John 2:1Two days later there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there,And the third day a marriage happened in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there,On the third day two people were going to be married at Cana in Galilee. The mother of Jesus was there:
John 2:2and Jesus also was invited and His disciples.and also Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage; And Jesus with his disciples came as guests.
John 2:3Now the wine ran short; whereupon the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine."and wine having failed, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, `Wine they have not;`When they had not enough wine, the mother of Jesus said to him, They have no wine.
John 2:4"Leave the matter in my hands," He replied; "the time for me to act has not yet come."Jesus saith to her, `What to me and to thee, woman? not yet is mine hour come.`Jesus said to her, Woman, this is not your business; my time is still to come.
John 2:5His mother said to the attendants, "Whatever he tells you to do, do it."His mother saith to the ministrants, `Whatever he may say to you do.`His mother said to the servants, Whatever he says to you, do it.
John 2:6Now there were six stone jars standing there (in accordance with the Jewish regulations for purification), each large enough to hold twenty gallons or more. And there were there six water-jugs of stone, placed according to the purifying of the Jews, holding each two or three measures. Now six pots of stone, every one taking two or three firkins of water, were placed there for the purpose of washing, as is the way of the Jews.
John 2:7Jesus said to the attendants, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them to the brim.Jesus saith to them, `Fill the water-jugs with water;` and they filled them unto the brim;Jesus said to the servants, Make the pots full of water. And they made them full to the top.
John 2:8Then He said, "Now, take some out, and carry it to the President of the feast."and he saith to them, `Draw out, now, and bear to the director of the apartment;` and they bare. Then he said to them, Now take some, and give it to the master of the feast. So they took it to him.
John 2:9So they carried some to him. And no sooner had the President tasted the water now turned into wine, than not knowing where it came from, though the attendants who had drawn the water knew he called to the bridegroomAnd as the director of the apartment tasted the water become wine, and knew not whence it is, (but the ministrants knew, who have drawn the water,) the director of the feast doth call the bridegroom,After tasting the water which had now become wine, the master of the feast (having no idea where it came from, though it was clear to the servants who took the water out) sent for the newly-married man,
John 2:10and said to him, "It is usual to put on the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then that which is inferior. But you have kept the good wine till now."and saith to him, `Every man, at first, the good wine doth set forth; and when they may have drunk freely, then the inferior; thou didst keep the good wine till now.`And said to him, Every man first puts out his best wine and when all have had enough he puts out what is not so good; but you have kept the good wine till now.
John 2:11This, the first of His miracles, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee, and thus displayed His glorious power; and His disciples believed in Him.This beginning of the signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him; This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee and let his glory be seen openly; and his disciples put their faith in him.
John 2:12Afterwards He went down to Capernaum He, and His mother, and His brothers, and His disciples; and they made a short stay there.after this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples; and there they remained not many days. After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples, and they were there not more than two or three days.
John 2:13But the Jewish Passover was approaching, and for this Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And the passover of the Jews was nigh, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,The time of the Passover of the Jews was near and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
John 2:14And He found in the Temple the dealers in cattle and sheep and in pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there.and he found in the temple those selling oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the money-changers sitting,And there in the Temple he saw men trading in oxen and sheep and doves, and he saw the changers of money in their seats:
John 2:15So He plaited a whip of rushes, and drove all both sheep and bullocks out of the Temple. The small coin of the brokers He upset on the ground and overturned their tables.and having made a whip of small cords, he put all forth out of the temple, also the sheep, and the oxen; and of the money-changers he poured out the coins, and the tables he overthrew,And he made a whip of small cords and put them all out of the Temple, with the sheep and the oxen, sending in all directions the small money of the changers and overturning their tables;
John 2:16And to the pigeon-dealers He said, "Take these things away. Do not turn my Father's house into a market."and to those selling the doves he said, `Take these things hence; make not the house of my Father a house of merchandise.`And to those who were trading in doves he said, Take these things away; do not make my Father's house a market.
John 2:17This recalled to His disciples the words of Scripture, "My zeal for Thy House will consume me."And his disciples remembered that it is written, `The zeal of Thy house did eat me up;`And it came to the minds of the disciples that the Writings say, I am on fire with passion for your house.
John 2:18So the Jews asked Him, "What proof of your authority do you exhibit to us, seeing that you do these things?"the Jews then answered and said to him, `What sign dost thou shew to us that thou dost these things?`Then the Jews put this question to him: What sign of authority have you to give us, seeing that you do these things?
John 2:19"Demolish this Sanctuary," said Jesus, "and in three days I will rebuild it."Jesus answered and said to them, `Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will raise it up.`And Jesus said to them, Send destruction on this Temple and I will put it up again in three days.
John 2:20"It has taken forty-six years," replied the Jews, "to build this Sanctuary, and will you rebuild it in three days?"The Jews, therefore, said, `Forty and six years was this sanctuary building, and wilt thou in three days raise it up?`The Jews said, The building of this Temple took forty-six years; and you will put it up in three days!
John 2:21But He was speaking of the Sanctuary of His body.but he spake concerning the sanctuary of his body; But his words were about that holy building which was his body.
John 2:22When however He had risen from among the dead, His disciples recollected that He had said this; and they believed the Scripture and the teaching which Jesus had given them.when, then, he was raised out of the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this to them, and they believed the Writing, and the word that Jesus said.So when he had come back again from the dead, the memory of these words came back to the disciples, and they had faith in the holy Writings and in the word which Jesus had said.
John 2:23Now when He was in Jerusalem, at the Festival of the Passover, many became believers in Him through watching the miracles He performed. And as he was in Jerusalem, in the passover, in the feast, many believed in his name, beholding his signs that he was doing; Now while he was in Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover, a great number of people came to have faith in his name, after seeing the signs which he did.
John 2:24But for His part, Jesus did not trust Himself to them, because He knew them all,and Jesus himself was not trusting himself to them, because of his knowing all [men],But Jesus did not have faith in them, because he had knowledge of them all.
John 2:25and did not need any one's testimony concerning a man, for He of Himself knew what was in the man.and because he had no need that any should testify concerning man, for he himself was knowing what was in man.He had no need for any witness about man; for he himself had knowledge of what was in man.
