Mark 10:1Soon on His feet once more, He enters the district of Judaea and crosses the Jordan: again the people flock to Him, and ere long, as was usual with Him, He was teaching them once more.He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he taught them again.And having risen thence, he doth come to the coasts of Judea, through the other side of the Jordan, and again do multitudes come together unto him, and, as he had been accustomed, again he was teaching them.
Mark 10:2Presently a party of Pharisees come to Him with the question seeking to entrap Him, "May a man divorce his wife?"There came to him Pharisees testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"And the Pharisees, having come near, questioned him, if it is lawful for a husband to put away a wife, tempting him,
Mark 10:3"What rule did Moses lay down for you?" He answered.He answered, "What did Moses command you?"and he answering said to them, `What did Moses command you?`
Mark 10:4"Moses," they said, "permitted a man to draw up a written notice of divorce, and to send his wife away."They said, "Moses allowed a bill of divorce to be written, and to divorce her."and they said, `Moses suffered to write a bill of divorce, and to put away.`
Mark 10:5"It was in consideration of your stubborn hearts," said Jesus, "that Moses enacted this law for you;But Jesus said to them, "For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment.And Jesus answering said to them, `For the stiffness of your heart he wrote you this command,
Mark 10:6but from the beginning of the creation the rule was, `Male and female did God make them.But from the beginning of the creation, 'God made them male and female.but from the beginning of the creation, a male and a female God did make them;
Mark 10:7For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cling to his wife,For this cause will a man leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife,on this account shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife,
Mark 10:8and the two shall be one'; so that they are two no longer, but `one.'and the two will become one flesh,' so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.and they shall be the two for one flesh; so that they are no more two, but one flesh;
Mark 10:9What, therefore, God has joined together let not man separate."What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."what therefore God did join together, let not man put asunder.`
Mark 10:10Indoors the disciples began questioning Jesus again on the same subject.In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter.And in the house again his disciples of the same thing questioned him,
Mark 10:11He replied, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman, commits adultery against the first wife;He said to them, "Whoever will divorce his wife, and marry another, commits adultery against her.and he saith to them, `Whoever may put away his wife, and may marry another, doth commit adultery against her;
Mark 10:12and if a woman puts away her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."If a woman herself divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery."and if a woman may put away her husband, and is married to another, she committeth adultery.`
Mark 10:13One day people were bringing young children to Jesus for Him to touch them, but the disciples interfered.They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them.And they were bringing to him children, that he might touch them, and the disciples were rebuking those bringing them,
Mark 10:14Jesus, however, on seeing this, was moved to indignation, and said to them, "Let the little children come to me: do not hinder them; for to those who are childlike the Kingdom of God belongs.But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, "Allow the little children to come to me! Don't forbid them, for to such belong the kingdom of God.and Jesus having seen, was much displeased, and he said to them, `Suffer the children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the reign of God;
Mark 10:15In solemn truth I tell you that no one who does not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will by any possibility enter it."Most assuredly I tell you, whoever will not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he will in no way enter therein."verily I say to you, whoever may not receive the reign of God, as a child he may not enter into it;`
Mark 10:16Then He took them in His arms and blessed them lovingly, one by one, laying His hands upon them.He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them.and having taken them in his arms, having put [his] hands upon them, he was blessing them.
