Acts 22:3"I am a Jew, born at Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I was carefully trained at the feet of Gamaliel in the Law of our forefathers, and, like all of you to-day, was zealous for God.`I, indeed, am a man, a Jew, having been born in Tarsus of Cilicia, and brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, having been taught according to the exactitude of a law of the fathers, being zealous of God, as all ye are to-day.*I* am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, at the feet of Gamaliel, educated according to [the] exactness of the law of [our] fathers, being zealous for God, as *ye* are all this day;
Acts 22:4I persecuted to death this new faith, continually binding both men and women and throwing them into prison;`And this way I persecuted unto death, binding and delivering up to prisons both men and women,who have persecuted this way unto death, binding and delivering up to prisons both men and women;
Acts 22:5as the High Priest also and all the Elders can bear me witness. It was, too, from them that I received letters to the brethren in Damascus, and I was already on my way to Damascus, intending to bring those also who had fled there, in chains to Jerusalem, to be punished.as also the chief priest doth testify to me, and all the eldership; from whom also having received letters unto the brethren, to Damascus, I was going on, to bring also those there bound to Jerusalem that they might be punished,as also the high priest bears me witness, and all the elderhood: from whom also, having received letters to the brethren, I went to Damascus to bring those also who were there, bound, to Jerusalem, to be punished.
Acts 22:6"But on my way, when I was now not far from Damascus, about noon a sudden blaze of light from Heaven shone round me.and it came to pass, in my going on and coming nigh to Damascus, about noon, suddenly out of the heaven there shone a great light round about me,And it came to pass, as I was journeying and drawing near to Damascus, that, about mid-day, there suddenly shone out of heaven a great light round about me.
Acts 22:7I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me, "`Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?'I fell also to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why me dost thou persecute?And I fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
Acts 22:8"`Who art thou, Lord?' I asked. "`I am Jesus, the Nazarene,' He replied, `whom you are persecuting.'`And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? and he said unto me, I am Jesus the Nazarene whom thou dost persecuteAnd *I* answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said to me, *I* am Jesus the Nazaraean, whom *thou* persecutest.
Acts 22:9"Now the men who were with me, though they saw the light, did not hear the words of Him who spoke to me.and they who are with me the light did see, and became afraid, and the voice they heard not of him who is speaking to meBut they that were with me beheld the light, [and were filled with fear], but heard not the voice of him that was speaking to me.
Acts 22:10And I asked, "`What am I to do, Lord?' "And the Lord said to me, "`Rise, and go into Damascus. There you shall be told of all that has been appointed for you to do.'and I said, What shall I do, Lord? and the Lord said unto me, Having risen, go on to Damascus, and there it shall be told thee concerning all things that have been appointed for thee to do.And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said to me, Rise up, and go to Damascus, and there it shall be told thee of all things which it is appointed thee to do.
Acts 22:11"And as I could not see because the light had been so dazzling, those who were with me had to lead me by the arm, and so I came to Damascus.`And when I did not see from the glory of that light, being led by the hand by those who are with me, I came to Damascus,And as I could not see, through the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came to Damascus.
Acts 22:12"And a certain Ananias, a pious man who obeyed the Law and bore a good character with all the Jews of the city,and a certain one, Ananias, a pious man according to the law, being testified to by all the Jews dwelling [there],And a certain Ananias, a pious man according to the law, borne witness to by all the Jews who dwelt [there],
Acts 22:13came to me and standing at my side said, "`Brother Saul, recover your sight.' "I instantly regained my sight and looked up at him.having come unto me and stood by [me], said to me, Saul, brother, look up; and I the same hour did look up to him;coming to me and standing by me, said to me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And *I*, in the same hour, received my sight and saw him.
Acts 22:14Then he said, `The God of our forefathers has appointed you to know His will, and to see the righteous One and hear Him speak.and he said, The God of our fathers did choose thee beforehand to know His will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice out of his mouth,And he said, The God of our fathers has chosen thee beforehand to know his will, and to see the just one, and to hear a voice out of his mouth;
Acts 22:15For you shall be a witness for Him, to all men, of what you have seen and heard.because thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard;for thou shalt be a witness for him to all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
Acts 22:16And now why delay? Rise, get yourself baptized, and wash off your sins, calling upon His name.'and now, why tarriest thou? having risen, baptize thyself, and wash away thy sins, calling upon the name of the Lord.And now why lingerest thou? Arise and get baptised, and have thy sins washed away, calling on his name.
