Matthew 13:1That same day Jesus had left the house and was sitting on the shore of the Lake,On that day Jesus went out of the house, and sat by the seaside.And that [same] day Jesus went out from the house and sat down by the sea.
Matthew 13:2when a vast multitude of people crowded round Him. He therefore went on board a boat and sat there, while all the people stood on the shore.Great multitudes gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat, and sat, and all the multitude stood on the beach.And great crowds were gathered together to him, so that going on board ship himself he sat down, and the whole crowd stood on the shore.
Matthew 13:3He then spoke many things to them in figurative language. "The sower goes out," He said, "to sow.He spoke to them many things in parables, saying, "Behold, the farmer went forth to sow.And he spoke to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went out to sow:
Matthew 13:4As he sows, some of the seed falls by the way-side, and the birds come and peck it up.As he sowed, some seeds fell by the roadside, and the birds came and devoured them.and as he sowed, some [grains] fell along the way, and the birds came and devoured them;
Matthew 13:5Some falls on rocky ground, where it has but scanty soil. It quickly shows itself above ground, because it has no depth of earth;Others fell on rocky ground, where they didn't have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth.and others fell upon the rocky places where they had not much earth, and immediately they sprang up out of [the ground] because of not having [any] depth of earth,
Matthew 13:6but when the sun is risen, it is scorched by the heat, and through having no root it withers up.When the sun had risen, they were scorched. Because they had no root, they withered away.but when the sun rose they were burned up, and because of not having [any] root were dried up;
Matthew 13:7Some falls among the thorns; but the thorns spring up and stifle it.Others fell on thorns. The thorns grew up and choked them:and others fell upon the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them;
Matthew 13:8But a portion falls upon good ground, and gives a return, some a hundred for one, some sixty, some thirty.and others fell on good soil, and yielded fruit: some one hundred times, some sixty, and some thirty.and others fell upon the good ground, and produced fruit, one a hundred, one sixty, and one thirty.
Matthew 13:9Listen, every one who has ears!"He who has ears to hear, let him hear."He that has ears, let him hear.
Matthew 13:10(And His disciples came and asked Him, "Why do you speak to them in figurative language?"The disciples came, and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?"And the disciples came up and said to him, Why speakest thou to them in parables?
Matthew 13:11"Because," He replied, "while to you it is granted to know the secrets of the Kingdom of the Heavens, to them it is not.He answered them, "To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them.And he answering said to them, Because to you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given;
Matthew 13:12For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall have abundance; but whoever has not, from him even what he has shall be taken away.For whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have abundance, but whoever doesn't have, from him will be taken away even that which he has.for whoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall be caused to be in abundance; but he who has not, even what he has shall be taken away from him.
Matthew 13:13I speak to them in figurative language for this reason, that while looking they do not see, and while hearing they neither hear nor understand.Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they don't see, and hearing, they don't hear, neither do they understand.For this cause I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear nor understand;
Matthew 13:14And in regard to them the prophecy of Isaiah is receiving signal fulfilment: "`You will hear and hear and by no means understand, and you will look and look and by no means see.In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'By hearing you will hear, and will in no way understand; Seeing you will see, and will in no way perceive:and in them is filled up the prophecy of Esaias, which says, Hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand, and beholding ye shall behold and not see;
Matthew 13:15For this people's mind is stupefied, their hearing has become dull, and their eyes they have closed; to prevent their ever seeing with their eyes, or hearing with their ears, or understanding with their minds, and turning back, so that I might heal them.'For this people's heart has grown callous, Their ears are dull of hearing, Their eyes they have closed; Or else perhaps they might perceive with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their heart, And should turn again; And I would heal them.'for the heart of this people has grown fat, and they have heard heavily with their ears, and they have closed their eyes as asleep, lest they should see with the eyes, and hear with the ears, and understand with the heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Matthew 13:16"But as for you, blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear."But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.But blessed are *your* eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear;
Matthew 13:17For I solemnly tell you that many Prophets and holy men have longed to see the sights you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the words you hear, and have not heard them.For most assuredly I tell you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which you see, and didn't see them; and to hear the things which you hear, and didn't hear them.for verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous [men] have desired to see the things which ye behold and did not see [them], and to hear the things which ye hear and did not hear [them].
Matthew 13:18"To you then I will explain the parable of the Sower."Hear, then, the parable of the farmer.*Ye*, therefore, hear the parable of the sower.
Matthew 13:19When a man hears the Message concerning the Kingdom and does not understand it, the Evil one comes and catches away what has been sown in his heart. This is he who has received the seed by the road-side.When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and doesn't understand it, the evil one comes, and snatches away that which has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown by the roadside.From every one who hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand [it], the wicked one comes and catches away what was sown in his heart: this is he that is sown by the wayside.
