John 7:1 | After this Jesus moved from place to place in Galilee. He would not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were seeking an opportunity to kill Him. | After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. | After this, Jesus went from place to place in Galilee. He did not go about in Judaea, because the Jews were looking for a chance to put him to death. |
John 7:2 | But the Jewish Festival of the Tent-Pitching was approaching. | Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand. | But the feast of the Jews, the feast of tents, was near. |
John 7:3 | So His brothers said to Him, "Leave these parts and go into Judaea, that not only we but your disciples also may witness the miracles which you perform. | His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. | So his brothers said to him, Go away from here into Judaea so that your disciples may see the works which you do. |
John 7:4 | For no one acts in secret, desiring all the while to be himself known publicly. Since you are doing these things, show yourself openly to the world." | For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. | Because no man does things secretly if he has a desire that men may have knowledge of him. If you do these things, let yourself be seen by all men. |
John 7:5 | For even His brothers were not believers in Him. | For neither did his brethren believe in him. | For even his brothers had no belief in him. |
John 7:6 | "My time," replied Jesus, "has not yet come, but for you any time is suitable. | Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. | Jesus said to them, My time is still to come, but any time is good for you. |
John 7:7 | It is impossible for the world to hate you; but me it does hate, because I give testimony concerning it that its conduct is evil. | The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. | It is not possible for you to be hated by the world; but I am hated by it, because I give witness that what it does is evil. |
John 7:8 | As for you, go up to the Festival. I do not now go up to this Festival, because my time is not yet fully come." | Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. | Go you up to the feast: I am not going up now to the feast because my time has not fully come. |
John 7:9 | Such was His answer, and He remained in Galilee. | When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. | Having said these things to them, he still kept in Galilee. |
John 7:10 | When however His brothers had gone up to the Festival, then He also went up, not openly, but as it were privately. | But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. | But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he went up, not publicly, but in secret. |
John 7:11 | Meanwhile the Jews at the Festival were looking for Him and were inquiring, "Where is he?" | Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? | At the feast the Jews were looking for him and saying, Where is he? |
John 7:12 | Among the mass of the people there was much muttered debate about Him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so: he is imposing on the people." | And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. | And there was much discussion about him among the mass of the people. Some said, He is a good man; but others said, No, he is giving people false ideas. |
John 7:13 | Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke out boldly about Him. | Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews. | But no man said anything about him openly for fear of the Jews. |
John 7:14 | But when the Festival was already half over, Jesus went up to the Temple and commenced teaching. | Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. | Now in the middle of the feast Jesus went up to the Temple and was teaching. |
John 7:15 | The Jews were astonished. "How does this man know anything of books," they said, "although he has never been at any of the schools?" | And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? | Then the Jews were surprised and said, How has this man got knowledge of books? He has never been to school. |
John 7:16 | Jesus answered their question by saying, "My teaching does not belong to me, but comes from Him who sent me. | Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. | Jesus gave them this answer: It is not my teaching, but his who sent me. |
John 7:17 | If any one is willing to do His will, he shall know about the teaching, whether it is from God or originates with me. | If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. | If any man is ready to do God's pleasure he will have knowledge of the teaching and of where it comes from from God or from myself. |
John 7:18 | The man whose teaching originates with himself aims at his own glory. He who aims at the glory of Him who sent him teaches the truth, and there is no deception in him. | He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. | The man whose words come from himself is looking for glory for himself, but he who is looking for the glory of him who sent him that man is true and there is no evil in him. |
John 7:19 | Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not a man of you obeys the Law. Why do you want to kill me?" | Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? | Did not Moses give you the law? Even so, not one of you keeps the law. Why have you a desire to put me to death? |
John 7:20 | "You are possessed by a demon," replied the crowd; "no one wants to kill you." | The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee? | The people said in answer, You have an evil spirit: who has any desire to put you to death? |
John 7:21 | "One deed I have done," replied Jesus, "and you are all full of wonder. | Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. | This was the answer of Jesus: I have done one work and you are all surprised at it. |
John 7:22 | Consider therefore. Moses gave you the rite of circumcision (not that it began with Moses, but with your earlier forefathers), and even on a Sabbath day you circumcise a child. | Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. | Moses gave you circumcision not that it comes from Moses, but from the fathers and even on the Sabbath you give a child circumcision. |
John 7:23 | If a child is circumcised even on a Sabbath day, are you bitter against me because I have restored a man to perfect health on a Sabbath day? | If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? | If a child is given circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? |
John 7:24 | Do not form superficial judgements, but form the judgements that are just." | Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. | Let not your decisions be based on what you see, but on righteousness. |
John 7:25 | Some however of the people of Jerusalem said, "Is not this the man they are wanting to kill? | Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? | Then some of the people of Jerusalem said, Is not this the man whose death is desired? |
John 7:26 | But here he is, speaking openly and boldly, and they say nothing to him! Can the Rulers really have ascertained that this man is the Christ? | But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? | And here he is talking openly and they say nothing to him! Is it possible that the rulers have knowledge that this is truly the Christ? |
John 7:27 | And yet we know this man, and we know where he is from; but as for the Christ, when He comes, no one can tell where He is from." | Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is. | However, it is clear to us where this man comes from: but when the Christ comes no one will have knowledge where he comes from. |
