Luke 7:1After He had finished teaching all these things in the hearing of the people, He went into Capernaum. And when he completed all his sayings in the ears of the people, he went into Capernaum; And when he had finished all his words in the hearing of the people, he entered into Capharnaum.
Luke 7:2Here the servant of a certain Captain, a man dear to his master, was ill and at the point of death;and a certain centurion`s servant being ill, was about to die, who was much valued by him,And the servant of a certain centurion, who was dear to him, being sick, was ready to die.
Luke 7:3and the Captain, hearing about Jesus, sent to Him some of the Jewish Elders, begging Him to come and restore his servant to health.and having heard about Jesus, he sent unto him elders of the Jews, beseeching him, that having come he might thoroughly save his servant. And when he had heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the ancients of the Jews, desiring him to come and heal his servant.
Luke 7:4And they, when they came to Jesus, earnestly entreated Him, pleading, "He deserves to have this favour granted him,And they, having come near unto Jesus, were calling upon him earnestly, saying `He is worthy to whom thou shalt do this,And when they came to Jesus, they besought him earnestly, saying to him: He is worthy that thou shouldest do this for him.
Luke 7:5for he loves our nation, and at his own expense he built our synagogue for us."for he doth love our nation, and the synagogue he did build to us.`For he loveth our nation; and he hath built us a synagogue.
Luke 7:6Then Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the Captain sent friends to Him with the message: "Sir, do not trouble to come. I am not worthy of having you come under my roof; And Jesus was going on with them, and now when he is not far distant from the house the centurion sent unto him friends, saying to him, `Sir, be not troubled, for I am not worthy that under my roof thou mayest enter; And Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent his friends to him, saying: Lord, trouble not thyself; for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof.
Luke 7:7and therefore I did not deem myself worthy to come to you. Only speak the word, and let my young man be cured.wherefore not even myself thought I worthy to come unto thee, but say in a word, and my lad shall be healed; For which cause neither did I think myself worthy to come to thee; but say the word, and my servant shall be healed.
Luke 7:8For I too am a man obedient to authority, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one, `Go,' and he goes; to another, `Come,' and he comes; and to my slave, `Do this or that,' and he does it."for I also am a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this [one], Go, and he goeth; and to another, Be coming, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doth [it].`For I also am a man subject to authority, having under me soldiers: and I say to one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doth it.
Luke 7:9Jesus listened to the Captain's message and was astonished at him, and He turned and said to the crowd that followed Him, "I tell you that not even in Israel have I found faith like that."And having heard these things Jesus wondered at him, and having turned to the multitude following him, he said, `I say to you, not even in Israel so much faith did I find;`Which Jesus hearing, marvelled: and turning about to the multitude that followed him, he said: Amen I say to you, I have not found so great faith, not even in Israel.
Luke 7:10And the friends who had been sent, on returning to the house, found the servant in perfect health.and those sent, having turned back to the house, found the ailing servant in health. And they who were sent, being returned to the house, found the servant whole who had been sick.
Luke 7:11Shortly afterwards He went to a town called Nain, attended by His disciples and a great crowd of people. And it came to pass, on the morrow, he was going on to a city called Nain, and there were going with him many of his disciples, and a great multitude,And it came to pass afterwards, that he went into a city that is called Naim; and there went with him his disciples, and a great multitude.
Luke 7:12And just as He reached the gate of the town, they happened to be bringing out for burial a dead man who was his mother's only son; and she was a widow; and a great number of the townspeople were with her.and as he came nigh to the gate of the city, then, lo, one dead was being carried forth, an only son of his mother, and she a widow, and a great multitude of the city was with her.And when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold a dead man was carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow: and a great multitude of the city was with her.
Luke 7:13The Lord saw her, was moved with pity for her, and said to her, "Do not weep."And the Lord having seen her, was moved with compassion towards her, and said to her, `Be not weeping;`Whom when the Lord had seen, being moved with mercy towards her, he said to her: Weep not.
Luke 7:14Then He went close and touched the bier, and the bearers halted. "Young man," He said, "I command you, wake!"and having come near, he touched the bier, and those bearing [it] stood still, and he said, `Young man, to thee I say, Arise;`And he came near and touched the bier. And they that carried it, stood still. And he said: Young man, I say to thee, arise.
