Matthew 19:1 | When Jesus had finished these discourses, He removed from Galilee and came into that part of Judaea which lay beyond the Jordan. | And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; | And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, he withdrew from Galilee, and came to the coasts of Judaea beyond the Jordan; |
Matthew 19:2 | And a vast multitude followed him, and He cured them there. | And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. | and great crowds followed him, and he healed them there. |
Matthew 19:3 | Then came some of the Pharisees to Him to put Him to the proof by the question, "Has a man a right to divorce his wife whenever he chooses?" | The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? | And the Pharisees came to him tempting him, and saying, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? |
Matthew 19:4 | "Have you not read," He replied, "that He who made them `made them' from the beginning `male and female, | And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, | But he answering said [to them], Have ye not read that he who made [them], from the beginning made them male and female, |
Matthew 19:5 | and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall be one'? | And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? | and said, On account of this a man shall leave father and mother, and shall be united to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh? |
Matthew 19:6 | Thus they are no longer two, but `one'! What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate." | Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. | so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate. |
Matthew 19:7 | "Why then," said they, "did Moses command the husband to give her `a written notice of divorce,' and so put her away?" | They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? | They say to him, Why then did Moses command to give a letter of divorce and to send [her] away? |
Matthew 19:8 | "Moses," He replied, "in consideration of the hardness of your nature permitted you to put away your wives, but it has not been so from the beginning. | He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. | He says to them, Moses, in view of your hardheartedness, allowed you to put away your wives; but from the beginning it was not thus. |
Matthew 19:9 | And I tell you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except her unfaithfulness, and marries another woman, commits adultery." | And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery. | But I say unto you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, not for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery; and he who marries one put away commits adultery. |
Matthew 19:10 | "If this is the case with a man in relation to his wife," said the disciples to Him, "it is better not to marry." | His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. | His disciples say to him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry. |
Matthew 19:11 | "It is not every man," He replied, "who can receive this teaching, but only those on whom the grace has been bestowed. | But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. | And he said to them, All cannot receive this word, but those to whom it has been given; |
Matthew 19:12 | There are men who from their birth have been disabled from marriage, others who have been so disabled by men, and others who have disabled themselves for the sake of the Kingdom of the Heavens. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it." | For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. | for there are eunuchs which have been born thus from [their] mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs of men; and there are eunuchs who have made eunuchs of themselves for the sake of the kingdom of the heavens. He that is able to receive [it], let him receive [it]. |
Matthew 19:13 | Then young children were brought to Him for Him to put His hands on them and pray; but the disciples interfered. | Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. | Then there were brought to him little children that he might lay his hands on them and pray; but the disciples rebuked them. |
Matthew 19:14 | Jesus however said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for it is to those who are childlike that the Kingdom of the Heavens belongs." | But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. | But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and do not hinder them from coming to me; for the kingdom of the heavens is of such: |
Matthew 19:15 | So He laid His hands upon them and went away. | And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence. | and having laid his hands upon them, he departed thence. |
Matthew 19:16 | "Teacher," said one man, coming up to Him, "what that is good shall I do in order to win the Life of the Ages?" | And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? | And lo, one coming up said to him, Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have life eternal? |
Matthew 19:17 | "Why do you ask me," He replied, "about what is good? There is only One who is truly good. But if you desire to enter into Life, keep the Commandments." | And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. | And he said to him, What askest thou me concerning goodness? one is good. But if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments. |
Matthew 19:18 | "Which Commandments?" he asked. Jesus answered, "`Thou shalt not kill;' `Thou shalt not commit adultery;' `Thou shalt not steal;' `Thou shalt not lie in giving evidence;' | He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, | He says to him, Which? And Jesus said, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, |
Matthew 19:19 | `Honour thy father and thy mother'; and `Thou shalt love thy fellow man as much as thyself.'" | Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. | Honour thy father and thy mother, and Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. |
Matthew 19:20 | "All of these," said the young man, "I have carefully kept. What do I still lack?" | The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? | The young man says to him, All these have I kept; what lack I yet? |
Matthew 19:21 | "If you desire to be perfect," replied Jesus, "go and sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have wealth in Heaven; and come, follow me." | Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. | Jesus said to him, If thou wouldest be perfect, go, sell what thou hast and give to [the] poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me. |
Matthew 19:22 | On hearing those words the young man went away much cast down; for he had much property. | But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. | But the young man, having heard the word, went away grieved, for he had large possessions. |
Matthew 19:23 | So Jesus said to His disciples, "I solemnly tell you that it is with difficulty that a rich man will enter the Kingdom of the Heavens. | Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. | And Jesus said to his disciples, Verily I say unto you, A rich man shall with difficulty enter into the kingdom of the heavens; |
Matthew 19:24 | Yes, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God." | And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. | and again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to enter a needle's eye than a rich man into the kingdom of God. |
Matthew 19:25 | These words utterly amazed the disciples, and they asked, "Who then can be saved?" | When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? | And when the disciples heard [it] they were exceedingly astonished, saying, Who then can be saved? |
Matthew 19:26 | Jesus looked at them and said, "With men this is impossible, but with God everything is possible." | But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. | But Jesus, looking on [them], said to them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. |
Matthew 19:27 | Then Peter said to Jesus, "See, *we* have forsaken everything and followed you; what then will be *our* reward?" | Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? | Then Peter answering said to him, Behold, *we* have left all things and have followed thee; what then shall happen to us? |
Matthew 19:28 | "I solemnly tell you," replied Jesus, "that in the New Creation, when the Son of Man has taken His seat on His glorious throne, all of you who have followed me shall also sit on twelve thrones and judge the twelve tribes of Israel. | And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. | And Jesus said to them, Verily I say unto you, That *ye* who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit down upon his throne of glory, *ye* also shall sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. |
Matthew 19:29 | And whoever has forsaken houses, or brothers or sisters, or father or mother, or children or lands, for my sake, shall receive many times as much and shall have as his inheritance the Life of the Ages. | And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. | And every one who has left houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit life eternal. |
Matthew 19:30 | "But many who are now first will be last, and many who are now last will be first. | But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first. | But many first shall be last, and last first. |
