Acts 22:3"I am a Jew, born at Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I was carefully trained at the feet of Gamaliel in the Law of our forefathers, and, like all of you to-day, was zealous for God.I am verily a man who am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, being zealous towards God, as ye all are this day.*I* am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, at the feet of Gamaliel, educated according to [the] exactness of the law of [our] fathers, being zealous for God, as *ye* are all this day;
Acts 22:4I persecuted to death this new faith, continually binding both men and women and throwing them into prison;And I persecuted this way even to death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.who have persecuted this way unto death, binding and delivering up to prisons both men and women;
Acts 22:5as the High Priest also and all the Elders can bear me witness. It was, too, from them that I received letters to the brethren in Damascus, and I was already on my way to Damascus, intending to bring those also who had fled there, in chains to Jerusalem, to be punished.As also the high priest doth bear me testimony, and all the estate of the elders; from whom also I received letters to the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them who were there bound to Jerusalem, to be punished.as also the high priest bears me witness, and all the elderhood: from whom also, having received letters to the brethren, I went to Damascus to bring those also who were there, bound, to Jerusalem, to be punished.
Acts 22:6"But on my way, when I was now not far from Damascus, about noon a sudden blaze of light from Heaven shone round me.And it came to pass, that as I was passing on my journey, and had come nigh to Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light around me.And it came to pass, as I was journeying and drawing near to Damascus, that, about mid-day, there suddenly shone out of heaven a great light round about me.
Acts 22:7I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me, "`Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?'And I fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?And I fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
Acts 22:8"`Who art thou, Lord?' I asked. "`I am Jesus, the Nazarene,' He replied, `whom you are persecuting.'And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said to me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.And *I* answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said to me, *I* am Jesus the Nazaraean, whom *thou* persecutest.
Acts 22:9"Now the men who were with me, though they saw the light, did not hear the words of Him who spoke to me.And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spoke to me.But they that were with me beheld the light, [and were filled with fear], but heard not the voice of him that was speaking to me.
Acts 22:10And I asked, "`What am I to do, Lord?' "And the Lord said to me, "`Rise, and go into Damascus. There you shall be told of all that has been appointed for you to do.'And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said to me, Arise, and go into Damascus, and there it shall be told thee concerning all things which are appointed for thee to do.And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said to me, Rise up, and go to Damascus, and there it shall be told thee of all things which it is appointed thee to do.
Acts 22:11"And as I could not see because the light had been so dazzling, those who were with me had to lead me by the arm, and so I came to Damascus.And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.And as I could not see, through the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came to Damascus.
Acts 22:12"And a certain Ananias, a pious man who obeyed the Law and bore a good character with all the Jews of the city,And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews who dwelt there,And a certain Ananias, a pious man according to the law, borne witness to by all the Jews who dwelt [there],
Acts 22:13came to me and standing at my side said, "`Brother Saul, recover your sight.' "I instantly regained my sight and looked up at him.Came to me, and stood, and said to me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.coming to me and standing by me, said to me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And *I*, in the same hour, received my sight and saw him.
Acts 22:14Then he said, `The God of our forefathers has appointed you to know His will, and to see the righteous One and hear Him speak.And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldst know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldst hear the voice of his mouth.And he said, The God of our fathers has chosen thee beforehand to know his will, and to see the just one, and to hear a voice out of his mouth;
Acts 22:15For you shall be a witness for Him, to all men, of what you have seen and heard.For thou shalt be his witness to all men of what thou hast seen and heard.for thou shalt be a witness for him to all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
Acts 22:16And now why delay? Rise, get yourself baptized, and wash off your sins, calling upon His name.'And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.And now why lingerest thou? Arise and get baptised, and have thy sins washed away, calling on his name.
Acts 22:17"After my return to Jerusalem, and while praying in the Temple, I fell into a trance.And it came to pass, that when I had come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;And it came to pass when I had returned to Jerusalem, and as I was praying in the temple, that I became in ecstasy,
Acts 22:18I saw Jesus, and He said to me, "`Make haste and leave Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about Me.'And saw him saying to me, Make haste, and depart quickly from Jerusalem; for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.and saw him saying to me, Make haste and go quickly out of Jerusalem, for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.
Acts 22:19"`Lord,' I replied, `they themselves well know how active I was in imprisoning, and in flogging in synagogue after synagogue those who believe in Thee;And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned, and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:And *I* said, Lord, they themselves know that *I* was imprisoning and beating in every synagogue those that believe on thee;
Acts 22:20and when they were shedding the blood of Stephen, Thy witness, I was standing by, fully approving of it, and I held the clothes of those who were killing him.'And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting to his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.and when the blood of thy witness Stephen was shed, I also myself was standing by and consenting, and kept the clothes of them who killed him.
Acts 22:21"`Go,' He replied; `I will send you as an Apostle to nations far away.'"And he said to me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence to the Gentiles.And he said to me, Go, for *I* will send thee to the nations afar off.
Acts 22:22Until they heard this last statement the people listened to Paul, but now with a roar of disapproval they cried out, "Away with such a fellow from the earth! He ought not to be allowed to live."And they gave him audience to this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a man from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.And they heard him until this word, and lifted up their voice, saying, Away with such a one as that from the earth, for it was not fit he should live.
Acts 22:23And when they continued their furious shouts, throwing their clothes into the air and flinging dust about,And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,And as they were crying, and throwing away their clothes, and casting dust into the air,
Acts 22:24the Tribune ordered him to be brought into the barracks, and be examined by flogging, in order to ascertain the reason why they thus cried out against him.The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know for what cause they cried so against him.the chiliarch commanded him to be brought into the fortress, saying that he should be examined by scourging, that he might ascertain for what cause they cried thus against him.
Acts 22:25But, when they had tied him up with the straps, Paul said to the Captain who stood by, "Does the Law permit you to flog a Roman citizen and one too who is uncondemned?"And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said to the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?But as they stretched him forward with the thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood [by], Is it lawful for you to scourge a man [who is] a Roman and uncondemned?
Acts 22:26On hearing this question, the Captain went to report the matter to the Tribune. "What are you intending to do?" he said. "This man is a Roman citizen."When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest; for this man is a Roman.And the centurion, having heard it, went and reported it to the chiliarch, saying, What art thou going to do? for this man is a Roman.
Acts 22:27So the Tribune came to Paul and asked him, "Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?" "Yes," he said.Then the chief captain came, and said to him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yes.And the chiliarch coming up said to him, Tell me, Art *thou* a Roman? And he said, Yes.
Acts 22:28"I paid a large sum for my citizenship," said the Tribune. "But I was born free," said Paul.And the chief captain answered, With a great sum I obtained this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.And the chiliarch answered, *I*, for a great sum, bought this citizenship. And Paul said, But *I* was also [free] born.
Acts 22:29So the men who had been on the point of putting him under torture immediately left him. And the Tribune, too, was frightened when he learnt that Paul was a Roman citizen, for he had had him bound.Then forthwith they departed from him who were about to examine him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.Immediately therefore those who were going to examine him left him, and the chiliarch also was afraid when he ascertained that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.
Acts 22:30The next day, wishing to know exactly what charge was being brought against him by the Jews, the Tribune ordered his chains to be removed; and, having sent word to the High Priests and all the Sanhedrin to assemble, he brought Paul down and made him stand before them.On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty why he was accused by the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.And on the morrow, desirous to know the certainty [of the matter] why he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him, and commanded the chief priests and all the council to meet, and having brought Paul down set him before them.