Luke 7:15The dead man sat up and began to speak; and He restored him to his mother.and the dead sat up, and began to speak, and he gave him to his mother; And he that was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.
Luke 7:16All were awe-struck, and they gave glory to God some saying, "A Prophet, a great Prophet, has risen up among us." Others said, "God has not forgotten His People."and fear took hold of all, and they were glorifying God, saying `A great prophet hath risen among us,` and `God did look upon His people.`And there came a fear on them all: and they glorified God, saying: A great prophet is risen up among us: and, God hath visited his people.
Luke 7:17And the report of what Jesus had done spread through the whole of Judaea and in all the surrounding districts. And the account of this went forth in all Judea about him, and in all the region around. And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judea, and throughout all the country round about.
Luke 7:18John's disciples brought him an account of all these things; And the disciples of John told him about all these things,And John's disciples told him of all these things.
Luke 7:19so John called two of his disciples and sent them to the Lord. "Are you the Coming One?" he asked, "or is there another that we are to expect?"and John having called near a certain two of his disciples, sent unto Jesus, saying, `Art thou he who is coming, or for another do we look?`And John called to him two of his disciples, and sent them to Jesus, saying: Art thou he that art to come; or look we for another?
Luke 7:20The men came to Jesus and said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you with this question: `Are you the Coming One, or is there another that we are to expect?'"And having come near to him, the men said, `John the Baptist sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he who is coming, or for another do we look?`And when the men were come unto him, they said: John the Baptist hath sent us to thee, saying: Art thou he that art to come; or look we for another?
Luke 7:21He immediately cured many of diseases, severe pain, and evil spirits, and to many who were blind He gave the gift of sight. And in that hour he cured many from sicknesses, and plagues, and evil spirits, and to many blind he granted sight.(And in that same hour, he cured many of their diseases, and hurts, and evil spirits: and to many that were blind he gave sight.)
Luke 7:22Then He answered the messengers, "Go and report to John what you have seen and heard. Blind men receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are purified, deaf persons hear, the dead are raised to life, the poor have the Good News proclaimed to them. And Jesus answering said to them, `Having gone on, report to John what ye saw and heard, that blind men do see again, lame do walk, lepers are cleansed, deaf do hear, dead are raised, poor have good news proclaimed; And answering, he said to them: Go and relate to John what you have heard and seen: the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are made clean, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, to the poor the gospel is preached:
Luke 7:23And blessed is every one who does not stumble and fall because of my claims."and happy is he whoever may not be stumbled in me.`And blessed is he whosoever shall not be scandalized in me.
Luke 7:24When John's messengers were gone, He proceeded to say to the multitude concerning John, "What did you go out into the Desert to gaze at? A reed waving in the wind? And the messengers of John having gone away, he began to say unto the multitudes concerning John: `What have ye gone forth to the wilderness to look on? a reed by the wind shaken? And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak to the multitudes concerning John. What went ye out into the desert to see? a reed shaken with the wind?
Luke 7:25But what did you go out to see? A man wearing luxurious clothes? People who are gorgeously dressed and live in luxury are found in palaces.but what have ye gone forth to see? a man in soft garments clothed? lo, they in splendid apparellings, and living in luxury, are in the houses of kings! But what went you out to see? a man clothed in soft garments? Behold they that are in costly apparel and live delicately, are in the houses of kings.
Luke 7:26But what did you go out to see? A Prophet? Aye, I tell you, and far more than a Prophet.`But what have ye gone forth to see? a prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet:But what went you out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and more than a prophet.
Luke 7:27John is the man about whom it is written, `See, I am sending My messenger before thy face, and he shall make ready thy way before thee.'this is he concerning whom it hath been written, Lo, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee; This is he of whom it is written: Behold I send my angel before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.
Luke 7:28"I tell you that among all of women born there is not one greater than John. Yet one who is of lower rank in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.for I say to you, a greater prophet, among those born of women, than John the Baptist there is not; but the least in the reign of God is greater than he.`For I say to you: Amongst those that are born of women, there is not a greater prophet that John the Baptist. But he that is the lesser in the kingdom of God, is greater than he.
