John 9:1 | As He passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from his birth. | And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. | As he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth. |
John 9:2 | So His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned this man or his parents that he was born blind?" | And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? | His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" |
John 9:3 | "Neither he nor his parents sinned," answered Jesus, "but he was born blind in order that God's mercy might be openly shown in him. | Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. | Jesus answered, "Neither did this man sin, nor his parents. But, that the works of God might be revealed in him, |
John 9:4 | We must do the works of Him who sent me while there is daylight. Night is coming on, when no one can work. | I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. | I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work. |
John 9:5 | When I am in the world, I am the Light of the world." | As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. | When I am in the world, I am the light of the world." |
John 9:6 | After thus speaking, He spat on the ground, and then, kneading the dust and spittle into clay, He smeared the clay over the man's eyes and said to him, | When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, | When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man's eyes with the mud, |
John 9:7 | "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam" the name means `Sent.' So he went and washed his eyes, and returned able to see. | And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. | and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means "Sent"). So he went away, washed, and came seeing. |
John 9:8 | His neighbours, therefore, and the other people to whom he had been a familiar object because he was a beggar, began asking, "Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?" | The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? | The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was blind, before, said, "Isn't this he who sat and begged?" |
John 9:9 | "Yes it is," replied some of them. "No it is not," said others, "but he is like him." His own statement was, "I am the man." | Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I am he. | Others said, "It is he." Still others said, "He is like him." He said, "I am he." |
John 9:10 | "How then were your eyes opened?" they asked. | Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened? | They said therefore to him, "How were your eyes opened?" |
John 9:11 | "He whose name is Jesus," he answered, "made clay and smeared my eyes with it, and then told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed and obtained sight." | He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. | He answered, "A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, "Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash." So I went away and washed, and I received sight." |
John 9:12 | "Where is he?" they inquired, but the man did not know. | Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not. | Then they asked him, "Where is he?" He said, "I don't know." |
John 9:13 | They brought him to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. | They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind. | They brought him who before was blind to the Pharisees. |
John 9:14 | Now the day on which Jesus made the clay and opened the man's eyes was the Sabbath. | And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. | It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. |
John 9:15 | So the Pharisees renewed their questioning as to how he had obtained his sight. "He put clay on my eyes," he replied, "and I washed, and now I can see." | Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. | Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see." |
John 9:16 | This led some of the Pharisees to say, "That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." "How is it possible for a bad man to do such miracles?" argued others. | Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. | Some therefore of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, because he doesn't keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" There was division among them. |
John 9:17 | And there was a division among them. So again they asked the once blind man, "What is your account of him? for he opened your eyes." "He is a Prophet," he replied. | They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet. | Therefore they asked the blind man again, "What do you say about him, in that he opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet." |
John 9:18 | The Jews, however, did not believe the statement concerning him that he had been blind and had obtained his sight until they called his parents and asked them, | But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. | The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight, |
John 9:19 | "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How is it then that he can now see?" | And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see? | and asked them, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?" |
John 9:20 | "We know," replied the parents, "that this is our son and that he was born blind; | His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: | His parents answered them, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; |
John 9:21 | but how it is that he can now see or who has opened his eyes we do not know. Ask him himself; he is of full age; he himself will give his own account of it." | But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself. | but how he now sees, we don't know; or who opened his eyes, we don't know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself." |
John 9:22 | Such was their answer, because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already settled among themselves that if any one should acknowledge Jesus as the Christ, he should be excluded from the synagogue. | These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. | His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue. |
John 9:23 | That was why his parents said, "He is of full age: ask him himself." | Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him. | Therefore his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him." |
John 9:24 | A second time therefore they called the man who had been blind, and said, "Give God the praise: we know that that man is a sinner." | Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. | So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner." |
John 9:25 | "Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know," he replied; "one thing I know that I was once blind and that now I can see." | He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. | He therefore answered, "I don't know if he is a sinner. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see." |
John 9:26 | "What did he do to you?" they asked; "how did he open your eyes?" | Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? | They said to him again, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?" |
John 9:27 | "I have told you already," he replied, "and you did not listen to me. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also mean to be disciples of his?" | He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? | He answered them, "I told you already, and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become his disciples?" |
John 9:28 | Then they railed at him, and said, "You are that man's disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. | Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples. | They became abusive towards him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. |
John 9:29 | We know that God spoke to Moses; but as for this fellow we do not know where he comes from." | We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is. | We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don't know where he comes from." |
John 9:30 | "Why, this is marvellous!" the man replied; "you do not know where he comes from, and yet he has opened my eyes! | The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. | The man answered them, "How amazing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. |
John 9:31 | We know that God does not listen to bad people, but that if any one is a God-fearing man and obeys Him, to him He listens. | Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. | We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him. |
John 9:32 | From the beginning of the world such a thing was never heard of as that any one should open the eyes of a man blind from his birth. | Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. | Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. |
John 9:33 | Had that man not come from God, he could have done nothing." | If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. | If this man were not from God, he could do nothing." |
John 9:34 | "You," they replied, "were wholly begotten and born in sin, and do *you* teach *us*?" And they put him out of the synagogue. | They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. | They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" They threw him out. |
John 9:35 | Jesus heard that they had done this. So having found him, He asked him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?" | Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? | Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of God?" |
John 9:36 | "Who is He, Sir?" replied the man. "Tell me, so that I may believe in Him." | He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? | He answered, "Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?" |
John 9:37 | "You have seen Him," said Jesus; "and not only so: He is now speaking to you." | And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. | Jesus said to him, "You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you." |
John 9:38 | "I believe, Sir," he said. And he threw himself at His feet. | And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. | He said, "Lord, I believe!" and he worshipped him. |
John 9:39 | "I came into this world," said Jesus, "to judge men, that those who do not see may see, and that those who do see may become blind." | And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. | Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, that those who don't see may see; and that those who see may become blind." |
John 9:40 | These words were heard by those of the Pharisees who were present, and they asked Him, "Are *we* also blind?" | And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also? | Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?" |
John 9:41 | "If you were blind," answered Jesus, "you would have no sin; but as a matter of fact you boast that you see. So your sin remains!" | Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth. | Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains. |
