2nd-Peter 1:1Simon Peter, a bondservant and Apostle of Jesus Christ: To those to whom there has been allotted the same precious faith as that which is ours through the righteousness of our God and of our Saviour Jesus Christ.Simeon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who did obtain a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained equal faith with us in the justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
2nd-Peter 1:2May more and more grace and peace be granted to you in a full knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,Grace to you, and peace be multiplied in the acknowledgement of God and of Jesus our Lord!Grace to you and peace be accomplished in the knowledge of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord:
2nd-Peter 1:3seeing that His divine power has given us all things that are needful for life and godliness, through our knowledge of Him who has appealed to us by His own glorious perfections.As all things to us His divine power (the things pertaining unto life and piety) hath given, through the acknowledgement of him who did call us through glory and worthiness,As all things of his divine power which appertain to life and godliness, are given us, through the knowledge of him who hath called us by his own proper glory and virtue.
2nd-Peter 1:4It is by means of these that He has granted us His precious and wondrous promises, in order that through them you may, one and all, become sharers in the very nature of God, having completely escaped the corruption which exists in the world through earthly cravings.through which to us the most great and precious promises have been given, that through these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped from the corruption in the world in desires.By whom he hath given us most great and precious promises: that by these you may be made partakers of the divine nature: flying the corruption of that concupiscence which is in the world.
2nd-Peter 1:5But for this very reason adding, on your part, all earnestness along with your faith, manifest also a noble character: along with a noble character, knowledge;And this same also all diligence having brought in besides, superadd in your faith the worthiness, and in the worthiness the knowledge,And you, employing all care, minister in your faith, virtue; and in virtue, knowledge;
2nd-Peter 1:6along with knowledge, self-control; along with self-control, power of endurance;and in the knowledge the temperance, and in the temperance the endurance, and in the endurance the piety,And in knowledge, abstinence; and in abstinence, patience; and in patience, godliness;
2nd-Peter 1:7along with power of endurance, godliness; along with godliness, brotherly affection; and along with brotherly affection, love.and in the piety the brotherly kindness, and in the brotherly kindness the love;And in godliness, love of brotherhood; and in love of brotherhood, charity.
2nd-Peter 1:8If these things exist in you, and continually increase, they prevent your being either idle or unfruitful in advancing towards a full knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.for these things being to you and abounding, do make [you] neither inert nor unfruitful in regard to the acknowledging of our Lord Jesus Christ,For if these things be with you and abound, they will make you to be neither empty nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2nd-Peter 1:9For the man in whom they are lacking is blind and cannot see distant objects, in that he has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his old sins.for he with whom these things are not present is blind, dim-sighted, having become forgetful of the cleansing of his old sins;For he that hath not these things with him, is blind, and groping, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
2nd-Peter 1:10For this reason, brethren, be all the more in earnest to make sure that God has called you and chosen you; for it is certain that so long as you practise these things, you will never stumble.wherefore, the rather, brethren, be diligent to make stedfast your calling and choice, for these things doing, ye may never stumble,Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time.
2nd-Peter 1:11And so a triumphant admission into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ will be freely granted to you.for so, richly shall be superadded to you the entrance into the age-during reign of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
2nd-Peter 1:12For this reason I shall always persist in reminding you of these things, although you know them and are stedfast believers in truth which you already possess.Wherefore, I will not be careless always to remind you concerning these things, though, having known them, and having been established in the present truth,For which cause I will begin to put you always in remembrance of these things: though indeed you know them, and are confirmed in the present truth.
2nd-Peter 1:13But I think it right, so long as I remain in the body, my present dwelling-place, to arouse you by such reminders.and I think right, so long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up in reminding [you],But I think it meet as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance.
2nd-Peter 1:14For I know that the time for me to lay aside my body is now rapidly drawing near, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has revealed to me.having known that soon is the laying aside of my tabernacle, even as also our Lord Jesus Christ did shew to me,Being assured that the laying away of this my tabernacle is at hand, according as our Lord Jesus Christ also hath signified to me.
2nd-Peter 1:15So on every possible occasion I will also do my best to enable you to recall these things after my departure.and I will be diligent that also at every time ye have, after my outgoing, power to make to yourselves the remembrance of these things.And I will endeavour, that you frequently have after my decease, whereby you may keep a memory of these things.
2nd-Peter 1:16For when we made known to you the power and Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, we were not eagerly following cleverly devised legends, but we had been eye-witnesses of His majesty.For, skilfully devised fables not having followed out, we did make known to you the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, but eye-witnesses having become of his majestyFor we have not by following artificial fables, made known to you the power, and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ; but we were eyewitnesses of his greatness.
2nd-Peter 1:17He received honour and glory from God the Father, and out of the wondrous glory words such as these were spoken to Him, "This is My dearly-loved Son, in whom I take delight."for having received from God the Father honour and glory, such a voice being borne to him by the excellent glory: `This is My Son the beloved, in whom I was well pleased;`For he received from God the Father, honour and glory: this voice coming down to him from the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
2nd-Peter 1:18And we ourselves heard these words come from Heaven, when we were with Him on the holy mountain.and this voice we we did hear, out of heaven borne, being with him in the holy mount.And this voice we heard brought from heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.
2nd-Peter 1:19And in the written word of prophecy we have something more permanent; to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dimly-lighted place until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.And we have more firm the prophetic word, to which we do well giving heed, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, till day may dawn, and a morning star may arise in your hearts;And we have the more firm prophetical word: whereunto you do well to attend, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
2nd-Peter 1:20But, above all, remember that no prophecy in Scripture will be found to have come from the prophet's own prompting;this first knowing, that no prophecy of the Writing doth come of private exposition,Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation.
2nd-Peter 1:21for never did any prophecy come by human will, but men sent by God spoke as they were impelled by the Holy Spirit.for not by will of man did ever prophecy come, but by the Holy Spirit borne on holy men of God spake.For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost.
