1st-Peter 5:1 | So I exhort the Elders among you I who am their fellow Elder and have been an eye-witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and am also a sharer in the glory which is soon to be revealed. | Elders who [are] among you, I exhort, who [am] a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and of the glory about to be revealed a partaker, | I who am myself one of the rulers of the church, and a witness of the death of Christ, having my part in the coming glory, send this serious request to the chief men among you: |
1st-Peter 5:2 | Be shepherds of God's flock which is among you. Exercise the oversight not reluctantly but eagerly, in accordance with the will of God; not for base gain but with cheerful minds; | feed the flock of God that [is] among you, overseeing not constrainedly, but willingly, neither for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind, | Keep watch over the flock of God which is in your care, using your authority, not as forced to do so, but gladly; and not for unclean profit but with a ready mind; |
1st-Peter 5:3 | not lording it over your Churches but proving yourselves patterns for the flock to imitate. | neither as exercising lordship over the heritages, but patterns becoming of the flock, | Not as lords over God's heritage, but making yourselves examples to the flock. |
1st-Peter 5:4 | And then, when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the never-withering wreath of glory. | and at the manifestation of the chief Shepherd, ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory. | And at the coming of the chief Keeper of the sheep, you will be given the eternal crown of glory. |
1st-Peter 5:5 | In the same way you younger men must submit to your elders; and all of you must gird yourselves with humility towards one another, for God sets Himself against the proud, but gives grace to the humble. | In like manner, ye younger, be subject to elders, and all to one another subjecting yourselves; with humble-mindedness clothe yourselves, because God the proud doth resist, but to the humble He doth give grace; | And in the same way, let the younger men be ruled by the older ones. Let all of you put away pride and make yourselves ready to be servants: for God is a hater of pride, but he gives grace to those who make themselves low. |
1st-Peter 5:6 | Humble yourselves therefore beneath the mighty hand of God, so that at the right time He may set you on high. | be humbled, then, under the powerful hand of God, that you He may exalt in good time, | For this cause make yourselves low under the strong hand of God, so that when the time comes you may be lifted up; |
1st-Peter 5:7 | Throw the whole of your anxiety upon Him, because He Himself cares for you. | all your care having cast upon Him, because He careth for you. | Putting all your troubles on him, for he takes care of you. |
1st-Peter 5:8 | Curb every passion, and be on the alert. Your great accuser, the Devil, is going about like a roaring lion to see whom he can devour. | Be sober, vigilant, because your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, doth walk about, seeking whom he may swallow up, | Be serious and keep watch; the Evil One, who is against you, goes about like a lion with open mouth in search of food; |
1st-Peter 5:9 | Withstand him, firm in your faith; knowing that your brethren in other parts of the world are passing through just the same experiences. | whom resist, stedfast in the faith, having known the same sufferings to your brotherhood in the world to be accomplished. | Do not give way to him but be strong in your faith, in the knowledge that your brothers who are in the world undergo the same troubles. |
1st-Peter 5:10 | And God, the giver of all grace, who has called you to share His eternal glory, through Christ, after you have suffered for a short time, will Himself make you perfect, firm, and strong. | And the God of all grace, who did call you to His age-during glory in Christ Jesus, having suffered a little, Himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle [you]; | And after you have undergone pain for a little time, the God of all grace who has given you a part in his eternal glory through Christ Jesus, will himself give you strength and support, and make you complete in every good thing; |
1st-Peter 5:11 | To Him be all power unto the Ages of the Ages! Amen. | to Him [is] the glory, and the power to the ages and the ages! Amen. | His is the power for ever. So be it. |
1st-Peter 5:12 | I send this short letter by Silas, our faithful brother for such I regard him in order to encourage you, and to bear witness that what I have told you is the true grace of God. In it stand fast. | Through Silvanus, to you the faithful brother, as I reckon, through few [words] I did write, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which ye have stood. | I have sent you this short letter by Silvanus, a true brother, in my opinion; comforting you and witnessing that this is the true grace of God; keep to it. |
1st-Peter 5:13 | The Church in Babylon, chosen like yourselves by God, sends greetings, and so does Mark my son. | Salute you doth the [assembly] in Babylon jointly elected, and Markus my son. | She who is in Babylon, who has a part with you in the purpose of God, sends you her love; and so does my son Mark. |
1st-Peter 5:14 | Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with all of you who are in Christ. | Salute ye one another in a kiss of love; peace to you all who [are] in Christ Jesus! Amen. | Give one another the kiss of love. Peace be to you all in Christ. |
