete freedom from sin to those who draw near. | For the law having a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things; by the selfsame sacrifices which they offer continually every year, can never make the comers thereunto perfect: | For the law having a shadow of the coming good things not the very image of the matters, every year, by the same sacrifices that they offer continually, is never able to make perfect those coming near, |
Hebrews 10:2 | For then would not the sacrifices have ceased to be offered, because the consciences of the worshippers who in that case would now have been cleansed once for all would no longer be burdened with sins? | For then they would have ceased to be offered: because the worshippers once cleansed should have no conscience of sin any longer: | since, would they not have ceased to be offered, because of those serving having no more conscience of sins, having once been purified? |
Hebrews 10:3 | But in those sacrifices sins are recalled to memory year after year. | But in them there is made a commemoration of sins every year. | but in those [sacrifices] is a remembrance of sins every year, |
Hebrews 10:4 | For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. | For it is impossible that with the blood of oxen and goats sin should be taken away. | for it is impossible for blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. |
Hebrews 10:5 | That is why, when He comes into the world, He says, "Sacrifice and offering Thou has not desired, but a body Thou hast prepared for Me. | Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith: Sacrifice and oblation thou wouldest not: but a body thou hast fitted to me: | Wherefore, coming into the world, he saith, `Sacrifice and offering Thou didst not will, and a body Thou didst prepare for me, |
Hebrews 10:6 | In whole burnt-offerings and in sin-offerings Thou hast taken no pleasure. | Holocausts for sin did not please thee. | in burnt-offerings, and concerning sin-offerings, Thou didst not delight, |
Hebrews 10:7 | Then I said, `I have come in the roll of the book it is written concerning Me to do Thy will, O God.'" | Then said I: Behold I come: in the head of the book it is written of me: that I should do thy will, O God. | then I said, Lo, I come, (in a volume of the book it hath been written concerning me,) to do, O God, Thy will;` |
Hebrews 10:8 | After saying the words I have just quoted, "Sacrifices and offerings or whole burnt-offerings and sin-offerings Thou hast not desired or taken pleasure in" all such being offered in obedience to the Law | In saying before, Sacrifices, and oblations, and holocausts for sin thou wouldest not, neither are they pleasing to thee, which are offered according to the law. | saying above `Sacrifice, and offering, and burnt-offerings, and concerning sin-offering Thou didst not will, nor delight in,` which according to the law are offered |
Hebrews 10:9 | He then adds, "I have come to do Thy will." He does away with the first in order to establish the second. | Then said I: Behold, I come to do thy will, O God: he taketh away the first, that he may establish that which followeth. | then he said, `Lo, I come to do, O God, Thy will;` he doth take away the first that the second he may establish; |
Hebrews 10:10 | It is through that divine will that we have been set free from sin, through the offering of Jesus Christ as our sacrifice once for all. | In the which will, we are sanctified by the oblation of the body of Jesus Christ once. | in the which will we are having been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once, |
Hebrews 10:11 | And while every priest stands ministering, day after day, and constantly offering the same sacrifices though such can never rid us of our sins | And every priest indeed standeth daily ministering, and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. | and every priest, indeed, hath stood daily serving, and the same sacrifices many times offering, that are never able to take away sins. |
Hebrews 10:12 | this Priest, on the contrary, after offering for sins a single sacrifice of perpetual efficacy, took His seat at God's right hand, | But this man offering one sacrifice for sins, for ever sitteth on the right hand of God, | And He, for sin one sacrifice having offered to the end, did sit down on the right hand of God, |
Hebrews 10:13 | waiting from that time onward until His enemies be put as a footstool under His feet. | From henceforth expecting, until his enemies be made his footstool. | as to the rest, expecting till He may place his enemies [as] his footstool, |
Hebrews 10:14 | For by a single offering He has for ever completed the blessing for those whom He is setting free from sin. | For by one oblation he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. | for by one offering he hath perfected to the end those sanctified; |
Hebrews 10:15 | And the Holy Spirit also gives us His testimony; for when He had said, | And the Holy Ghost also doth testify this to us. For after that he said: | and testify to us also doth the Holy Spirit, for after that He hath said before, |
Hebrews 10:16 | "`This is the Covenant that I will make with them after those days,' says the Lord: `I will put My laws upon their hearts and will write them on their minds;'" | And this is the testament which I will make unto them after those days, saith the Lord. I will give my laws in their hearts, and on their minds will I write them: | `This [is] the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, giving My laws on their hearts, and upon their minds I will write them,` |
Hebrews 10:17 | He adds, "And their sins and offences I will remember no longer." | And their sins and iniquities I will remember no more. | and `their sins and their lawlessness I will remember no more;` |
Hebrews 10:18 | But where these have been forgiven no further offering for sin is required. | Now where there is a remission of these, there is no more an oblation for sin. | and where forgiveness of these [is], there is no more offering for sin. |
Hebrews 10:19 | Since then, brethren, we have free access to the Holy place through the blood of Jesus, | Having therefore, brethren, a confidence in the entering into the holies by the blood of Christ; | Having, therefore, brethren, boldness for the entrance into the holy places, in the blood of Jesus, |
Hebrews 10:20 | by the new and ever-living way which He opened up for us through the rending of the veil that is to say, of His earthly nature | A new and living way which he hath dedicated for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, | which way he did initiate for us new and living, through the vail, that is, his flesh |
Hebrews 10:21 | and since we have a great Priest who has authority over the house of God, | And a high priest over the house of God: | and a high priest over the house of God, |
