Matthew 15:1Then there came to Jesus a party of Pharisees and Scribes from Jerusalem, who inquired,Then Pharisees and scribes come to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying,Then there come to Jesus from Jerusalem Pharisees and scribes, saying,
Matthew 15:2"Why do your disciples transgress the tradition of the Elders by not washing their hands before meals?""Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don't wash their hands when they eat bread."Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
Matthew 15:3"Why do you, too," He retorted, "transgress God's commands for the sake of your tradition?He answered them, "Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?And he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?
Matthew 15:4For God said, `Honour thy father and thy mother'; and `Let him who reviles father or mother be certainly put to death';For God commanded, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.'For God said, Honor thy father and thy mother: and, He that speaketh evil of father or mother, let him die the death.
Matthew 15:5but you this is what you say: `If a man says to his father or mother, That is consecrated, whatever it is, which otherwise you should have received from meBut you say, 'Whoever will tell his father or his mother, "Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God,"But ye say, whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, That wherewith thou mightest have been profited by me is given [to God];
Matthew 15:6he shall be absolved from honouring his father'; and so you have abrogated God's Word for the sake of your tradition.he will not honor his father or mother.' You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition.he shall not honor his father. And ye have made void the word of God because of your tradition.
Matthew 15:7Hypocrites! well did Isaiah prophesy of you,You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
Matthew 15:8"`This is a People who honour Me with their lips, while their heart is far away from Me;'These people draw near to me with their mouth, And honor me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.This people honoreth me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.
Matthew 15:9but it is in vain they worship Me, while they lay down precepts which are mere human rules.'"But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as doctrine rules made by men.'"But in vain do they worship me, Teaching [as their] doctrines the precepts of men.
Matthew 15:10Then, when He had called the people to Him, Jesus said, "Hear and understand.He called the multitude to himself, and said to them, "Hear, and understand.And he called to him the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
Matthew 15:11It is not what goes into a man's mouth that defiles him; but it is what comes out of his mouth *that* defiles a man."That which enters into the mouth doesn't defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."Not that which entereth into the mouth defileth the man; but that which proceedeth out of the mouth, this defileth the man.
Matthew 15:12Then His disciples came and said to Him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were greatly shocked when they heard those words?"Then the disciples came, and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?"Then came the disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?
Matthew 15:13"Every plant," He replied, "which my Heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up.But he answered, "Every plant which my heavenly Father didn't plant will be uprooted.But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father planted not, shall be rooted up.
Matthew 15:14Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind; and if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into some pit."Let them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit."Let them alone: they are blind guides. And if the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a pit.
Matthew 15:15"Explain to us this figurative language," said Peter.Peter answered him, "Explain the parable to us."And Peter answered and said unto him, Declare unto us the parable.
Matthew 15:16"Are even you," He answered, "still without intellingence?So Jesus said, "Do you also still not understand?And he said, Are ye also even yet without understanding?
Matthew 15:17Do you not understand that whatever enters the mouth passes into the stomach and is afterwards ejected from the body?Don't you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body?Perceive ye not, that whatsoever goeth into the mouth passeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
Matthew 15:18But the things that come out of the mouth proceed from the heart, and it is these that defile the man.But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart, and they defile the man.But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man.
Matthew 15:19For out of the heart proceed wicked thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, impiety of speech.For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings:
Matthew 15:20These are the things which defile the man; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile."These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn't defile the man."these are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not the man.
Matthew 15:21Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew into the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon.Jesus went out from there, and withdrew into the parts of Tyre and Sidon.And Jesus went out thence, and withdrew into the parts of Tyre and Sidon.
Matthew 15:22Here a Canaanitish woman of the district came out and persistently cried out, "Sir, Son of David, pity me; my daughter is cruelly harassed by a demon."Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David. My daughter is grievously vexed with a demon."And behold, a Canaanitish woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a demon.
Matthew 15:23But He answered her not a word. Then the disciples interposed, and begged Him, saying, "Send her away because she keeps crying behind us."But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away; for she cries after us."But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
Matthew 15:24"I have only been sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel," He replied.But he answered, "I wasn't sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel."But he answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Matthew 15:25Then she came and threw herself at His feet and entreated Him. "O Sir, help me," she said.But she came and worshipped him, saying, "Lord, help me."But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
Matthew 15:26"It is not right," He said, "to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."But he answered, "It is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."And he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs.
Matthew 15:27"Be it so, Sir," she said, "for even the dogs eat the scraps which fall from their masters' tables."But she said, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."But she said, Yea, Lord: for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
Matthew 15:28"O woman," replied Jesus, "great is your faith: be it done to you as you desire." And from that moment her daughter was restored to health.Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that hour.Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it done unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that hour.
Matthew 15:29Again, moving thence, Jesus went along by the Lake of Galilee; and ascending the hill, He sat down there.Jesus departed there, and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there.And Jesus departed thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there.
Matthew 15:30Soon great crowds came to Him, bringing with them those who were crippled in feet or hands, blind or dumb, and many besides, and they hastened to lay them at His feet. And He cured them,There came to him great multitudes, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them,And there came unto him great multitudes, having with them the lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and they cast them down at this feet; and he healed them:
Matthew 15:31so that the people were amazed to see the dumb speaking, the maimed with their hands perfect, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they gave the glory to the God of Israel.so that the multitude wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the injured whole, lame walking, and the blind seeing and they glorified the God of Israel.insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb speaking, the maimed whole, and lame walking, and the blind seeing: and they glorified the God of Israel.
Matthew 15:32But Jesus called His disciples to Him and said, "My heart yearns over this mass of people, for it is now the third day that they have been with me and they have nothing to eat. I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they should faint on the road."Jesus called his disciples to him, and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don't want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way."And Jesus called unto him his disciples, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat: and I would not send them away fasting, lest haply they faint on the way.
Matthew 15:33"Where can we," asked the disciples, "get bread enough in this remote place to satisfy so vast a multitude?"The disciples said to him, "Where should we get so many loaves in a desert place as to fill so great a multitude?"And the disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so many loaves in a desert place as to fill so great a multitude?
Matthew 15:34"How many loaves have you?" Jesus asked. "Seven," they said, "and a few small fish."Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" They said, "Seven, and a few small fish."And Jesus said unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few small fishes.
Matthew 15:35So He bade all the people sit down on the ground,He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;
Matthew 15:36and He took the seven loaves and the fish, and after giving thanks He broke them up and then distributed them to the disciples, and they to the people.and he took the seven loaves and the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.and he took the seven loaves and the fishes; and he gave thanks and brake, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.
Matthew 15:37And they all ate and were satisfied. The broken portions that remained over they took up seven full hampers.They all ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, seven baskets full.
Matthew 15:38Those who ate were 4,000 adult men, without reckoning women and children.Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.And they that did eat were four thousand men, besides women and children.
Matthew 15:39He then dismissed the people, went on board the boat, and came into the district of Magadan.He sent away the multitudes, and entered into the boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.And he sent away the multitudes, and entered into the boat, and came into the borders of Magadan.
