Luke 9:2and sent them out to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to cure the sick.He sent them forth to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
Luke 9:3And He commanded them, "Take nothing for your journey; neither stick nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have an extra under garment. He said to them, "Take nothing for your journey neither staffs, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats apiece. And he said to them: Take nothing for your journey; neither staff, nor scrip, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats.
Luke 9:4Whatever house you enter, make that your home, and from it start afresh.Into whatever house you enter, stay there, and depart from there. And whatsoever house you shall enter into, abide there, and depart not from thence.
Luke 9:5Wherever they refuse to receive you, as you leave that town shake off the very dust from your feet as a protest against them."As many as don't receive you, when you depart from that city, shake off even the dust from your feet for a testimony against them."And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off even the dust of your feet, for a testimony against them.
Luke 9:6So they departed and visited village after village, spreading the Good News and performing cures everywhere. They departed, and went throughout the villages, preaching the gospel, and healing everywhere. And going out, they went about through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.
Luke 9:7Now Herod the Tetrarch heard of all that was going on; and he was bewildered because of its being said by some that John had come back to life,Now Herod, the tetrarch, heard of all that was done by him; and he was very perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead,Now Herod, the tetrarch, heard of all things that were done by him; and he was in a doubt, because it was said
Luke 9:8by others that Elijah had appeared, and by others that some one of the ancient Prophets had come back to life.and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again.By some, that John was risen from the dead: but by other some, that Elias had appeared; and by others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.
Luke 9:9And Herod said, "John I have beheaded; but who is this, of whom I hear such reports?" And he sought for an opportunity of seeing Jesus.Herod said, "John I beheaded, but who is this, about whom I hear such things?" He sought to see him.And Herod said: John I have beheaded; but who is this of whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him.
Luke 9:10The Apostles, on their return, related to Jesus all they had done. Then He took them and withdrew to a quiet retreat, to a town called Bethsaida. The apostles, when they had returned, told him what things they had done. He took them, and withdrew apart to a deserted place of a city called Bethsaida. And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all they had done. And taking them, he went aside into a desert place, apart, which belongeth to Bethsaida.
Luke 9:11But the immense crowd, aware of this, followed Him; and receiving them kindly He proceeded to speak to them of the Kingdom of God, and those who needed to be restored to health, He cured. But the multitudes, perceiving it, followed him. He welcomed them, and spoke to them of the kingdom of God, and he cured those who needed healing.Which when the people knew, they followed him; and he received them, and spoke to them of the kingdom of God, and healed them who had need of healing.
Luke 9:12Now when the day began to decline, the Twelve came to Him and said, "Send the people away, that they may go to the villages and farms round about and find lodging and a supply of food; because here we are in an uninhabited district."The day began to wear away; and the twelve came, and said to him, "Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding villages and farms, and lodge, and get provisions, for we are here in a desert place."Now the day began to decline. And the twelve came and said to him: Send away the multitude, that going into the towns and villages round about, they may lodge and get victuals; for we are here in a desert place.
Luke 9:13"You yourselves," He said, "must give them food." "We have nothing," they replied, "but five loaves and a couple of fish, unless indeed we were to go and buy provisions for all this host of people."But he said to them, "You give them something to eat." They said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we should go and buy food for all these people."But he said to them: Give you them to eat. And they said: We have no more than five loaves and two fishes; unless perhaps we should go and buy food for all this multitude.
Luke 9:14(For there were about 5,000 adult men.) But He said to His disciples, "Make them sit down in parties of about fifty each."For they were about five thousand men. He said to his disciples, "Make them sit down in groups of about fifty each."Now there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples: Make them sit down by fifties in a company.
Luke 9:15They did so, making them all, without exception, sit down. They did so, and made them all sit down. And they did so; and made them all sit down.
Luke 9:16Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to Heaven He blessed them and broke them into portions which He gave to the disciples to distribute to the people. He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to the sky, he blessed them, and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude. And taking the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed them; and he broke, and distributed to his disciples, to set before the multitude.
Luke 9:17So they ate and were fully satisfied, all of them; and what they had remaining over was gathered up, twelve baskets of fragments. They ate, and were all filled. They gathered up twelve baskets of broken pieces that were left over. And they did all eat, and were filled. And there were taken up of fragments that remained to them, twelve baskets.
Luke 9:18One day when He was praying by Himself the disciples were present; and He asked them, "Who do the people say that I am?"It happened, as he was praying alone, the disciples were with him, and he asked them, "Who do the multitudes say that I am?"And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples also were with him: and he asked them, saying: Whom do the people say that I am?
Luke 9:19"John the Baptist," they replied; "but others say Elijah; and others that some one of the ancient Prophets has come back to life."They answered, "'John the Baptizer,' but others say, 'Elijah,' and others, that one of the old prophets is risen again."But they answered, and said: John the Baptist; but some say Elias; and others say that one of the former prophets is risen again.
