Acts 8:1And Saul fully approved of his murder. At this time a great persecution broke out against the Church in Jerusalem, and all except the Apostles were scattered throughout Judaea and Samaria. And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.
Acts 8:2A party of devout men, however, buried Stephen, and made loud lamentation over him.And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. Devout men buried Stephen, and lamented greatly over him.
Acts 8:3But Saul cruelly harassed the Church. He went into house after house, and, dragging off both men and women, threw them into prison. As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into every house, and dragged both men and women off to prison.
Acts 8:4Those, however, who were scattered abroad went from place to place spreading the Good News of God's Message; Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Therefore those who were scattered abroad went around preaching the word.
Acts 8:5while Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed Christ there. Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed to them the Christ.
Acts 8:6Crowds of people, with one accord, gave attention to what they heard from him, listening, and witnessing the signs which he did.And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. The multitudes listened with one accord to the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he did.
Acts 8:7For, with a loud cry, foul spirits came out of many possessed by them, and many paralytics and lame persons were restored to health. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. For unclean spirits came out of many of those who had them. They came out, crying with a loud voice. Many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.
Acts 8:8And there was great joy in that city. And there was great joy in that city. There was great joy in that city.
Acts 8:9Now for some time past there had been a man named Simon living there, who had been practising magic and astonishing the Samaritans, pretending that he was more than human. But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who had used sorcery in the city before, and amazed the people of Samaria, making himself out to be some great one,
Acts 8:10To him people of all classes paid attention, declaring, "This man is the Power of God, known as the great Power."To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is that great power of God."
Acts 8:11His influence over them arose from their having been, for a long time, bewildered by his sorceries. And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. They listened to him, because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.
Acts 8:12But when Philip began to tell the Good News about the Kingdom of God and about the Name of Jesus Christ, and they embraced the faith, they were baptized, men and women alike. But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Acts 8:13Simon himself also believed, and after being baptized remained in close attendance on Philip, and was full of amazement at seeing such signs and such great miracles performed. Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles done, he was amazed.
Acts 8:14When the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that the Samaritans had accepted God's Message, they sent Peter and John to visit them. Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,
Acts 8:15They, when they came down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit:Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit;
Acts 8:16for He had not as yet fallen upon any of them. They had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) for as yet he had fallen on none of them. They had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
Acts 8:17Then the Apostles placed their hands upon them, and they received the Holy Spirit. Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:18When, however, Simon saw that it was through the laying on of the Apostles' hands that the Spirit was bestowed, he offered them money. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money,
Acts 8:19"Give me too," he said, "that power, so that every one on whom I place my hands will receive the Holy Spirit."Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. saying, "Give me also this power, that whoever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit."
Acts 8:20"Perish your money and yourself," replied Peter, "because you have imagined that you can obtain God's free gift with money! But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
Acts 8:21No part or lot have you in this matter, for your heart is not right in God's sight.Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart isn't right before God.
Acts 8:22Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord, in the hope that the purpose which is in your heart may perhaps be forgiven you.Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
Acts 8:23For I perceive that you have fallen into the bitterest bondage of unrighteousness."For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity."
Acts 8:24"Pray, both of you, to the Lord for me," answered Simon, "that nothing of what you have said may come upon me."Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me. Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, that none of the things which you have spoken come on me."
Acts 8:25So the Apostles, after giving a solemn charge and delivering the Lord's Message, travelled back to Jerusalem, making known the Good News also in many of the Samaritan villages. And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
Acts 8:26And an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Rise and proceed south to the road that runs down from Jerusalem to Gaza, crossing the Desert."And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert."
Acts 8:27Upon this he rose and went. Now, as it happened, an Ethiopian eunuch who was in a position of high authority with Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, as her treasurer, had visited Jerusalem to worship there,And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, He arose and went. Behold, there was a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship.
Acts 8:28and was now on his way home; and as he sat in his chariot he was reading the Prophet Isaiah. Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. He was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
Acts 8:29Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go and enter that chariot."Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. The Spirit said to Philip, "Go near, and join yourself to this chariot."
Acts 8:30So Philip ran up and heard the eunuch reading the Prophet Isaiah. "Do you understand what you are reading?" he asked. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, "Do you understand you what you are reading?"
Acts 8:31"Why, how can I," replied the eunuch, "unless some one explains it to me?" And he earnestly invited Philip to come up and sit with him.And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. He said, "How can I, unless someone explains it to me?" He begged Philip to come up and sit with him.
Acts 8:32The passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: "Like a sheep He was led to slaughter, and just as a lamb before its shearer is dumb so He opened not His mouth. The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb before his shearer is silent, So he doesn't open his mouth.
Acts 8:33In His humiliation justice was denied Him. Who will make known His posterity? For He is destroyed from among men."In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away. Who will declare His generations? For his life is taken from the earth."
Acts 8:34"Pray, of whom is the Prophet speaking?" inquired the eunuch; "of himself or of some one else?"And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? The eunuch answered Philip, "Please tell who the prophet is talking about: about himself, or about some other?"
Acts 8:35Then Philip began to speak, and, commencing with that same portion of Scripture, told him the Good News about Jesus. Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him Jesus.
Acts 8:36So they proceeded on their way till they came to some water; and the eunuch exclaimed, "See, here is water; what is there to prevent my being baptized?"And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? As they went on the way, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Behold, here is water. What is keeping me from being baptized?"
Acts 8:37[]And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Acts 8:38So he stopped the chariot; and both of them Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
Acts 8:39But no sooner had they come up out of the water than the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again. With a glad heart he resumed his journey; And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch didn't see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing.
Acts 8:40but Philip found himself at Ashdod. Then visiting town after town he everywhere made known the Good News until he reached Caesarea. But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea. But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the gospel to all the cities, until he came to Caesarea.