Mark 10:17As He went out to resume His journey, there came a man running up to Him, who knelt at His feet and asked, "Good Rabbi, what am I to do in order to inherit the Life of the Ages?"As he was going forth into the way, one ran to him, kneeled to him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?"And as he is going forth into the way, one having run and having kneeled to him, was questioning him, `Good teacher, what may I do, that life age-during I may inherit?`
Mark 10:18"Why do you call me good?" asked Jesus in reply; "there is no one truly good except One that is, God.Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except one God.And Jesus said to him, `Why me dost thou call good? no one [is] good except One God;
Mark 10:19You know the Commandments `Do not murder;' `Do not commit adultery;' `Do not steal;' `Do not lie in giving evidence;' `Do not defraud;' `Honour thy father and thy mother.'"You know the commandments: 'Do not murder,' 'Do not commit adultery,' 'Do not steal,' 'Do not give false testimony,' 'Do not defraud,' 'Honor your father and mother.'"the commands thou hast known: Thou mayest not commit adultery, Thou mayest do no murder, Thou mayest not steal, Thou mayest not bear false witness, Thou mayest not defraud, Honour thy father and mother.`
Mark 10:20"Rabbi," he replied, "all these Commandments I have carefully obeyed from my youth."He said to him, "Teacher, all these things have I observed from my youth."And he answering said to him, `Teacher, all these did I keep from my youth.`
Mark 10:21Then Jesus looked at him and loved him, and said, "One thing is lacking in you: go, sell all you possess and give the proceeds to the poor, and you shall have riches in Heaven; and come and be a follower of mine."Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, "One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross."And Jesus having looked upon him, did love him, and said to him, `One thing thou dost lack; go away, whatever thou hast sell, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come, be following me, having taken up the cross.`
Mark 10:22At these words his brow darkened, and he went away sad; for he was possessed of great wealth.But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions.And he gloomy at the word went away sorrowing, for he was having many possessions.
Mark 10:23Then looking round on His disciples Jesus said, "With how hard a struggle will the possessors of riches enter the Kingdom of God!"Jesus looked around, and said to his disciples, "How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!"And Jesus having looked round, saith to his disciples, `How hardly shall they who have riches enter into the reign of God!`
Mark 10:24The disciples were amazed at His words. Jesus, however, said again, "Children, how hard a struggle is it for those who trust in riches to enter the Kingdom of God!The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again, "Children, how hard is it for those who trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!And the disciples were astonished at his words, and Jesus again answering saith to them, `Children, how hard is it to those trusting on the riches to enter into the reign of God!
Mark 10:25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God."It is easier for a camel to go through the needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."It is easier for a camel through the eye of the needle to enter, than for a rich man to enter into the reign of God.`
Mark 10:26They were astonished beyond measure, and said to one another, "Who then *can* be saved?"They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, "Then who can be saved?"And they were astonished beyond measure, saying unto themselves, `And who is able to be saved?`
Mark 10:27Jesus looking on them said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for everything is possible with God."Jesus, looking at them, said, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God."And Jesus, having looked upon them, saith, `With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.`
Mark 10:28"Remember," said Peter to Him, "that we forsook everything and have become your followers."Peter began to tell him, "Behold, we have left all, and have followed you."And Peter began to say to him, `Lo, we left all, and we followed thee.`
Mark 10:29"In solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that there is no one who has forsaken house or brothers or sisters, or mother or father, or children or lands, for my sake and for the sake of the Good News,Jesus said, "Most assuredly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the gospel's sake,And Jesus answering said, `Verily I say to you, there is no one who left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or fields, for my sake, and for the good news`,
Mark 10:30but will receive a hundred times as much now in this present life houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, lands and persecution with them and in the coming age the Life of the Ages.but he will receive one hundred times now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life.who may not receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brothers, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and fields, with persecutions, and in the age that is coming, life age-during;
Mark 10:31But many who are now first will be last, and the last, first."But many who are first will be last; and the last first."and many first shall be last, and the last first.`
Mark 10:32They were still on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; they were full of wonder, and some, though they followed, did so with fear. Then, once more calling to Him the Twelve, He began to tell them what was about to happen to Him.They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him.And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them, and they were amazed, and following they were afraid. And having again taken the twelve, he began to tell them the things about to happen to him,
Mark 10:33"See," He said, "we are going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the High Priests and the Scribes. They will condemn Him to death, and will hand Him over to the Gentiles;"Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles.`Lo, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man shall be delivered to the chief priests, and to the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the nations,
