2nd-Peter 3:1 | This letter which I am now writing to you, dear friends, is my second letter. In both my letters I seek to revive in your honest minds the memory of certain things, | This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: | This, now, beloved, a second letter to you I write, in both which I stir up your pure mind in reminding [you], |
2nd-Peter 3:2 | so that you may recall the words spoken long ago by the holy Prophets, and the commandments of our Lord and Saviour given you through your Apostles. | That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: | to be mindful of the sayings said before by the holy prophets, and of the command of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour, |
2nd-Peter 3:3 | But, above all, remember that, in the last days, men will come who make a mock at everything men governed only by their own passions, | Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, | this first knowing, that there shall come in the latter end of the days scoffers, according to their own desires going on, |
2nd-Peter 3:4 | and, asking, "What has become of His promised Return? For from the time our forefathers fell asleep all things continue as they have been ever since the creation of the world." | And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. | and saying, `Where is the promise of his presence? for since the fathers did fall asleep, all things so remain from the beginning of the creation;` |
2nd-Peter 3:5 | For they are wilfully blind to the fact that there were heavens which existed of old, and an earth, the latter arising out of water and extending continuously through water, by the command of God; | For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: | for this is unobserved by them willingly, that the heavens were of old, and the earth out of water and through water standing together by the word of God, |
2nd-Peter 3:6 | and that, by means of these, the then existing race of men was overwhelmed with water and perished. | Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: | through which the then world, by water having been deluged, was destroyed; |
2nd-Peter 3:7 | But the present heavens and the present earth are, by the command of the same God, kept stored up, reserved for fire in preparation for a day of judgement and of destruction for the ungodly. | But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. | and the present heavens and the earth, by the same word are treasured, for fire being kept to a day of judgment and destruction of the impious men. |
2nd-Peter 3:8 | But there is one thing, dear friends, which you must not forget. With the Lord one day resembles a thousand years and a thousand years resemble one day. | But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. | And this one thing let not be unobserved by you, beloved, that one day with the Lord [is] as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day; |
2nd-Peter 3:9 | The Lord is not slow in fulfilling His promise, in the sense in which some men speak of slowness. But He bears patiently with you, His desire being that no one should perish but that all should come to repentance. | The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. | the Lord is not slow in regard to the promise, as certain count slowness, but is long-suffering to us, not counselling any to be lost but all to pass on to reformation, |
2nd-Peter 3:10 | The day of the Lord will come like a thief it will be a day on which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, the elements be destroyed in the fierce heat, and the earth and all the works of man be utterly burnt up. | But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. | and it will come the day of the Lord as a thief in the night, in which the heavens with a rushing noise will pass away, and the elements with burning heat be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up. |
2nd-Peter 3:11 | Since all these things are thus pre-destined to dissolution, what sort of men ought you to be found to be in all holy living and godly conduct, | Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, | All these, then, being dissolved, what kind of persons doth it behove you to be in holy behaviours and pious acts? |
2nd-Peter 3:12 | eagerly looking forward to the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens, all ablaze, will be destroyed, and the elements will melt in the fierce heat? | Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? | waiting for and hasting to the presence of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt; |
2nd-Peter 3:13 | But in accordance with His promise we are expecting new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness will dwell. | Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. | and for new heavens and a new earth according to His promise we do wait, in which righteousness doth dwell; |
2nd-Peter 3:14 | Therefore, dear friends, since you have these expectations, earnestly seek to be found in His presence, free from blemish or reproach, in peace. | Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. | wherefore, beloved, these things waiting for, be diligent, spotless and unblameable, by Him to be found in peace, |
2nd-Peter 3:15 | And always regard the patient forbearance of our Lord as salvation, as our dear brother Paul also has written to you in virtue of the wisdom granted to him. | And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; | and the long-suffering of our Lord count ye salvation, according as also our beloved brother Paul according to the wisdom given to him did write to you, |
2nd-Peter 3:16 | That is what he says in all his letters, when speaking in them of these things. In those letters there are some statements hard to understand, which ill-taught and unprincipled people pervert, just as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own ruin. | As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. | as also in all the epistles, speaking in them concerning these things, among which things are certain hard to be understood, which the untaught and unstable do wrest, as also the other Writings, unto their own destruction. |
2nd-Peter 3:17 | You, therefore, dear friends, having been warned beforehand, must continually be on your guard so as not to be led astray by the false teaching of immoral men nor fall from your own stedfastness. | Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. | Ye, then, beloved, knowing before, take heed, lest, together with the error of the impious being led away, ye may fall from your own stedfastness, |
2nd-Peter 3:18 | But be always growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be all glory, both now and to the day of Eternity! | But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. | and increase ye in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; to him [is] the glory both now, and to the day of the age! Amen. |