Hebrews 10:22 | let us draw near with sincerity and unfaltering faith, having had our hearts sprinkled, once for all, from consciences oppressed with sin, and our bodies bathed in pure water. | Let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with clean water. | may we draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having the hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having the body bathed with pure water; |
Hebrews 10:23 | Let us hold firmly to an unflinching avowal of our hope, for He is faithful who gave us the promises. | Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that hath promised), | may we hold fast the unwavering profession of the hope, (for faithful [is] He who did promise), |
Hebrews 10:24 | And let us bestow thought on one another with a view to arousing one another to brotherly love and right conduct; | And let us consider one another, to provoke unto charity and to good works: | and may we consider one another to provoke to love and to good works, |
Hebrews 10:25 | not neglecting as some habitually do to meet together, but encouraging one another, and doing this all the more since you can see the day of Christ approaching. | Not forsaking our assembly, as some are accustomed; but comforting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching. | not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as a custom of certain [is], but exhorting, and so much the more as ye see the day coming nigh. |
Hebrews 10:26 | For if we wilfully persist in sin after having received the full knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains in reserve any other sacrifice for sins. | For if we sin wilfully after having the knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins, | For we willfully sinning after the receiving the full knowledge of the truth no more for sins doth there remain a sacrifice, |
Hebrews 10:27 | There remains nothing but a certain awful expectation of judgement, and the fury of a fire which before long will devour the enemies of the truth. | But a certain dreadful expectation of judgment, and the rage of a fire which shall consume the adversaries. | but a certain fearful looking for of judgment, and fiery zeal, about to devour the opposers; |
Hebrews 10:28 | Any one who bids defiance to the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. | A man making void the law of Moses, dieth without any mercy under two or three witnesses: | any one who did set at nought a law of Moses, apart from mercies, by two or three witnesses, doth die, |
Hebrews 10:29 | How much severer punishment, think you, will he be held to deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, has not regarded as holy that Covenant-blood with which he was set free from sin, and has insulted the Spirit from whom comes grace? | How much more, do you think he deserveth worse punishments, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath esteemed the blood of the testament unclean, by which he was sanctified, and hath offered an affront to the Spirit of grace? | of how much sorer punishment shall he be counted worthy who the Son of God did trample on, and the blood of the covenant did count a common thing, in which he was sanctified, and to the Spirit of the grace did despite? |
Hebrews 10:30 | For we know who it is that has said, "Vengeance belongs to Me: I will pay back;" and again, "The Lord will be His people's judge." | For we know him that hath said: Vengeance belongeth to me, and I will repay. And again: The Lord shall judge his people. | for we have known Him who is saying, `Vengeance [is] Mine, I will recompense, saith the Lord;` and again, `The Lord shall judge His people;` |
Hebrews 10:31 | It is an awful thing to fall into the hands of the ever-living God. | It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. | fearful [is] the falling into the hands of a living God. |
Hebrews 10:32 | But continually recall to mind the days now past, when on being first enlightened you went through a great conflict and many sufferings. | But call to mind the former days, wherein, being illuminated, you endured a great fight of afflictions. | And call to your remembrance the former days, in which, having been enlightened, ye did endure much conflict of sufferings, |
Hebrews 10:33 | This was partly through allowing yourselves to be made a public spectacle amid reproaches and persecutions, and partly through coming forward to share the sufferings of those who were thus treated. | And on the one hand indeed, by reproaches and tribulations, were made a gazingstock; and on the other, became companions of them that were used in such sort. | partly both with reproaches and tribulations being made spectacles, and partly having become partners of those so living, |
Hebrews 10:34 | For you not only showed sympathy with those who were imprisoned, but you even submitted with joy when your property was taken from you, being well aware that you have in your own selves a more valuable possession and one which will remain. | For you both had compassion on them that were in bands, and took with joy the being stripped of your own goods, knowing that you have a better and a lasting substance. | for also with my bonds ye sympathised, and the robbery of your goods with joy ye did receive, knowing that ye have in yourselves a better substance in the heavens, and an enduring one. |
Hebrews 10:35 | Therefore do not cast from you your confident hope, for it will receive a vast reward. | Do not therefore lose your confidence, which hath a great reward. | Ye may not cast away, then, your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward, |
Hebrews 10:36 | For you stand in need of patient endurance, so that, as the result of having done the will of God, you may receive the promised blessing. | For patience is necessary for you; that, doing the will of God, you may receive the promise. | for of patience ye have need, that the will of God having done, ye may receive the promise, |
Hebrews 10:37 | For there is still but a short time and then "The coming One will come and will not delay. | For yet a little and a very little while, and he that is to come, will come, and will not delay. | for yet a very very little, He who is coming will come, and will not tarry; |
Hebrews 10:38 | But it is by faith that My righteous servant shall live; and if he shrinks back, My soul takes no pleasure in him." | But my just man liveth by faith; but if he withdraw himself, he shall not please my soul. | and `the righteous by faith shall live,` and `if he may draw back, My soul hath no pleasure in him,` |
Hebrews 10:39 | But we are not people who shrink back and perish, but are among those who believe and gain possession of their souls. | But we are not the children of withdrawing unto perdition, but of faith to the saving of the soul. | and we are not of those drawing back to destruction, but of those believing to a preserving of soul. |
