Acts 8:1And Saul fully approved of his murder. At this time a great persecution broke out against the Church in Jerusalem, and all except the Apostles were scattered throughout Judaea and Samaria.And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. And Saul was consenting to his being killed. And on that day there arose a great persecution against the assembly which was in Jerusalem, and all were scattered into the countries of Judaea and Samaria except the apostles.
Acts 8:2A party of devout men, however, buried Stephen, and made loud lamentation over him.And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. And pious men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him.
Acts 8:3But Saul cruelly harassed the Church. He went into house after house, and, dragging off both men and women, threw them into prison.As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into the houses one after another, and dragging off both men and women delivered them up to prison.
Acts 8:4Those, however, who were scattered abroad went from place to place spreading the Good News of God's Message;Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Those then that had been scattered went through [the countries] announcing the glad tidings of the word.
Acts 8:5while Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed Christ there.Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. And Philip, going down to a city of Samaria, preached the Christ to them;
Acts 8:6Crowds of people, with one accord, gave attention to what they heard from him, listening, and witnessing the signs which he did.And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. and the crowds with one accord gave heed to the things spoken by Philip, when they heard [him] and saw the signs which he wrought.
Acts 8:7For, with a loud cry, foul spirits came out of many possessed by them, and many paralytics and lame persons were restored to health.For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. For from many who had unclean spirits they went out, crying with a loud voice; and many that were paralysed and lame were healed.
Acts 8:8And there was great joy in that city.And there was great joy in that city. And there was great joy in that city.
Acts 8:9Now for some time past there had been a man named Simon living there, who had been practising magic and astonishing the Samaritans, pretending that he was more than human.But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: But a certain man, by name Simon, had been before in the city, using magic arts, and astonishing the nation of Samaria, saying that himself was some great one.
Acts 8:10To him people of all classes paid attention, declaring, "This man is the Power of God, known as the great Power."To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. To whom they had all given heed, from small to great, saying, This is the power of God which is called great.
Acts 8:11His influence over them arose from their having been, for a long time, bewildered by his sorceries.And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. And they gave heed to him, because that for a long time he had astonished them by his magic arts.
Acts 8:12But when Philip began to tell the Good News about the Kingdom of God and about the Name of Jesus Christ, and they embraced the faith, they were baptized, men and women alike.But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. But when they believed Philip announcing the glad tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptised, both men and women.
Acts 8:13Simon himself also believed, and after being baptized remained in close attendance on Philip, and was full of amazement at seeing such signs and such great miracles performed.Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. And Simon also himself believed; and, having been baptised, continued constantly with Philip; and, beholding the signs and great works of power which took place, was astonished.
Acts 8:14When the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that the Samaritans had accepted God's Message, they sent Peter and John to visit them.Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: And the apostles who were in Jerusalem, having heard that Samaria had received the word of God, sent to them Peter and John;
Acts 8:15They, when they came down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit:Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: who, having come down, prayed for them that they might receive [the] Holy Spirit;
Acts 8:16for He had not as yet fallen upon any of them. They had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) for he was not yet fallen upon any of them, only they were baptised to the name of the Lord Jesus.
Acts 8:17Then the Apostles placed their hands upon them, and they received the Holy Spirit.Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. Then they laid their hands upon them, and they received [the] Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:18When, however, Simon saw that it was through the laying on of the Apostles' hands that the Spirit was bestowed, he offered them money.And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, But Simon, having seen that by the laying on of the hands of the apostles the [Holy] Spirit was given, offered them money,
Acts 8:19"Give me too," he said, "that power, so that every one on whom I place my hands will receive the Holy Spirit."Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. saying, Give to me also this power, in order that on whomsoever I may lay hands he may receive [the] Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:20"Perish your money and yourself," replied Peter, "because you have imagined that you can obtain God's free gift with money!But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. And Peter said to him, Thy money go with thee to destruction, because thou hast thought that the gift of God can be obtained by money.
