Romans 13:1Let every individual be obedient to those who rule over him; for no one is a ruler except by God's permission, and our present rulers have had their rank and power assigned to them by Him.Let every soul to the higher authorities be subject, for there is no authority except from God, and the authorities existing are appointed by God,Let every soul be subject to the authorities that are above [him]. For there is no authority except from God; and those that exist are set up by God.
Romans 13:2Therefore the man who rebels against his ruler is resisting God's will; and those who thus resist will bring punishment upon themselves.so that he who is setting himself against the authority, against God`s ordinance hath resisted; and those resisting, to themselves shall receive judgment.So that he that sets himself in opposition to the authority resists the ordinance of God; and they who [thus] resist shall bring sentence of guilt on themselves.
Romans 13:3For judges and magistrates are to be feared not by right-doers but by wrong-doers. You desire do you not? to have no reason to fear your ruler. Well, do the thing that is right, and then he will commend you.For those ruling are not a terror to the good works, but to the evil; and dost thou wish not to be afraid of the authority? that which is good be doing, and thou shalt have praise from it,For rulers are not a terror to a good work, but to an evil [one]. Dost thou desire then not to be afraid of the authority? practise [what is] good, and thou shalt have praise from it;
Romans 13:4For he is God's servant for your benefit. But if you do what is wrong, be afraid. He does not wear the sword to no purpose: he is God's servant an administrator to inflict punishment upon evil-doers.for of God it is a ministrant to thee for good; and if that which is evil thou mayest do, be fearing, for not in vain doth it bear the sword; for of God it is a ministrant, an avenger for wrath to him who is doing that which is evil.for it is God's minister to thee for good. But if thou practisest evil, fear; for it bears not the sword in vain; for it is God's minister, an avenger for wrath to him that does evil.
Romans 13:5We must obey therefore, not only in order to escape punishment, but also for conscience' sake.Wherefore it is necessary to be subject, not only because of the wrath, but also because of the conscience,Wherefore it is necessary to be subject, not only on account of wrath, but also on account of conscience.
Romans 13:6Why, this is really the reason you pay taxes; for tax-gatherers are ministers of God, devoting their energies to this very work.for because of this also pay ye tribute; for servants of God they are, on this very thing attending continually;For on this account ye pay tribute also; for they are God's officers, attending continually on this very thing.
Romans 13:7Pay promptly to all men what is due to them: taxes to those to whom taxes are due, toll to those to whom toll is due, respect to those to whom respect is due, honour to those to whom honour is due.render, therefore, to all [their] dues; to whom tribute, the tribute; to whom custom, the custom; to whom fear, the fear; to whom honour, the honour.Render to all their dues: to whom tribute [is due], tribute; to whom custom, custom; to whom fear, fear; to whom honour, honour.
Romans 13:8Owe nothing to any one except mutual love; for he who loves his fellow man has satisfied the demands of Law.To no one owe anything, except to love one another; for he who is loving the other law he hath fulfilled,Owe no one anything, unless to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:9For the precepts, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," "Thou shalt do no murder," "Thou shalt not steal," "Thou shalt not covet," and all other precepts, are summed up in this one command, "Thou shalt love thy fellow man as much as thou lovest thyself."for, `Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false testimony, Thou shalt not covet;` and if there is any other command, in this word it is summed up, in this: `Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself;`For, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not lust; and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Romans 13:10Love avoids doing any wrong to one's fellow man, and is therefore complete obedience to Law.the love to the neighbor doth work no ill; the love, therefore, [is] the fulness of law.Love works no ill to its neighbour; love therefore [is the] whole law.
Romans 13:11Carry out these injunctions because you know the critical period at which we are living, and that it is now high time, to rouse yourselves from sleep; for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first became believers.And this, knowing the time, that for us, the hour already [is] to be aroused out of sleep, for now nearer [is] our salvation than when we did believe;This also, knowing the time, that it is already time that *we* should be aroused out of sleep; for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Romans 13:12The night is far advanced, and day is about to dawn. We must therefore lay aside the deeds of darkness, and clothe ourselves with the armour of Light.the night did advance, and the day came nigh; let us lay aside, therefore, the works of the darkness, and let us put on the armour of the light;The night is far spent, and the day is near; let us cast away therefore the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Romans 13:13Living as we do in broad daylight, let us conduct ourselves becomingly, not indulging in revelry and drunkenness, nor in lust and debauchery, nor in quarrelling and jealousy.as in day-time, let us walk becomingly; not in revellings and drunkennesses, not in chamberings and lasciviousnesses, not in strife and emulation;As in the day, let us walk becomingly; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and lasciviousness, not in strife and emulation.
Romans 13:14On the contrary, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for gratifying your earthly cravings.but put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and for the flesh take no forethought for desires.But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not take forethought for the flesh to [fulfil its] lusts.
