Luke 6:1Now on the second-first Sabbath while He was passing through the wheatfields, His disciples were plucking the ears and rubbing them with their hands to eat the grain.And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands. Now it came about that on the Sabbath he was going through the fields of grain, and his disciples took the heads of the grain for food, crushing them in their hands.
Luke 6:2And some of the Pharisees asked, "Why are you doing what the Law forbids on the Sabbath?"And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days? But some of the Pharisees said, Why do you do what it is not right to do on the Sabbath?
Luke 6:3"Have you never read so much as this," answered Jesus "what David did when he and his followers were hungry;And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him; And Jesus said, Have you not seen in the Writings what David did when he was in need of food, he, and those who were with him;
Luke 6:4how he entered the house of God and took and ate the Presented Loaves and gave some to his followers loaves which none but the Priests are allowed to eat?"How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone? How he went into the house of God and took for food the holy bread, which only the priests may take, and gave it to those who were with him?
Luke 6:5"The Son of Man," He added, "is Lord of the Sabbath also."And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. And he said, The Son of man is lord even of the Sabbath.
Luke 6:6On another Sabbath He had gone to the synagogue and was teaching there; and in the congregation was a man whose right arm was withered.And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. And it came about, on another Sabbath, that he went into the Synagogue and was teaching there. And a man was there whose right hand was dead.
Luke 6:7The Scribes and the Pharisees were on the watch to see whether He would cure him on the Sabbath that they might be able to bring an accusation against Him.And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. And the scribes and Pharisees were watching him to see if he would make him well on the Sabbath, so that they might be able to say something against him.
Luke 6:8He knew their thoughts, and said to the man with the withered arm, "Rise, and stand there in the middle." And he rose and stood there.But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. But he had knowledge of their thoughts; and he said to the man whose hand was dead, Get up and come into the middle. And he got up and came forward.
Luke 6:9Then Jesus said to them, "I put it to you all whether we are allowed to do good on the Sabbath, or to do evil; to save a life, or to destroy it."Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it? And Jesus said, I put the question to you, Is it right to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil? to give life or to take it away?
Luke 6:10And looking round upon them all He said to the man, "Stretch out your arm." He did so, and the arm was restored.And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. And looking round on all of them, he said to him, Put out your hand. And he did so: and his hand was made well.
Luke 6:11But they were filled with madness, and began to discuss with one another what they should do to Jesus.And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus. But they were full of wrath, and were talking together about what they might do to Jesus.
Luke 6:12About that time He went out on one occasion into the hill country to pray; and He remained all night in prayer to God.And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And it came about in those days that he went out to the mountain for prayer; and he was all night in prayer to God.
Luke 6:13When it was day, He called His disciples; and He selected from among them twelve, whom He also named Apostles.And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; And the day came and, turning to his disciples, he made a selection from among them of twelve, to whom he gave the name of Apostles;
Luke 6:14These were Simon, to whom also He had given the name of Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew;Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, Simon, to whom he gave the name of Peter, and Andrew, his brother, and James and John and Philip and Bartholomew
Luke 6:15Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon called the Zealot;Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes, And Matthew and Thomas and James, the son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was named the Zealot,
Luke 6:16James's relative Judas, and Judas Iscariot who proved to be a traitor.And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor. And Judas, the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, he who was false to him.
Luke 6:17With these He came down till He reached a level place, where there was a great crowd of His disciples, and a multitude of people from every part of Judaea, from Jerusalem, and from the sea-side district of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and to be cured of their diseases;And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; And he came down with them to a level place, and a great band of his disciples, and a very great number of people from all Judaea and Jerusalem and from the parts of Tyre and Sidon by the sea, came to give hearing to him, and to be made well from their diseases;
Luke 6:18and those who were tormented by foul spirits were cured.And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were made well.
Luke 6:19The whole crowd were eager to touch Him, because power went forth from him and cured every one.And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all. And all the people were desiring to be touched by him, for power came from him and made them all well.
Luke 6:20Then fixing His eyes upon His disciples, Jesus said to them, "Blessed are you poor, because the Kingdom of God is yours.And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. And turning his eyes to his disciples he said, Happy are you who are poor: for the kingdom of God is yours.
Luke 6:21"Blessed are you who hunger now, because your hunger shall be satisfied. "Blessed are you who now weep aloud, because you shall laugh.Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. Happy are you who are in need of food now: for you will be made full. Happy are you who are weeping now; for you will be glad.
Luke 6:22"Blessed are you when men shall hate you and exclude you from their society and insult you, and spurn your very names as evil things, for the Son of Man's sake.Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Happy are you, when men have hate for you, and put you away from among them and say angry words to you, turning away in disgust at your name, because of the Son of man.
Luke 6:23"Be glad at such a time, and dance for joy; for your reward is great in Heaven; for that is just the way their forefathers behaved to the Prophets!Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. Be glad in that day, and be lifted up for joy, for your reward in heaven will be great: for their fathers did these same things to the prophets.
Luke 6:24"But alas for you rich men, because you already have your consolation!But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. But unhappy are you who have wealth: for you have been comforted now.
Luke 6:25"Alas for you who now have plenty to eat, because you will be hungry! "Alas for you who laugh now, because you will mourn and weep aloud!Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. Unhappy are you who are full of food now: for you will be in need. Unhappy are you who are laughing now: for you will be crying in sorrow.