Acts 22:17"After my return to Jerusalem, and while praying in the Temple, I fell into a trance.`And it came to pass when I returned to Jerusalem, and while I was praying in the temple, I came into a trance,And it came to pass when I had returned to Jerusalem, and as I was praying in the temple, that I became in ecstasy,
Acts 22:18I saw Jesus, and He said to me, "`Make haste and leave Jerusalem quickly, because they will not accept your testimony about Me.'and I saw him saying to me, Haste and go forth in haste out of Jerusalem, because they will not receive thy testimony concerning me;and saw him saying to me, Make haste and go quickly out of Jerusalem, for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.
Acts 22:19"`Lord,' I replied, `they themselves well know how active I was in imprisoning, and in flogging in synagogue after synagogue those who believe in Thee;and I said, Lord, they they know that I was imprisoning and was scourging in every synagogue those believing on thee;And *I* said, Lord, they themselves know that *I* was imprisoning and beating in every synagogue those that believe on thee;
Acts 22:20and when they were shedding the blood of Stephen, Thy witness, I was standing by, fully approving of it, and I held the clothes of those who were killing him.'and when the blood of thy witness Stephen was being poured forth, I also was standing by and assenting to his death, and keeping the garments of those putting him to death;and when the blood of thy witness Stephen was shed, I also myself was standing by and consenting, and kept the clothes of them who killed him.
Acts 22:21"`Go,' He replied; `I will send you as an Apostle to nations far away.'"and he said unto me, Go, because to nations far off I will send thee.`And he said to me, Go, for *I* will send thee to the nations afar off.
Acts 22:22Until they heard this last statement the people listened to Paul, but now with a roar of disapproval they cried out, "Away with such a fellow from the earth! He ought not to be allowed to live."And they were hearing him unto this word, and they lifted up their voice, saying, `Away from the earth with such an one; for it is not fit for him to live.`And they heard him until this word, and lifted up their voice, saying, Away with such a one as that from the earth, for it was not fit he should live.
Acts 22:23And when they continued their furious shouts, throwing their clothes into the air and flinging dust about,And they crying out and casting up their garments, and throwing dust into the air,And as they were crying, and throwing away their clothes, and casting dust into the air,
Acts 22:24the Tribune ordered him to be brought into the barracks, and be examined by flogging, in order to ascertain the reason why they thus cried out against him.the chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, saying, `By scourges let him be examined;` that he might know for what cause they were crying so against him.the chiliarch commanded him to be brought into the fortress, saying that he should be examined by scourging, that he might ascertain for what cause they cried thus against him.
Acts 22:25But, when they had tied him up with the straps, Paul said to the Captain who stood by, "Does the Law permit you to flog a Roman citizen and one too who is uncondemned?"And as he was stretching him with the thongs, Paul said unto the centurion who was standing by, `A man, a Roman, uncondemned is it lawful to you to scourge;`But as they stretched him forward with the thongs, Paul said to the centurion who stood [by], Is it lawful for you to scourge a man [who is] a Roman and uncondemned?
Acts 22:26On hearing this question, the Captain went to report the matter to the Tribune. "What are you intending to do?" he said. "This man is a Roman citizen."and the centurion having heard, having gone near to the chief captain, told, saying, `Take heed what thou art about to do, for this man is a Roman;`And the centurion, having heard it, went and reported it to the chiliarch, saying, What art thou going to do? for this man is a Roman.
Acts 22:27So the Tribune came to Paul and asked him, "Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?" "Yes," he said.and the chief captain having come near, said to him, `Tell me, art thou a Roman?` and he said, `Yes;`And the chiliarch coming up said to him, Tell me, Art *thou* a Roman? And he said, Yes.
Acts 22:28"I paid a large sum for my citizenship," said the Tribune. "But I was born free," said Paul.and the chief captain answered, `I, with a great sum, did obtain this citizenship;` but Paul said, `But I have been even born [so].`And the chiliarch answered, *I*, for a great sum, bought this citizenship. And Paul said, But *I* was also [free] born.
Acts 22:29So the men who had been on the point of putting him under torture immediately left him. And the Tribune, too, was frightened when he learnt that Paul was a Roman citizen, for he had had him bound.Immediately, therefore, they departed from him who are about to examine him, and the chief captain also was afraid, having learned that he is a Roman, and because he had bound him,Immediately therefore those who were going to examine him left him, and the chiliarch also was afraid when he ascertained that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.
Acts 22:30The next day, wishing to know exactly what charge was being brought against him by the Jews, the Tribune ordered his chains to be removed; and, having sent word to the High Priests and all the Sanhedrin to assemble, he brought Paul down and made him stand before them.and on the morrow, intending to know the certainty wherefore he is accused by the Jews, he did loose him from the bonds, and commanded the chief priests and all their sanhedrim to come, and having brought down Paul, he set [him] before them.And on the morrow, desirous to know the certainty [of the matter] why he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him, and commanded the chief priests and all the council to meet, and having brought Paul down set him before them.