Luke 9:20"But you," He asked, "who do you say that I am?" "God's Anointed One," replied Peter. He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "The Christ of God."And he said to them: But whom do you say that I am? Simon Peter answering, said: The Christ of God.
Luke 9:21And Jesus strictly forbad them to tell this to any one;But he warned them, and commanded them to tell this to no one,But he strictly charging them, commanded they should tell this to no man.
Luke 9:22and He said, "The Son of Man must suffer much cruelty, be rejected by the Elders and High Priests and Scribes, and be put to death, and on the third day be raised to life again."saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up."Saying: The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the ancients and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day rise again.
Luke 9:23And He said to all, "If any one is desirous of following me, let him ignore self and take up his cross day by day, and so be my follower. He said to all, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.And he said to all: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Luke 9:24For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake shall save it.For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same will save it.For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it; for he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall save it.
Luke 9:25Why, what benefit is it to a man to have gained the whole world, but to have lost or forfeited his own self. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits his own self? For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, and cast away himself?
Luke 9:26For whoever shall have been ashamed of me and my teachings, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own and the Father's glory and in that of the holy angels. For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of himself, of the Father, and of the holy angels. For he that shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man shall be ashamed, when he shall come in his majesty, and that of his Father, and of the holy angels.
Luke 9:27I tell you truly that there are some of those who stand here who will certainly not taste death till they have seen the Kingdom of God."But I tell you the truth: There are some of those who stand here, who will in no way taste of death, until they see the kingdom of God."But I tell you of a truth: There are some standing here that shall not taste death, till they see the kingdom of God.
Luke 9:28It was about eight days after this that Jesus, taking with Him Peter, John, and James, went up the mountain to pray.It happened about eight days after these sayings, that he took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up onto the mountain to pray. And it came to pass about eight days after these words, that he took Peter, and James, and John, and went up into a mountain to pray.
Luke 9:29And while He was praying the appearance of His face underwent a change, and His clothing became white and radiant. As he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became white and dazzling. And whilst he prayed, the shape of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became white and glittering.
Luke 9:30And suddenly there were two men conversing with Him, who were Moses and Elijah.Behold, two men talked with him, who were Moses and Elijah,And behold two men were talking with him. And they were Moses and Elias,
Luke 9:31They came in glory, and kept speaking about His death, which He was so soon to undergo in Jerusalem.who appeared in glory, and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.Appearing in majesty. And they spoke of his decease that he should accomplish in Jerusalem.
Luke 9:32Now Peter and the others were weighed down with sleep; but, keeping themselves awake all through, they saw His glory, and the two men standing with Him.Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him.But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep. And waking, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
Luke 9:33And when they were preparing to depart from Him, Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, we are thankful to you that we are here. Let us put up three tents one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." He did not know what he was saying. It happened, as they were parting from him, that Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here. Let's make three tents: one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah," not knowing what he said. And it came to pass, that as they were departing from him, Peter saith to Jesus: Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias; not knowing what he said.
Luke 9:34But while he was thus speaking, there came a cloud which spread over them; and they were awe-struck when they had entered into the cloud. While he said these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered into the cloud. And as he spoke these things, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them; and they were afraid, when they entered into the cloud.
Luke 9:35Then there came a voice from within the cloud: "This is My Son, My Chosen One: listen to Him."A voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!"And a voice came out of the cloud, saying: This is my beloved Son; hear him.
Luke 9:36After this voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They kept it to themselves, and said not a word to any one at that time about what they had seen. When the voice came, Jesus was found alone. They were silent, and told no one in those days any of the things which they had seen. And whilst the voice was uttered, Jesus was found alone. And they held their peace, and told no man in those days any of these things which they had seen.
Luke 9:37On the following day, when they were come down from the mountain, a great crowd came to meet Him;It happened on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a great multitude met him.And it came to pass the day following, when they came down from the mountain, there met him a great multitude.
Luke 9:38and a man from the crowd called out, "Rabbi, I beg you to pity my son, for he is my only child.Behold, a man from the crowd called out, saying, "Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child. And behold a man among the crowd cried out, saying: Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son, because he is my only one.
Luke 9:39At times a spirit seizes him and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him, and makes him foam at the mouth, and does not leave him till it has well-nigh covered him with bruises.Behold, a spirit takes him, he suddenly cries out, and it convulses him so that he foams, and it hardly departs from him, bruising him severely. And lo, a spirit seizeth him, and he suddenly crieth out, and he throweth him down and teareth him, so that he foameth; and bruising him, he hardly departeth from him.
Luke 9:40I entreated your disciples to expel the spirit, but they could not."I begged your disciples to cast it out, and they couldn't."And I desired thy disciples to cast him out, and they could not.
Luke 9:41"O unbelieving and perverse generation!" replied Jesus; "how long shall I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here to me."Jesus answered, "Faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here."And Jesus answering, said: O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring hither thy son.
