Romans 1:1Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an Apostle, set apart to proclaim God's Good News,Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
Romans 1:2which God had already promised through His Prophets in Holy Writ, concerning His Son,(Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) which he promised before through his prophets in the holy scriptures,
Romans 1:3who, as regards His human descent, belonged to the posterity of David,Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,
Romans 1:4but as regards the holiness of His Spirit was decisively proved by His Resurrection to be the Son of God I mean concerning Jesus Christ our Lord,And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,
Romans 1:5through whom we have received grace and Apostleship in His service in order to win men to obedience to the faith, among all Gentile peoples,By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: through whom we received grace and apostleship, to obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name's sake.
Romans 1:6among whom you also, called, as you have been, to belong to Jesus Christ, are numbered:Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: Among whom you are also called to be Jesus Christ's.
Romans 1:7To all God's loved ones who are in Rome, called to be saints. May grace and peace be granted to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 1:8First of all, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for what He has done for all of you; for the report of your faith is spreading through the whole world.First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world.
Romans 1:9I call God to witness to whom I render priestly and spiritual service by telling the Good News about His Son how unceasingly I make mention of you in His presence,For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you always in my prayers,
Romans 1:10always in my prayers entreating that now, at length, if such be His will, the way may by some means be made clear for me to come to you.Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you. requesting, if by any means now at length I may be prospered by the will of God to come to you.
Romans 1:11For I am longing to see you, in order to convey to you some spiritual help, so that you may be strengthened;For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, to the end you may be established;
Romans 1:12in other words that while I am among you we may be mutually encouraged by one another's faith, yours and mine.That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. that is, that I with you may be comforted in you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine.
Romans 1:13And I desire you to know, brethren, that I have many a time intended to come to you though until now I have been disappointed in order that among you also I might gather some fruit from my labours, as I have already done among the rest of the Gentile nations.Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles. Now I don't desire to have you unaware, brothers, that often I planned to come to you, and was hindered so far, that I might have some fruit in you also, even as in the rest of the Gentiles.
Romans 1:14I am already under obligations alike to Greek-speaking races and to others, to cultured and to uncultured people:I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. I am debtor both to Greeks and to foreigners, both to the wise and to the foolish.
Romans 1:15so that for my part I am willing and eager to proclaim the Good News to you also who are in Rome.So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.
Romans 1:16For I am not ashamed of the Good News. It is God's power which is at work for the salvation of every one who believes the Jew first, and then the Gentile.For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation to everyone who believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Romans 1:17For in the Good News a righteousness which comes from God is being revealed, depending on faith and tending to produce faith; as the Scripture has it, "The righteous man shall live by faith."For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith to faith. As it is written, "But the righteous shall live by faith."
Romans 1:18For God's anger is being revealed from Heaven against all impiety and against the iniquity of men who through iniquity suppress the truth. God is angry:For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness,
Romans 1:19because what may be known about Him is plain to their inmost consciousness; for He Himself has made it plain to them.Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. because that which is known by God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them.
Romans 1:20For, from the very creation of the world, His invisible perfections namely His eternal power and divine nature have been rendered intelligible and clearly visible by His works, so that these men are without excuse.For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse.
Romans 1:21For when they had come to know God, they did not give Him glory as God nor render Him thanks, but they became absorbed in useless discussions, and their senseless minds were darkened.Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Because, knowing God, they didn't glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.
Romans 1:22While boasting of their wisdom they became utter fools,Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Romans 1:23and, instead of worshipping the imperishable God, they worshipped images resembling perishable man or resembling birds or beasts or reptiles.And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.
Romans 1:24For this reason, in accordance with their own depraved cravings, God gave them up to uncleanness, allowing them to dishonour their bodies among themselves with impurity.Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves,
Romans 1:25For they had bartered the reality of God for what is unreal, and had offered divine honours and religious service to created things, rather than to the Creator He who is for ever blessed. Amen.Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Romans 1:26This then is the reason why God gave them up to vile passions. For not only did the women among them exchange the natural use of their bodies for one which is contrary to nature, but the men also,For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature.
Romans 1:27in just the same way neglecting that for which nature intends women burned with passion towards one another, men practising shameful vice with men, and receiving in their own selves the reward which necessarily followed their misconduct.And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error.
Romans 1:28And just as they had refused to continue to have a full knowledge of God, so it was to utterly worthless minds that God gave them up, for them to do things which should not be done.And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
Romans 1:29Their hearts overflowed with all sorts of dishonesty, mischief, greed, malice. They were full of envy and murder, and were quarrelsome, crafty, and spiteful.Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers,
Romans 1:30They were secret backbiters, open slanderers; hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful; inventors of new forms of sin, disobedient to parents, destitute of common sense,Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Romans 1:31faithless to their promises, without natural affection, without human pity.Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful;
Romans 1:32In short, though knowing full well the sentence which God pronounces against actions such as theirs, as things which deserve death, they not only practise them, but even encourage and applaud others who do them.Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with those who practice them.
