John 6:1After this Jesus went away across the Lake of Galilee (that is, the Lake of Tiberias). After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.
John 6:2A vast multitude followed Him, because they witnessed the miracles on the sick which He was constantly performing. And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. A great multitude followed him, because they saw the signs which he did on those who were sick.
John 6:3Then Jesus went up the hill, and sat there with His disciples. And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples.
John 6:4The Jewish Festival, the Passover, was at hand. And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.
John 6:5And when He looked round and saw an immense crowd coming towards Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for all these people to eat?"When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip, "Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?"
John 6:6He said this to put Philip to the test, for He Himself knew what He was going to do.And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.
John 6:7"Seven pounds' worth of bread," replied Philip, "is not enough for them all to get even a scanty meal."Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that everyone of them may receive a little."
John 6:8One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him,One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him, One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him,
John 6:9"There is a boy here with five barley loaves and a couple of fish: but what is that among so many?"There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?"
John 6:10"Make the people sit down," said Jesus. The ground was covered with thick grass; so they sat down, the adult men numbering about 5,000.And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
John 6:11Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were resting on the ground; and also the fish in like manner as much as they desired. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.
John 6:12When all were fully satisfied, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the broken portions that remain over, so that nothing be lost."When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. When they were filled, he said to his disciples, "Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost."
John 6:13Accordingly they gathered them up; and with the fragments of the five barley loaves the broken portions that remained over after they had done eating they filled twelve baskets. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.
John 6:14Thereupon the people, having seen the miracle He had performed, said, "This is indeed the Prophet who was to come into the world."Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, "This is truly the prophet who comes into the world."
John 6:15Perceiving, however, that they were about to come and carry Him off by force to make Him a king, Jesus withdrew again up the hill alone by Himself. When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone. Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain by himself.
John 6:16When evening came on, His disciples went down to the Lake. And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea, When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
John 6:17There they got on board a boat, and pushed off to cross the Lake to Capernaum. By this time it had become dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them. and they entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.
John 6:18The Lake also was getting rough, because a strong wind was blowing. And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew. The sea was rising by reason of a great wind that blew.
John 6:19When, however, they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the water and coming near the boat.So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.
John 6:20They were terrified; but He called to them. "It is I," He said, "do not be afraid."But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. But he said to them, "It is I. Don't be afraid."
John 6:21Then they were willing to take Him on board; and in a moment the boat reached the shore at the point to which they were going. Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went. They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
John 6:22Next morning the crowd who were still standing about on the other side of the Lake found that there had been but one small boat there, and they had seen that Jesus did not go on board with His disciples, but that His disciples went away without Him.The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone; On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one which his disciples had entered, and that Jesus hadn't entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples went away alone.
John 6:23Yet a number of small boats came from Tiberias to the neighbourhood of the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.(Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:) However boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
John 6:24When however the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they themselves also took boats and came to Capernaum to look for Jesus. When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn't there, neither his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
John 6:25So when they had crossed the Lake and had found Him, they asked Him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"
John 6:26"In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that you are searching for me not because you have seen miracles, but because you ate the loaves and had a hearty meal.Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves, and were filled.
John 6:27Bestow your pains not on the food which perishes, but on the food that remains unto the Life of the Ages that food which will be the Son of Man's gift to you; for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal."Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Don't work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For the Father, even God, has sealed him."
John 6:28"What are we to do," they asked, "in order to carry out the things that God requires?"Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? They said therefore to him, "What must we do, that we may work the works of God?"
John 6:29"This," replied Jesus, "is above all the thing that God requires that you should be believers in Him whom He has sent."Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."
John 6:30"What miracle then," they asked, "do you perform for us to see and become believers in you? What do you *do*?They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? They said therefore to him, "What then do you do for a sign, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you do?
John 6:31Our forefathers ate the manna in the Desert, as it is written, `He gave them bread out of Heaven to eat'."Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, 'He gave them bread out of the sky to eat.'"
John 6:32"In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that Moses did not give you the bread out of Heaven, but my Father is giving you the bread the true bread out of Heaven. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. Jesus therefore said to them, "Most assuredly, I tell you, it wasn't Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.
John 6:33For God's bread is that which comes down out of Heaven and gives Life to the world."For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world."
John 6:34"Sir," they said, "always give us that bread."Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. They said therefore to him, "Lord, always give us this bread."
John 6:35"I am the bread of Life," replied Jesus; "he who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never, never thirst. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Jesus said to them. "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
John 6:36But it is as I have said to you: you have seen me and yet you do not believe. But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. But I told you that you have seen me, and yet don't believe.