Mark 10:34they will insult Him in cruel sport, spit on Him, scourge Him, and put Him to death; but on the third day He will rise to life again."They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him. On the third day he will rise again."and they shall mock him, and scourge him, and spit on him, and kill him, and the third day he shall rise again.`
Mark 10:35Then James and John, the sons of Zabdi, came up to Him and said, "Rabbi, we wish you would grant us whatever request we make of you."James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, saying, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask."And there come near to him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying, `Teacher, we wish that whatever we may ask for ourselves, thou mayest do for us;`
Mark 10:36"What would you have me do for you?" He asked.He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?"and he said to them, `What do ye wish me to do for you?`
Mark 10:37"Allow us," they replied, "to sit one at your right hand and the other at your left hand, in your glory."They said to him, "Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand, and one at your left hand, in your glory."and they said to him, `Grant to us that, one on thy right hand and one on thy left, we may sit in thy glory;`
Mark 10:38"You know not," said He, "what you are asking. Are you able to drink out of the cup from which I am to drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am to be baptized?"But Jesus said to them, "You don't know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?"and Jesus said to them, `Ye have not known what ye ask; are ye able to drink of the cup that I drink of, and with the baptism that I am baptized with to be baptized?`
Mark 10:39"We are able," they replied. "Out of the cup," said Jesus, "from which I am to drink you shall drink, and with the baptism with which I am to be baptized you shall be baptized;They said to him, "We are able." Jesus said to them, "You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with;And they said to him, `We are able;` and Jesus said to them, `Of the cup indeed that I drink of, ye shall drink, and with the baptism that I am baptized with, ye shall be baptized;
Mark 10:40but as to sitting at my right hand or at my left, that is not mine to give: it will be for those for whom it is reserved."but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared."but to sit on my right and on my left, is not mine to give, but to those for whom it hath been prepared.`
Mark 10:41The other ten, hearing of it, were at first highly indignant with James and John.When the ten heard it, they began to be moved with indignation towards James and John.And the ten having heard, began to be much displeased at James and John,
Mark 10:42Jesus, however, called them to Him and said to them, "You are aware how those who are deemed rulers among the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men make them feel their authority;Jesus called them to him, and said to them, "You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.but Jesus having called them near, saith to them, `Ye have known that they who are considered to rule the nations do exercise lordship over them, and their great ones do exercise authority upon them;
Mark 10:43but it is not to be so among you. No, whoever desires to be great among you must be your servant;But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you, will be your servant.but not so shall it be among you; but whoever may will to become great among you, he shall be your minister,
Mark 10:44and whoever desires to be first among you must be the bondservant of all.Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be servant of all.and whoever of you may will to become first, he shall be servant of all;
Mark 10:45For the Son of Man also did not come to be waited upon, but to wait on others, and to give His life as the redemption-price for a multitude of people."For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."for even the Son of Man came not to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.`
Mark 10:46They came to Jericho; and as He was leaving that town Himself and His disciples and a great crowd Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting by the way-side.They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.And they come to Jericho, and as he is going forth from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, a son of Timaeus Bartimaeus the blind was sitting beside the way begging,
Mark 10:47Hearing that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, "Son of David, Jesus, have pity on me."When he heard that it was Jesus, the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and say, "Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!"and having heard that it is Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and to say, `The Son of David Jesus! deal kindly with me;`
Mark 10:48Many angrily told him to leave off shouting; but he only cried out all the louder, "Son of David, have pity on me."Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out the more a great deal, "You son of David, have mercy on me!"and many were rebuking him, that he might keep silent, but the more abundantly he cried out, `Son of David, deal kindly with me.`
Mark 10:49Then Jesus stood still. "Call him," He said. So they called the blind man. "Cheer up," they said; "rise, he is calling you."Jesus stood still, and said, "Call him." They called the blind man, saying to him, "Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you."And Jesus having stood, he commanded him to be called, and they call the blind man, saying to him, `Take courage, rise, he doth call thee;`
Mark 10:50The man flung away his outer garment, sprang to his feet, and came to Jesus.He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.and he, having cast away his garment, having risen, did come unto Jesus.
Mark 10:51"What shall I do for you?" said Jesus. "Rabboni," replied the blind man, "let me recover my sight."Jesus answered him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man said to him, "Rhabboni, that I may see again."And answering, Jesus saith to him, `What wilt thou I may do to thee?` and the blind man said to him, `Rabboni, that I may see again;`
Mark 10:52"Go," said Jesus, "your faith has cured you." Instantly he regained his sight, and followed Him along the road.Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your faith has made you well." Immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.and Jesus said to him, `Go, thy faith hath saved thee:` and immediately he saw again, and was following Jesus in the way.
