Matthew 22:1 | Again Jesus spoke to them in figurative language. | And Jesus answering, again spake to them in similes, saying, | And Jesus answering spoke to them again in parables, saying, |
Matthew 22:2 | "The Kingdom of the Heavens," He said, "may be compared to a king who celebrated the marriage of his son, | `The reign of the heavens was likened to a man, a king, who made marriage-feasts for his son, | The kingdom of the heavens has become like a king who made a wedding feast for his son, |
Matthew 22:3 | and sent his servants to call the invited guests to the wedding, but they were unwilling to come. | and he sent forth his servants to call those having been called to the marriage-feasts, and they were not willing to come. | and sent his bondmen to call the persons invited to the wedding feast, and they would not come. |
Matthew 22:4 | "Again he sent other servants with a message to those who were invited. "`My breakfast is now ready," he said, `my bullocks and fat cattle are killed, and every preparation is made: come to the wedding.' | `Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Say to those who have been called: Lo, my dinner I prepared, my oxen and the fatlings have been killed, and all things [are] ready, come ye to the marriage-feasts; | Again he sent other bondmen, saying, Say to the persons invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatted beasts are killed, and all things ready; come to the wedding feast. |
Matthew 22:5 | "They however gave no heed, but went, one to his home in the country, another to his business; | and they, having disregarded [it], went away, the one to his own field, and the other to his merchandise; | But they made light of it, and went, one to his own land, and another to his commerce. |
Matthew 22:6 | and the rest seized the king's servants, maltreated them, and murdered them. | and the rest, having laid hold on his servants, did insult and slay [them]. | And the rest, laying hold of his bondmen, ill-treated and slew [them]. |
Matthew 22:7 | So the king's anger was stirred, and he sent his troops and destroyed those murderers and burnt their city. | `And the king having heard, was wroth, and having sent forth his soldiers, he destroyed those murderers, and their city he set on fire; | And [when] the king [heard of it he] was wroth, and having sent his forces, destroyed those murderers and burned their city. |
Matthew 22:8 | Then he said to his servants, "`The wedding banquet is ready, but those who were invited were unworthy of it. | then saith he to his servants, The marriage-feast indeed is ready, and those called were not worthy, | Then he says to his bondmen, The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy; |
Matthew 22:9 | Go out therefore to the crossroads, and everybody you meet invite to the wedding.' | be going, then, on to the cross-ways, and as many as ye may find, call ye to the marriage-feasts. | go therefore into the thoroughfares of the highways, and as many as ye shall find invite to the wedding feast. |
Matthew 22:10 | "So they went out into the roads and gathered together all they could find, both bad and good, and the banqueting hall was filled with guests. | `And those servants, having gone forth to the ways, did gather all, as many as they found, both bad and good, and the marriage-feast apartment was filled with those reclining. | And those bondmen went out into the highways, and brought together all as many as they found, both evil and good; and the wedding feast was furnished with guests. |
Matthew 22:11 | "Now the king came in to see the guests; and among them he discovered one who was not wearing a wedding-robe. | `And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with clothing of the marriage-feast, | And the king, having gone in to see the guests, beheld there a man not clothed with a wedding garment. |
Matthew 22:12 | "`My friend,' he said, `how is it that you came in here without a wedding robe?' | and he saith to him, Comrade, how didst thou come in hither, not having clothing of the marriage-feast? and he was speechless. | And he says to him, [My] friend, how camest thou in here not having on a wedding garment? But he was speechless. |
Matthew 22:13 | "The man stood speechless. Then the king said to the servants, "`Bind him hand and foot and fling him into the darkness outside: there will be the weeping aloud and the gnashing of teeth.' | `Then said the king to the ministrants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him up and cast forth to the outer darkness, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth; | Then said the king to the servants, Bind him feet and hands, and take him away, and cast him out into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. |
Matthew 22:14 | "For there are many called, but few chosen." | for many are called, and few chosen.` | For many are called ones, but few chosen ones. |
Matthew 22:15 | Then the Pharisees went and consulted together how they might entrap Him in His conversation. | Then the Pharisees having gone, took counsel how they might ensnare him in words, | Then went the Pharisees and held a council how they might ensnare him in speaking. |
Matthew 22:16 | So they sent to Him their disciples together with the Herodians; who said, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful and that you faithfully teach God's truth; and that no fear of man misleads you, for you are not biased by men's wealth or rank. | and they send to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, `Teacher, we have known that thou art true, and the way of God in truth thou dost teach, and thou art not caring for any one, for thou dost not look to the face of men; | And they send out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one, for thou regardest not men's person; |
Matthew 22:17 | Give us your judgement therefore: is it allowable for us to pay a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?" | tell us, therefore, what dost thou think? is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?` | tell us therefore what thou thinkest: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? |
Matthew 22:18 | Perceiving their wickedness, Jesus replied, "Why are you hypocrites trying to ensnare me? | And Jesus having known their wickedness, said, `Why me do ye tempt, hypocrites? | But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, Why tempt ye me, hypocrites? |