Luke 9:42Now while the youth was coming, the spirit dashed him to the ground and cruelly convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the foul spirit, and cured the youth and gave him back to his father. While he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him violently. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. And as he was coming to him, the devil threw him down, and tore him.
Luke 9:43And all were awe-struck at the mighty power of God. And while every one was expressing wonder at all that He was doing, He said to his disciples,They were all astonished at the majesty of God. But while all were marveling at all the things which Jesus did, he said to his disciples,And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and cured the boy, and restored him to his father.
Luke 9:44"As for you, store these my sayings in your memory; for, before long, the Son of Man will be betrayed into the hands of men.""Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men."And all were astonished at the mighty power of God. But while all wondered at all the things he did, he said to his disciples: Lay you up in your hearts these words, for it shall come to pass, that the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
Luke 9:45But they did not understand His meaning: it was veiled from them that they might not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.But they didn't understand this saying. It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying. But they understood not this word; and it was hid from them, so that they perceived it not. And they were afraid to ask him concerning this word.
Luke 9:46Now there arose a dispute among them, which of them was to be the greatest. There arose an argument among them about which of them was the greatest. And there entered a thought into them, which of them should be greater.
Luke 9:47And Jesus, knowing the reasoning that was in their hearts, took a young child and made him stand by His sideJesus, perceiving the reasoning of their heart, took a little child, and set him by his side,But Jesus seeing the thoughts of their heart, took a child and set him by him,
Luke 9:48and said to them, "Whoever for my sake receives this little child, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives Him who sent me. For the lowliest among you all he is the greatest."and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me. Whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For whoever is least among you all, this one will be great."And said to them: Whosoever shall receive this child in my name, receiveth me; and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth him that sent me. For he that is the lesser among you all, he is the greater.
Luke 9:49"Rabbi," replied John, "we have seen a man making use of your name to expel demons; and we forbad him, because he does not come with us."John answered, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he doesn't follow with us."And John, answering, said: Master, we saw a certain man casting out devils in thy name, and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us.
Luke 9:50"Do not forbid him," said Jesus, "for he who is not against you is on your side."Jesus said to him, "Don't forbid him, for he who is not against us is for us."And Jesus said to him: Forbid him not; for he that is not against you, is for you.
Luke 9:51Now when the time drew near for Him to be received up again into Heaven, He proceeded with fixed purpose towards Jerusalem, and sent messengers before Him.It came to pass, when the days were near that he should be taken up, he intently set his face to go to Jerusalem,And it came to pass, when the days of his assumption were accomplishing, that he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem.
Luke 9:52They went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make ready for Him.and sent messengers before his face. They went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him.And he sent messengers before his face; and going, they entered into a city of the Samaritans, to prepare for him.
Luke 9:53But the people there would not receive Him, because He was evidently going to Jerusalem. They didn't receive him, because he was traveling with his face set towards Jerusalem. And they received him not, because his face was of one going to Jerusalem.
Luke 9:54When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Master, do you wish us to order fire to come down from Heaven and consume them?"When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky, and destroy them, just as Elijah did?"And when his disciples James and John had seen this, they said: Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them?
Luke 9:55But He turned and rebuked them. But he turned and rebuked them, "You don't know what kind of spirit you are of.And turning, he rebuked them, saying: You know not of what spirit you are.
Luke 9:56And they went to another village. For the Son of Man didn't come to destroy men's lives, but to save them." They went to another village. The Son of man came not to destroy souls, but to save. And they went into another town.
Luke 9:57And, as they proceeded on their way, a man came to Him and said, "I will follow you wherever you go."As they went on the way, a certain man said to him, "I want to follow you wherever you go, Lord."And it came to pass, as they walked in the way, that a certain man said to him: I will follow thee withersoever thou goest.
Luke 9:58"The foxes have holes," said Jesus, "and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."Jesus said to him: The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Luke 9:59"Follow me," He said to another. "Master," the man replied, "allow me first to go and bury my father."He said to another, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father."But he said to another: Follow me. And he said: Lord, suffer me first to go, and to bury my father.
Luke 9:60"Leave the dead," Jesus rejoined, "to bury their own dead; but you must go and announce far and wide the coming of the Kingdom of God."But Jesus said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead, but you go and announce the kingdom of God."And Jesus said to him: Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou, and preach the kingdom of God.
Luke 9:61"Master," said yet another, "I will follow you; but allow me first to go and say good-bye to my friends at home."Another also said, "I want to follow you, Lord, but first allow me to bid farewell to those who are at my house."And another said: I will follow thee, Lord; but let me first take my leave of them that are at my house.
Luke 9:62Jesus answered him, "No one who has put his hand to the plough, and then looks behind him, is fit for the Kingdom of God.But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."Jesus said to him: No man putting his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
