Acts 24:1Five days after this, Ananias the High Priest came down to Caesarea with a number of Elders and a pleader called Tertullus. They stated to the Governor the case against Paul.And after five days, Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.After five days, the high priest, Ananias, came down with certain elders and an orator, one Tertullus. They informed the governor against Paul.
Acts 24:2So Paul was sent for, and Tertullus began to impeach him as follows: "Indebted as we are," he said, "to you, most noble Felix, for the perfect peace which we enjoy, and for reforms which your wisdom has introduced to this nation,And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done to this nation by thy providence,When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, "Seeing that by you we enjoy much peace, and that excellent measures are coming to this nation,
Acts 24:3in every instance and in every place we accept them with profound gratitude.We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.
Acts 24:4But not to detain you too long I beg you in your forbearance to listen to a brief statement from us.Notwithstanding, that I may not be further tedious to thee, I pray thee, that thou wouldst of thy clemency hear us a few words.But, that I don't delay you, I entreat you to bear with us and hear a few words.
Acts 24:5For we have found this man Paul a source of mischief and a disturber of the peace among all the Jews throughout the Empire, and a ringleader in the heresy of the Nazarenes.For we have found this a pestilent man, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ring-leader of the sect of the Nazarenes:For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.
Acts 24:6He even attempted to profane the Temple, but we arrested him.Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.He even tried to profane the temple. We arrested him.
Acts 24:7[]But the chief captain Lysias came and with great violence took him out of our hands,
Acts 24:8You, however, by examining him, will yourself be able to learn the truth as to all this which we allege against him."Commanding his accusers to come to thee: by examining whom, thou thyself mayest take knowledge of all these things of which we accuse him.By examining him yourself you may ascertain all these things of which we accuse him."
Acts 24:9The Jews also joined in the charge, maintaining that these were facts.And the Jews also assented, saying, that these things were so.The Jews also joined in the attack, affirming that these things were so.
Acts 24:10Then, at a sign from the Governor, Paul answered, "Knowing, Sir, that for many years you have administered justice to this nation, I cheerfully make my defence.Then Paul, after the governor had beckoned to him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been for many years a judge to this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:When the governor had beckoned to him to speak, Paul answered, "Because I know that you have been a judge of this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defense,
Acts 24:11For you have it in your power to ascertain that it is not more than twelve days ago that I went up to worship in Jerusalem;That thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem to worship.seeing that you can recognize that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem.
Acts 24:12and that neither in the Temple nor in the synagogues, nor anywhere in the city, did they find me disputing with any opponent or collecting a crowd about me.And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither exciting the people to sedition, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:In the temple they didn't find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the synagogues, or in the city.
Acts 24:13Nor can they prove the charges which they are now bringing against me.Neither can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.Nor can they prove to you the things whereof they now accuse me.
Acts 24:14But this I confess to you that in the way which they style a heresy, I worship the God of our forefathers, believing everything that is taught in the Law or is written in the Prophets,But this I confess to thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:But this I confess to you, that after the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets;
Acts 24:15and having a hope directed towards God, which my accusers themselves also entertain, that before long there will be a resurrection both of the righteous and the unrighteous.And have hope towards God, which they themselves also allow, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
Acts 24:16This too is my own earnest endeavour always to have a clear conscience in relation to God and man.And in this I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offense towards God, and towards men.Herein I also practice always having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.
Acts 24:17"Now after an interval of several years I came to bring alms to my nation, and to offer sacrifices.Now after many years, I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings.Now after some years, I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings;
Acts 24:18While I was busy about these, they found me in the Temple purified, with no crowd around me and no uproar; but there were certain Jews from the province of Asia.Upon which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult.amid which they found me purified in the temple, with no crowd, nor yet with tumult. But certain Jews from Asia
Acts 24:19They ought to have been here before you, and to have been my prosecutors, if they have any charge to bring against me.Who ought to have been here before thee, and object if they had aught against me.who ought to have been here before you, and to make accusation, if they had anything against me.
Acts 24:20Or let these men themselves say what misdemeanour they found me guilty of when I stood before the Sanhedrin,Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil-doing in me, while I stood before the council,Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council,
Acts 24:21unless it was in that one expression which I made use of when I shouted out as I stood among them, "`The resurrection of the dead is the thing about which I am on my trial before you to-day.'"Except it is for this one voice, that I cried, standing among them, Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing among them, 'Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged before you today!'"
Acts 24:22At this point Felix, who was fairly well informed about the new faith, adjourned the trial, saying to the Jews, "When the Tribune Lysias comes down, I will enter carefully into the matter."And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, "When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case."
Acts 24:23And he gave orders to the Captain that Paul was to be kept in custody, but be treated with indulgence, and that his personal friends were not to be prevented from showing him kindness.And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister, or come to him.He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody, and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him.
Acts 24:24Not long after this, Felix came with Drusilla his wife, a Jewess, and sending for Paul, listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus.And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.But after some days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus.
Acts 24:25But when he dealt with the subjects of justice, self-control, and the judgement which was soon to come, Felix became alarmed and said, "For the present leave me, and when I can find a convenient opportunity I will send for you."And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, depart for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, "Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will call you to me."
Acts 24:26At the same time he hoped that Paul would give him money; and for this reason he sent for him the oftener to converse with him.He hoped also that money would have been given him by Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.He hoped that way that money would be given to him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore also he sent for him more often, and talked with him.
Acts 24:27But after the lapse of fully two years Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and being desirous of gratifying the Jews, Felix left Paul still in prison.But after two years Porcius Festus came as successor to Felix: and Felix willing to show the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.