Matthew 13:20He who has received the seed on the rocky ground is the man who hears the Message and immediately receives it with joy.What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the word, and immediately with joy receives it;But he that is sown on the rocky places this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy,
Matthew 13:21It has struck no root, however, within him. He continues for a time, but when suffering comes, or persecution, because of the Message, he at once stumbles and falls.yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.but has no root in himself, but is for a time only; and when tribulation or persecution happens on account of the word, he is immediately offended.
Matthew 13:22He who has received the seed among the thorns is the man who hears the Message, but the cares of the present age and the delusions of riches quite stifle the Message, and it becomes unfruitful.What was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.And he that is sown among the thorns this is he who hears the word, and the anxious care of this life, and the deceit of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
Matthew 13:23But he who has received the seed on good ground is he who hears and understands. Such hearers give a return, and yield one a hundred for one, another sixty, another thirty.")What was sown on the good ground, this is he who hears the word, and understands it, who most assuredly bears fruit, and brings forth, some one hundred times, some sixty, some thirty."But he that is sown upon the good ground this is he who hears and understands the word, who bears fruit also, and produces, one a hundred, one sixty, and one thirty.
Matthew 13:24Another parable He put before them. "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "may be compared to a man who has sown good seed in his field,He set another parable before them, saying, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field,Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has become like a man sowing good seed in his field;
Matthew 13:25but during the night his enemy comes, and over the first seed he sows darnel among the wheat, and goes away.but while people slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel also among the wheat, and went away.but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel amongst the wheat, and went away.
Matthew 13:26But when the blade shoots up and the grain is formed, then appears the darnel also.But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then the darnel appeared also.But when the blade shot up and produced fruit, then appeared the darnel also.
Matthew 13:27"So the farmer's men come and ask him, "`Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed on your land? Where then does the darnel come from?'The servants of the householder came and said to him, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where did this darnel come from?'And the bondmen of the householder came up and said to him, Sir, hast thou not sown good seed in thy field? whence then has it darnel?
Matthew 13:28"`Some enemy has done this,' he said. "`Shall we go, and collect it?' the men inquire.He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and gather them up?'And he said to them, A man [that is] an enemy has done this. And the bondmen said to him, Wilt thou then that we should go and gather it [up]?
Matthew 13:29"`No,' he replied, `for fear that while collecting the darnel you should at the same time root up the wheat with it.But he said, 'No, lest perhaps while you gather up the darnel, you root up the wheat with them.But he said, No; lest [in] gathering the darnel ye should root up the wheat with it.
Matthew 13:30Leave both to grow together until the harvest, and at harvest-time I will direct the reapers, Collect the darnel first, and make it up into bundles to burn it, but bring all the wheat into my barn.'"Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest time I will tell the reapers, "First, gather up the darnel, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn."'"Suffer both to grow together unto the harvest, and in time of the harvest I will say to the harvestmen, Gather first the darnel, and bind it into bundles to burn it; but the wheat bring together into my granary.
Matthew 13:31Another parable He put before them. "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "is like a mustard-seed, which a man takes and sows in his ground.He set another parable before them, saying, "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field;Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like a grain of mustard [seed] which a man took and sowed in his field;
Matthew 13:32It is the smallest of all seeds, and yet when full-grown it is larger than any herb and forms a tree, so that the birds come and build in its branches."which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches."which is less indeed than all seeds, but when it is grown is greater than herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of heaven come and roost in its branches.
Matthew 13:33Another parable He spoke to them. "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "is like yeast which a woman takes and buries in a bushel of flour, for it to work there till the whole mass has risen."He spoke another parable to them. "The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened."He spoke another parable to them: The kingdom of the heavens is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until it had been all leavened.
Matthew 13:34All this Jesus spoke to the people in figurative language, and except in figurative language He spoke nothing to them,Jesus spoke all these things in parables to the multitudes; and without a parable, he didn't speak to them,All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and without a parable he did not speak to them,
Matthew 13:35in fulfilment of the saying of the Prophet, "I will open my mouth in figurative language, I will utter things kept hidden since the creation of all things."that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, "I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world."so that that should be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from [the] world's foundation.
Matthew 13:36When He had dismissed the people and had returned to the house, His disciples came to Him with the request, "Explain to us the parable of the darnel sown in the field."Then Jesus sent the multitudes away, and went into the house. His disciples came to him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the darnel of the field."Then, having dismissed the crowds, he went into the house; and his disciples came to him, saying, Expound to us the parable of the darnel of the field.