Matthew 22:19 | Show me the tribute coin." And they brought Him a shilling. | show me the tribute-coin?` and they brought to him a denary; | Shew me the money of the tribute. And they presented to him a denarius. |
Matthew 22:20 | "Whose likeness and inscription," He asked, "is this?" | and he saith to them, `Whose [is] this image and the inscription?` | And he says to them, Whose [is] this image and superscription? |
Matthew 22:21 | "Caesar's," they replied. "Pay therefore," He rejoined, "what is Caesar's to Caesar; and what is God's to God." | they say to him, `Caesar`s;` then saith he to them, `Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;` | They say to him, Caesar's. Then he says to them, Pay then what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God. |
Matthew 22:22 | They heard this, and were astonished; then left Him, and went their way. | and having heard they wondered, and having left him they went away. | And when they heard [him], they wondered, and left him, and went away. |
Matthew 22:23 | On the same day a party of Sadducees came to Him, contending that there is no resurrection. Matthew 22:24 | "Teacher," they said, "Moses enjoined, `If a man die childless, his brother shall marry his widow, and raise up a family for him.' | `Teacher, Moses said, If any one may die not having children, his brother shall marry his wife, and shall raise up seed to his brother. | saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any one die, not having children, his brother shall marry his wife and shall raise up seed to his brother. |
Matthew 22:25 | Now we had among us seven brothers. The eldest of them married, but died childless, leaving his wife to his brother. | `And there were with us seven brothers, and the first having married did die, and not having seed, he left his wife to his brother; | Now there were with us seven brethren; and the first having married died, and not having seed, left his wife to his brother. |
Matthew 22:26 | So also did the second and the third, down to the seventh, | in like manner also the second, and the third, unto the seventh, | In like manner also the second and the third, unto the seven. |
Matthew 22:27 | till the woman also died, after surviving them all. | and last of all died also the woman; | And last of all the woman also died. |
Matthew 22:28 | At the Resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? for they all married her." | therefore in the rising again, of which of the seven shall she be wife for all had her?` | In the resurrection therefore of which of the seven shall she be wife, for all had her? |
Matthew 22:29 | The reply of Jesus was, "You are in error, through ignorance of the Scriptures and of the power of God. | And Jesus answering said to them, `Ye go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God; | And Jesus answering said to them, Ye err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God. |
Matthew 22:30 | For in the Resurrection, men neither marry nor are women given in marriage, but they are like angels in Heaven. | for in the rising again they do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers of God in heaven. | For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven. |
Matthew 22:31 | But as to the Resurrection of the dead, have you never read what God says to you, | `And concerning the rising again of the dead, did ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, | But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, |
Matthew 22:32 | `I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of dead, but of living men." | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not a God of dead men, but of living.` | *I* am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not God of [the] dead, but of [the] living. |
Matthew 22:33 | All the crowd heard this, and were filled with amazement at His teaching. | And having heard, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching; | And when the crowds heard [it] they were astonished at his doctrine. |
Matthew 22:34 | Now the Pharisees came up when they heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, | and the Pharisees, having heard that he did silence the Sadducees, were gathered together unto him; | But the Pharisees, having heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, were gathered together. |
Matthew 22:35 | and one of them, an expounder of the Law, asked Him as a test question, | and one of them, a lawyer, did question, tempting him, and saying, | And one of them, a lawyer, demanded, tempting him, and saying, |
Matthew 22:36 | "Teacher, which is the greatest Commandment in the Law?" | `Teacher, which [is] the great command in the Law?` | Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? |
Matthew 22:37 | "`Thou shalt love the Lord thy God,'" He answered, "`with thy whole heart, thy whole soul, thy whole mind.' | And Jesus said to him, `Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thine understanding | And he said to him, Thou shalt love [the] Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy understanding. |
Matthew 22:38 | This is the greatest and foremost Commandment. | this is a first and great command; | This is [the] great and first commandment. |
Matthew 22:39 | And the second is similar to it: `Thou shalt love thy fellow man as much as thyself.' | and the second [is] like to it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; | And [the] second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. |
Matthew 22:40 | The whole of the Law and the Prophets is summed up in these two Commandments." | on these the two commands all the law and the prophets do hang.` | On these two commandments the whole law and the prophets hang. |

Matthew 22:44 | "`The Lord said to my Lord, sit at My right hand until I have put thy foes beneath thy feet'? | The Lord said to my lord, Sit at my right hand, till I may make thine enemies thy footstool? | The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand until I put thine enemies under thy feet? |
Matthew 22:45 | "If therefore David calls Him Lord, how can He be his son?" | If then David doth call him lord, how is he his son?` | If therefore David call him Lord, how is he his son? |
Matthew 22:46 | No one could say a word in reply, nor from that day did any one venture again to put a question to Him. | And no one was able to answer him a word, nor durst any from that day question him any more. | And no one was able to answer him a word, nor did any one dare from that day to question him any more. |
