Acts 18:1After this he left Athens and came to Corinth.After these things, Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;After these things, he went away from Athens, and came to Corinth.
Acts 18:2Here he found a Jew, a native of Pontus, of the name of Aquila. He and his wife Priscilla had recently come from Italy because of Claudius's edict expelling all the Jews from Rome. So Paul paid them a visit;And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome) and he came to them.And there he came across a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by birth, who not long before had come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had given orders that all Jews were to go away from Rome: and he came to them;
Acts 18:3and because he was of the same trade that of tent-maker he lodged with them and worked with them.And because he was of the same occupation, he abode with them, and wrought (for by their occupation they were tent-makers)And because he was of the same trade, he was living with them, and they did their work together; for by trade they were tent-makers.
Acts 18:4But, Sabbath after Sabbath, he preached in the synagogue and tried to win over both Jews and Greeks.And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.And every Sabbath he had discussions in the Synagogue, turning Jews and Greeks to the faith.
Acts 18:5Now at the time when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was preaching fervently and was solemnly telling the Jews that Jesus is the Christ.And when Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in spirit, and testified to the Jews, that Jesus was Christ.And when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was completely given up to the word, preaching to the Jews that the Christ was Jesus.
Acts 18:6But upon their opposing him with abusive language, he shook his clothes by way of protest, and said to them, "Your ruin will be upon your own heads. I am not responsible: in future I will go among the Gentiles."And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said to them, Your blood be upon your own heads: I am clean: from henceforth I will go to the Gentiles.And when they put themselves against him, and said evil words, he said, shaking his clothing, Your blood be on your heads, I am clean: from now I will go to the Gentiles.
Acts 18:7So he left the place and went to the house of a person called Titius Justus, a worshipper of the true God. His house was next door to the synagogue.And he departed thence, and entered into the house of a certain man named Justus, one that worshiped God, whose house joined close to the synagogue.And moving from there, he went into the house of a man named Titus Justus, a God-fearing man, whose house was very near the Synagogue.
Acts 18:8And Crispus, the Warden of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, and so did all his household; and from time to time many of the Corinthians who heard Paul believed and received baptism.And Crispus the chief ruler of the synagogue believed on the Lord with all his house: and many of the Corinthians hearing, believed, and were baptized.And Crispus, the ruler of the Synagogue, with all his family, had faith in the Lord; and a great number of the people of Corinth, hearing the word, had faith and were given baptism.
Acts 18:9And, in a vision by night, the Lord said to Paul, "Dismiss your fears: go on speaking, and do not give up.Then the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:And the Lord said to Paul in the night, in a vision, Have no fear and go on preaching:
Acts 18:10I am with you, and no one shall attack you to injure you; for I have very many people in this city."For I am with thee, and no man shall lay hands on thee, to hurt thee: for I have many people in this city.For I am with you, and no one will make an attack on you to do you damage: for I have a number of people in this town.
Acts 18:11So Paul remained in Corinth for a year and six months, teaching among them the Message of God.And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.And he was there for a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
Acts 18:12But when Gallio became Proconsul of Greece, the Jews with one accord made a dead set at Paul, and brought him before the court.And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment-seat,But when Gallio was ruler of Achaia, all the Jews together made an attack on Paul, and took him to the judge's seat,
Acts 18:13"This man," they said, "is inducing people to offer unlawful worship to God."Saying, This man persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.Saying, This man is teaching the people to give worship to God in a way which is against the law.
Acts 18:14But, when Paul was about to begin his defence, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it had been some wrongful act or piece of cunning knavery I might reasonably have listened to you Jews.And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong, or hainous crime, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:But when Paul was about to say something, Gallio said to the Jews, If this was anything to do with wrongdoing or crime, there would be a reason for me to give you a hearing:
Acts 18:15But since these are questions about words and names and your Law, you yourselves must see to them. I refuse to be a judge in such matters."But if it is a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it: for I will be no judge of such matters.But if it is a question of words or names or of your law, see to it yourselves; I will not be a judge of such things.
Acts 18:16So he ordered them out of court.And he drove them from the judgment-seat.And he sent them away from the judge's seat.
Acts 18:17Then the people all set upon Sosthenes, the Warden of the synagogue, and beat him severely in front of the court. Gallio did not concern himself in the least about this.Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment-seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.And they all made an attack on Sosthenes, the ruler of the Synagogue, and gave him blows before the judge's seat; but Gallio gave no attention to these things.
Acts 18:18After remaining a considerable time longer in Corinth, Paul took leave of the brethren and set sail for Syria; and Priscilla and Aquila were with him. He had shaved his head at Cenchreae, because he was bound by a vow.And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.And Paul, after waiting some days, went away from the brothers and went by ship to Syria, Priscilla and Aquila being with him; and he had had his hair cut off in Cenchrea, for he had taken an oath.
Acts 18:19They put in at Ephesus, and there Paul left his companions behind. As for himself, he went to the synagogue and had a discussion with the Jews.And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.And they came down to Ephesus and he left them there: and he himself went into the Synagogue and had a discussion with the Jews.
Acts 18:20When they asked him to remain longer he did not consent,When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not:And being requested by them to be there for a longer time, he said, No;
Acts 18:21but took leave of them with the promise, "I will return to you, God willing." So he set sail from Ephesus.But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return to you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.And went from them, saying, I will come back to you if God lets me; and he took ship from Ephesus.
Acts 18:22Landing at Caesarea, he went up to Jerusalem and inquired after the welfare of the Church, and then went down to Antioch.And when he had landed at Cesarea, and gone up and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.And when he had come to land at Caesarea, he went to see the church, and then went down to Antioch.
Acts 18:23After spending some time in Antioch, Paul set out on a tour, visiting the whole of Galatia and Phrygia in order, and strengthening all the disciples.And after he had spent some time there, he departed and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.And having been there for some time, he went through the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, making the disciples strong in the faith.
Acts 18:24Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos came to Ephesus. He was a native of Alexandria, a man of great learning and well versed in the Scriptures.And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, and a man of learning, came to Ephesus; and he had great knowledge of the holy Writings.
Acts 18:25He had been instructed by word of mouth in the way of the Lord, and, being full of burning zeal, he used to speak and teach accurately the facts about Jesus, though he knew of no baptism but John's.This man was instructed in the way of the Lord: and being fervent in the spirit, he spoke and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.This man had been trained in the way of the Lord; and burning in spirit, he gave himself up to teaching the facts about Jesus, though he had knowledge only of John's baptism:
Acts 18:26He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, and Priscilla and Aquila, after hearing him, took him home and explained God's way to him more accurately.And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: Whom, when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him to them, and expounded to him the way of God more perfectly.And he was preaching in the Synagogue without fear. But Priscilla and Aquila, hearing his words, took him in, and gave him fuller teaching about the way of God.
Acts 18:27Then, as he had made up his mind to cross over into Greece, the brethren wrote to the disciples in Corinth begging them to give him a kindly welcome. Upon his arrival he rendered valuable help to those who through grace had believed;And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he had come, helped them much who had believed through grace.And when he had a desire to go over into Achaia, the brothers gave him help, and sent letters to the disciples requesting them to take him in among them: and when he had come, he gave much help to those who had faith through grace:
Acts 18:28for he powerfully and in public overcame the Jews in argument, proving to them from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, showing by the scriptures, that Jesus was Christ.For he overcame the Jews in public discussion, making clear from the holy Writings that the Christ was Jesus.