Acts 8:21No part or lot have you in this matter, for your heart is not right in God's sight.Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not upright before God.
Acts 8:22Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord, in the hope that the purpose which is in your heart may perhaps be forgiven you.Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and supplicate the Lord, if indeed the thought of thy heart may be forgiven thee;
Acts 8:23For I perceive that you have fallen into the bitterest bondage of unrighteousness."For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. for I see thee to be in the gall of bitterness, and bond of unrighteousness.
Acts 8:24"Pray, both of you, to the Lord for me," answered Simon, "that nothing of what you have said may come upon me."Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me. And Simon answering said, Supplicate *ye* for me to the Lord, so that nothing may come upon me of the things of which ye have spoken.
Acts 8:25So the Apostles, after giving a solemn charge and delivering the Lord's Message, travelled back to Jerusalem, making known the Good News also in many of the Samaritan villages.And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. They therefore, having testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and announced the glad tidings to many villages of the Samaritans.
Acts 8:26And an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Rise and proceed south to the road that runs down from Jerusalem to Gaza, crossing the Desert."And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. But [the] angel of [the] Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Rise up and go southward on the way which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza: the same is desert.
Acts 8:27Upon this he rose and went. Now, as it happened, an Ethiopian eunuch who was in a position of high authority with Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, as her treasurer, had visited Jerusalem to worship there,And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, And he rose up and went. And lo, an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a man in power under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to worship at Jerusalem,
Acts 8:28and was now on his way home; and as he sat in his chariot he was reading the Prophet Isaiah.Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. was returning and sitting in his chariot: and he was reading the prophet Esaias.
Acts 8:29Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go and enter that chariot."Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And the Spirit said to Philip, Approach and join this chariot.
Acts 8:30So Philip ran up and heard the eunuch reading the Prophet Isaiah. "Do you understand what you are reading?" he asked.And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And Philip, running up, heard him reading the prophet Esaias, and said, Dost thou then know what thou art reading of?
Acts 8:31"Why, how can I," replied the eunuch, "unless some one explains it to me?" And he earnestly invited Philip to come up and sit with him.And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. And he said, How should I then be able unless some one guide me? And he begged Philip to come up and sit with him.
Acts 8:32The passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: "Like a sheep He was led to slaughter, and just as a lamb before its shearer is dumb so He opened not His mouth.The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: And the passage of the scripture which he read was this: He was led as a sheep to slaughter, and as a lamb is dumb in presence of him that shears him, thus he opens not his mouth.
Acts 8:33In His humiliation justice was denied Him. Who will make known His posterity? For He is destroyed from among men."In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. In his humiliation his judgment has been taken away, and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
Acts 8:34"Pray, of whom is the Prophet speaking?" inquired the eunuch; "of himself or of some one else?"And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? And the eunuch answering Philip said, I pray thee, concerning whom does the prophet say this? of himself or of some other?
Acts 8:35Then Philip began to speak, and, commencing with that same portion of Scripture, told him the Good News about Jesus.Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And Philip, opening his mouth and beginning from that scripture, announced the glad tidings of Jesus to him.
Acts 8:36So they proceeded on their way till they came to some water; and the eunuch exclaimed, "See, here is water; what is there to prevent my being baptized?"And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And as they went along the way, they came upon a certain water, and the eunuch says, Behold water; what hinders my being baptised?
Acts 8:37[]And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Acts 8:38So he stopped the chariot; and both of them Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And he commanded the chariot to stop. And they went down both to the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptised him.
Acts 8:39But no sooner had they come up out of the water than the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again. With a glad heart he resumed his journey;And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. But when they came up out of the water [the] Spirit of [the] Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no longer, for he went on his way rejoicing.
Acts 8:40but Philip found himself at Ashdod. Then visiting town after town he everywhere made known the Good News until he reached Caesarea.But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea. And Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through he announced the glad tidings to all the cities till he came to Caesarea.