Luke 6:26"Alas for you when men shall all have spoken well of you; for that is just the way their forefathers behaved to the false Prophets!Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. Unhappy are you when all men give you their approval: for so their fathers did to the false prophets.
Luke 6:27"But to you who are listening to me I say, Love your enemies; seek the welfare of those who hate you;But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, But I say to you who give ear to me, Have love for those who are against you, do good to those who have hate for you,
Luke 6:28bless those who curse you; pray for those who revile you.Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. Give blessing to those who give you curses, say prayers for those who are cruel to you.
Luke 6:29To him who gives you a blow on one side of the face offer the other side also; and to him who is robbing you of your outer garment refuse not the under one also.And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also. If a man gives you a blow on one side of your face, then let the other side be turned to him; from him who takes away your coat, do not keep back your robe.
Luke 6:30To every one who asks, give; and from him who takes away your property, do not demand it back.Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. Give to everyone who comes with a request, and if a man takes away your property, make no attempt to get it back again.
Luke 6:31And behave to your fellow men just as you would have them behave to you.And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Luke 6:32"If you love those who love you, what credit is it to you? Why, even bad men love those who love them.For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. If you have love for those who have love for you, what credit is it to you? for even sinners have love for those who have love for them.
Luke 6:33And if you are kind to those who are kind to you, what credit is it to you? Even bad men act thus.And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is it to you? for even sinners do the same.
Luke 6:34And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is it to you? Even bad men lend to their fellows so as to receive back an equal amount.And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. And if you let those have the use of your money, from whom you are hoping to get it back, what credit is it to you? even sinners do so to sinners, hoping to get back as much as they gave.
Luke 6:35Nevertheless love your enemies, be beneficent; and lend without hoping for any repayment. Then your recompense shall be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. But be loving to those who are against you and do them good, and give them your money, not giving up hope, and your reward will be great and you will be the sons of the Most High: for he is kind to evil men, and to those who have hard hearts.
Luke 6:36Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate.Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Be full of pity, even as your Father is full of pity.
Luke 6:37"Judge not, and you shall not be judged; condemn not, and you shall not be condemned; pardon, and you shall be pardoned;Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Be not judges of others, and you will not be judged: do not give punishment to others, and you will not get punishment yourselves: make others free, and you will be made free:
Luke 6:38give, and gifts shall be bestowed on you. Full measure, pressed, shaken down, and running over, shall they pour into your laps; for with the same measure that you use they shall measure to you in return."Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, crushed down, full and running over, they will give to you. For in the same measure as you give, it will be given to you again.
Luke 6:39He also spoke to them in figurative language. "Can a blind man lead a blind man?" He asked; "would not both fall into the ditch?And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch? And he gave them teaching in the form of a story, saying, Is it possible for one blind man to be guide to another? will they not go falling together into a hole?
Luke 6:40There is no disciple who is superior to his teacher; but every one whose instruction is complete will be like his teacher.The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. The disciple is not greater than his master, but everyone whose learning is complete will be like his master.
Luke 6:41"And why look at the splinter in your brother's eye instead of giving careful attention to the beam in your own?And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? And why do you take note of the grain of dust in your brother's eye, but take no note of the bit of wood which is in your eye?
Luke 6:42How can you say to your brother, `Brother, let me take that splinter out of your eye,' when all the while you yourself do not see the beam in your own eye? Vain pretender! take the beam out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother's eye.Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. How will you say to your brother, Brother, let me take the grain of dust out of your eye, when you yourself do not see the bit of wood in your eye? O false one! first take the wood out of your eye and then you will see clearly to take the dust out of your brother's eye.
Luke 6:43"There is no good tree that yields unsound fruit, nor again any unsound tree that yields good fruit.For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For no good tree gives bad fruit, and no bad tree gives good fruit.
Luke 6:44Every tree is known by its own fruit. It is not from thorns that men gather figs, nor from the bramble that they can get a bunch of grapes.For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes. For every tree is judged by its fruit. Men do not get figs from thorns, or grapes from blackberry plants.
Luke 6:45A good man from the good stored up in his heart brings out what is good; and an evil man from the evil stored up brings out what is evil; for from the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. The good man, out of the good store of his heart, gives good things; and the evil man, out of his evil store, gives evil: for out of the full store of the heart come the words of the mouth.
Luke 6:46"And why do you all call me `Master, Master' and yet not do what I tell you?And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Why do you say to me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Luke 6:47Every one who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them in practice, I will show you whom he is like.Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: Everyone who comes to me and gives ear to my words and does them, I will make clear to you what he is like:
Luke 6:48He is like a man building a house, who digs and goes deep, and lays the foundation on the rock; and when a flood comes, the torrent bursts upon that house, but is unable to shake it, because it is securely built.He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. He is like a man building a house, who went deep and put the base of it on a rock; and when the water came up and the river was driving against that house, it was not moved, because the building was good.
Luke 6:49But he who has heard and not practised is like a man who has built a house upon the soft soil without a foundation, against which the torrent bursts, and immediately it collapses, and terrible is the wreck and ruin of that house."But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. But he who gives hearing, without doing, is like a man building a house on the earth without a base for it; and when the force of the river came against it, straight away it came down; and the destruction of that house was great.