John 7:28 | Jesus therefore, while teaching in the Temple, cried aloud, and said, "Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. And yet I have not come of my own accord; but there is One who has sent me, an Authority indeed, of whom you have no knowledge. | Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. | Then, when he was teaching in the Temple, Jesus said with a loud voice, You have knowledge of me and you have knowledge of where I come from; and I have not come of myself; but there is One who has sent me; he is true, but you have no knowledge of him. |
John 7:29 | I know Him, because I came from Him, and He sent me." | But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me. | I have knowledge of him because I came from him and he sent me. |
John 7:30 | On hearing this they wanted to arrest Him; yet not a hand was laid on Him, because His time had not yet come. | Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. | Then they had a desire to take him: but no man put hands on him because his hour was still to come. |
John 7:31 | But from among the crowd a large number believed in Him. "When the Christ comes," they said, "will He perform more miracles than this teacher has performed?" | And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done? | And numbers of the people had belief in him, and they said, When the Christ comes will he do more signs than this man has done? |
John 7:32 | The Pharisees heard the people thus expressing their various doubts about Him, and the High Priests and the Pharisees sent some officers to apprehend Him. | The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. | This discussion of the people came to the ears of the Pharisees; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent servants to take him. |
John 7:33 | So Jesus said, "Still for a short time I am with you, and then I go my way to Him who sent me. | Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. | Then Jesus said, I will be with you a little longer and then I go to him who sent me. |
John 7:34 | You will look for me and will not find me, and where I am you cannot come." | Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come. | You will be looking for me, and you will not see me: and where I am you may not come. |
John 7:35 | The Jews therefore said to one another, "Where is he about to betake himself, so that we shall not find him? Will he betake himself to the Dispersion among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? | Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? | So the Jews said among themselves, To what place is he going where we will not see him? will he go to the Jews living among the Greeks and become the teacher of the Greeks? |
John 7:36 | What do those words of his mean, `You will look for me, but will not find me, and where I am you cannot come'?" | What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come? | What is this saying of his, You will be looking for me and will not see me, and where I am you may not come? |
John 7:37 | On the last day of the Festival the great day Jesus stood up and cried aloud. "Whoever is thirsty," He said, "let him come to me and drink. | In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. | On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus got up and said in a loud voice, If any man is in need of drink let him come to me and I will give it to him. |
John 7:38 | He who believes in me, from within him as the Scripture has said rivers of living water shall flow." | He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. | He who has faith in me, out of his body, as the Writings have said, will come rivers of living water. |
John 7:39 | He referred to the Spirit which those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not bestowed as yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. | (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) | This he said of the Spirit which would be given to those who had faith in him: the Spirit had not been given then, because the glory of Jesus was still to come. |
John 7:40 | After listening to these discourses, some of the crowd began to say, "This is beyond doubt the Prophet." | Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. | When these words came to their ears, some of the people said, This is certainly the prophet. |
John 7:41 | Others said, "He is the Christ." But others again, "Not so, for is the Christ to come from Galilee? | Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? | Others said, This is the Christ. But others said, Not so; will the Christ come from Galilee? |
John 7:42 | Has not the Scripture declared that the Christ is to come of the family of David and from Bethlehem, David's village?" | Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? | Do not the Writings say that the Christ comes of the seed of David and from Beth-lehem, the little town where David was? |
John 7:43 | So there was a violent dissension among the people on His account. | So there was a division among the people because of him. | So there was a division among the people because of him. |
John 7:44 | Some of them wanted at once to arrest Him, but no one laid hands upon Him. | And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him. | And some of them had a desire to take him; but no man put hands on him. |
John 7:45 | Meanwhile the officers returned to the High Priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why have you not brought him?" | Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? | Then the servants went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, Why have you not got him with you? |
John 7:46 | "No mere man has ever spoken as this man speaks," said the officers. | The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. | The servants made answer, No man ever said things like this man. |
John 7:47 | "Are *you* deluded too?" replied the Pharisees; | Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived? | Then the Pharisees said to them, Have you, like the others, been given false ideas? |
John 7:48 | "has any one of the Rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? | Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? | Have any of the rulers belief in him, or any one of the Pharisees? |
John 7:49 | But this rabble who understand nothing about the Law are accursed!" | But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed. | But these people who have no knowledge of the law are cursed. |
John 7:50 | Nicodemus interposed he who had formerly gone to Jesus, being himself one of them. | Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) | Nicodemus he who had come to Jesus before, being himself one of them said to them, |
John 7:51 | "Does our Law," he asked, "judge a man without first hearing what he has to say and ascertaining what his conduct is?" | Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? | Is a man judged by our law before it has given him a hearing and has knowledge of what he has done? |
John 7:52 | "Do you also come from Galilee?" they asked in reply. "Search and see for yourself that no Prophet is of Galilaean origin." | They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. | This was their answer: And do you come from Galilee? Make search and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee. |
John 7:53 | [So they went away to their several homes; | And every man went unto his own house. | [And every man went to his house; |