Matthew 13:37"The sower of the good seed," He replied, "is the Son of Man;He answered them, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man,But he answering said, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man,
Matthew 13:38the field is the world; the good seed these are the sons of the Kingdom; the darnel, the sons of the Evil one.the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the darnel are the sons of the evil one.and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, but the darnel are the sons of the evil [one];
Matthew 13:39The enemy who sows the darnel is *the Devil*; the harvest is the Close of the Age; the reapers are the angels.The enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.and the enemy who has sowed it is the devil; and the harvest is [the] completion of [the] age, and the harvestmen are angels.
Matthew 13:40As then the darnel is collected together and burnt up with fire, so will it be at the Close of the Age.As therefore the darnel is gathered up and burned with fire; so will it be in the end of this age.As then the darnel is gathered and is burned in the fire, thus it shall be in the completion of the age.
Matthew 13:41The Son of Man will commission His angels, and they will gather out of His Kingdom all causes of sin and all who violate His laws;The Son of Man will send forth his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all things that cause stumbling, and those who do iniquity,The Son of man shall send his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all offences, and those that practise lawlessness;
Matthew 13:42and these they will throw into the fiery furnace. There will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth.and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and the gnashing of teeth.and they shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:43Then will the righteous shine out like the sun in their Father's Kingdom. Listen, every one who has ears!Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.Then the righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that has ears, let him hear.
Matthew 13:44"The Kingdom of the Heavens is like treasure buried in the open country, which a man finds, but buries again, and, in his joy about it, goes and sells all he has and buys that piece of ground."The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.The kingdom of the heavens is like a treasure hid in the field, which a man having found has hid, and for the joy of it goes and sells all whatever he has, and buys that field.
Matthew 13:45"Again the Kingdom of the Heavens is like a jewel merchant who is in quest of choice pearls."Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls,Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls;
Matthew 13:46He finds one most costly pearl; he goes away; and though it costs all he has, he buys it.who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.and having found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all whatever he had and bought it.
Matthew 13:47"Again the Kingdom of the Heavens is like a draw-net let down into the sea, which encloses fish of all sorts."Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a dragnet, that was cast into the sea, and gathered some fish of every kind,Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a seine which has been cast into the sea, and which has gathered together of every kind,
Matthew 13:48When full, they haul it up on the beach, and sit down and collect the good fish in baskets, while the worthless they throw away.which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach. They sat down, and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away.which, when it has been filled, having drawn up on the shore and sat down, they gathered the good into vessels and cast the worthless out.
Matthew 13:49So will it be at the Close of the Age. The angels will go forth and separate the wicked from among the righteous,So will it be in the end of the world. The angels will come forth, and separate the wicked from among the righteous,Thus shall it be in the completion of the age: the angels shall go forth and sever the wicked from the midst of the just,
Matthew 13:50and will throw them into the fiery furnace. There will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth."and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth."and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 13:51"Have you understood all this?" He asked. "Yes," they said.Jesus said to them, "Have you understood all these things?" They answered him, "Yes, Lord."Jesus says to them, Have ye understood all these things? They say to him, Yea, [Lord].
Matthew 13:52"Therefore," He said, "remember that every Scribe well trained for the Kingdom of the Heavens is like a householder who brings out of his storehouse new things and old."He said to them, "Therefore, every scribe who has been made a disciple to the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings forth out of his treasure new and old things."And he said to them, For this reason every scribe discipled to the kingdom of the heavens is like a man [that is] a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.
Matthew 13:53Jesus concluded this series of parables and then departed.It happened, when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.And it came to pass when Jesus had finished these parables he withdrew thence.
Matthew 13:54And He came into His own country and proceeded to teach in their synagogue, so that they were filled with astonishment and exclaimed, "Where did he obtain such wisdom, and these wondrous powers?Coming into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so much that they were astonished, and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom, and these mighty works?And having come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, Whence has this [man] this wisdom and these works of power?
Matthew 13:55Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers, James, Joseph, Simon and Judah?Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother called Mary, and his brothers, James, Joses, Simon, and Judas?Is not this the son of the carpenter? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?
Matthew 13:56And his sisters are they not all living here among us? Where then did he get all this?"Aren't all of his sisters with us? Where, then did this man get all of these things?"And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then has this [man] all these things?
Matthew 13:57So they turned angrily away from Him. But Jesus said to them, "There is no prophet left without honour except in his own country and among his own family."They were offended by him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and in his own house."And they were offended in him. And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, unless in his country and in his house.
Matthew 13:58And He performed but few mighty deeds there because of their want of faith.He didn't do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.And he did not there many works of power, because of their unbelief.