John 6:37Every one whom the Father gives me will come to me, and him who comes to me I will never on any account drive away. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. All that which the Father gives me will come to me. Him who comes to me I will in no way throw out.
John 6:38For I have left Heaven and have come down to earth not to seek my own pleasure, but to do the will of Him who sent me.For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
John 6:39And this is the will of Him who sent me, that of all that He has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it to life on the last day.And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all who he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise them up at the last day.
John 6:40For this is my Father's will, that every one who fixes his gaze on the Son of God and believes in Him should have the Life of the Ages, and I will raise him to life on the last day."And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."
John 6:41Now the Jews began to find fault about Him because of His claiming to be the bread which came down out of Heaven. The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, "I am the bread which came down out of heaven."
John 6:42They kept asking, "Is not this man Joseph's son? Is he not Jesus, whose father and mother we know? What does he mean by now saying, `I have come down out of Heaven'?"And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? They said, "Isn't this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, 'I have come down out of heaven?'"
John 6:43"Do not thus find fault among yourselves," replied Jesus;Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. Therefore Jesus answered them, "Don't murmur among yourselves.
John 6:44"no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; then I will raise him to life on the last day.No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.
John 6:45It stands written in the Prophets, `And they shall all of them be taught by God'. Every one who listens to the Father and learns from Him comes to me.It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. It is written in the prophets, 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who hears from the Father, and has learned, comes to me.
John 6:46No one has ever seen the Father except Him who is from God. He has seen the Father. Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. Not that any man has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.
John 6:47"In most solemn truth I tell you that he who believes has the Life of the Ages.Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. Most assuredly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.
John 6:48I am the bread of Life.I am that bread of life. I am the bread of life.
John 6:49Your forefathers ate the manna in the Desert, and they died.Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
John 6:50Here is the bread that comes down out of Heaven that a man may eat it and not die. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that a man may eat of it, and not die.
John 6:51I am the living bread come down out of Heaven. If a man eats this bread, he shall live for ever. Moreover the bread which I will give is my flesh given for the life of the world."I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world."
John 6:52This led to an angry debate among the Jews. "How can this man," they argued, "give us his flesh to eat?"The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
John 6:53"In most solemn truth I tell you," said Jesus, "that unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no Life in you. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Jesus therefore said to them, "Most assuredly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don't have life in yourselves.
John 6:54He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has the Life of the Ages, and I will raise him up on the last day.Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:55For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
John 6:56He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in union with me, and I remain in union with him.He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.
John 6:57As the ever-living Father has sent me, and I live because of the Father, so also he who eats me will live because of me.As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me.
John 6:58This is the bread which came down out of Heaven; it is unlike that which your forefathers ate for they ate and yet died. He who eats this bread shall live for ever."This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. This is the bread which came down out of heaven not as our fathers ate the manna, and died. He who eats this bread will live forever."
John 6:59Jesus said all this in the synagogue while teaching at Capernaum. These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. These things he said in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
John 6:60Many therefore of His disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is hard to accept. Who can listen to such teaching?"Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying! Who can hear it?"
John 6:61But, knowing in Himself that His disciples were dissatisfied about it, Jesus asked them,When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble?
John 6:62"Does this seem incredible to you? What then if you were to see the Son of Man ascending again where He was before? What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? What if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?
John 6:63It is the spirit which gives Life. The flesh confers no benefit whatever. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and are Life.It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
John 6:64But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. But there are some of you who don't believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn't believe, and who it was who would betray him.
John 6:65So He added, "That is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it be granted him by the Father."And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. He said, "For this cause have I said to you that no one can come to me, except it be given to him by my Father."
John 6:66Thereupon many of His disciples left Him and went away, and no longer associated with Him.From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. At this, many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
John 6:67Jesus therefore appealed to the Twelve. "Will you go also?" He asked. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Jesus said therefore to the twelve, "You don't also want to go away, do you?"
John 6:68"Master," replied Simon Peter, "to whom shall we go? Your teachings tell us of the Life of the Ages. Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.
John 6:69And we have come to believe and know that *you* are indeed the Holy One of God."And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. We have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
John 6:70"Did not I choose you the Twelve?" said Jesus, "and even of you one is a devil."Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? Jesus answered them, "Didn't I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?"
John 6:71He alluded to Judas, the son of Simon the Iscariot. For he it was who, though one of the Twelve, was afterwards to betray Him.He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve. Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.