Luke 7:29And all the people, including the tax-gatherers, when they listened to him upheld the righteousness of God, by being baptized with John's baptism. And all the people having heard, and the tax-gatherers, declared God righteous, having been baptized with the baptism of John,And all the people hearing, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with John's baptism.
Luke 7:30But the Pharisees and expounders of the Law have frustrated God's purpose as to their own lives, by refusing to be baptized.but the Pharisees, and the lawyers, the counsel of God did put away for themselves, not having been baptized by him.But the Pharisees and the lawyers despised the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized by him.
Luke 7:31"To what then shall I compare the men of the present generation, and what do they resemble? And the Lord said, `To what, then, shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? And the Lord said: Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
Luke 7:32They are like children sitting in the public square and calling out to one another, `We have played the flute to you, and you have not danced: we have sung dirges, and you have not shown sorrow.'they are like to children, to those sitting in a market-place, and calling one to another, and saying, We piped to you, and ye did not dance, we mourned to you, and ye did not weep! They are like to children sitting in the marketplace, and speaking one to another, and saying: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have mourned, and you have not wept.
Luke 7:33For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, `He has a demon!'`For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and ye say, He hath a demon; For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say: He hath a devil.
Luke 7:34The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, `Look, there is a man who is overfond of eating and drinking he is a friend of tax-gatherers and notorious sinners!'the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and ye say, Lo, a man, a glutton, and a wine drinker, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners; The Son of man is come eating and drinking: and you say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a drinker of wine, a friend of publicans and sinners.
Luke 7:35But wisdom is justified by all who are truly wise."and the wisdom was justified from all her children.`And wisdom is justified by all her children.
Luke 7:36Now one of the Pharisees repeatedly invited Him to a meal at his house; so He entered the house and reclined at the table. And a certain one of the Pharisees was asking him that he might eat with him, and having gone into the house of the Pharisee he reclined (at meat),And one of the Pharisees desired him to eat with him. And he went into the house of the Pharisee, and sat down to meat.
Luke 7:37And there was a woman in the town who was a notorious sinner. Having learnt that Jesus was at table in the Pharisee's house she brought a flask of perfume,and lo, a woman in the city, who was a sinner, having known that he reclineth (at meat) in the house of the Pharisee, having provided an alabaster box of ointment,And behold a woman that was in the city, a sinner, when she knew that he sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment;
Luke 7:38and, standing behind close to His feet, weeping, began to wet His feet with her tears; and with her hair she wiped the tears away again, while she lovingly kissed His feet and poured the perfume over them.and having stood behind, beside his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with the tears, and with the hairs of her head she was wiping, and was kissing his feet, and was anointing with the ointment. And standing behind at his feet, she began to wash his feet, with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
Luke 7:39Noticing this, the Pharisee, His host, said to himself, "This man, if he were really a Prophet, would know who and what sort of person this woman is who is touching him and would know that she is an immoral woman."And the Pharisee who did call him, having seen, spake within himself, saying, `This one, if he were a prophet, would have known who and of what kind [is] the woman who doth touch him, that she is a sinner.`And the Pharisee, who had invited him, seeing it, spoke within himself, saying: This man, if he were a prophet, would know surely who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him, that she is a sinner.
Luke 7:40In answer to his thoughts Jesus said to him, "Simon, I have a word to say to you." "Rabbi, say on," he replied. And Jesus answering said unto him, `Simon, I have something to say to thee;` and he saith, `Teacher, say on.`And Jesus answering, said to him: Simon, I have somewhat to say to thee. But he said: Master, say it.
Luke 7:41"There were once two men in debt to one money-lender," said Jesus; "one owed him five hundred shillings and the other fifty.`Two debtors were to a certain creditor; the one was owing five hundred denaries, and the other fifty;A certain creditor had two debtors, the one who owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
Luke 7:42But neither of them could pay anything; so he freely forgave them both. Tell me, then, which of them will love him most?"and they not having [wherewith] to give back, he forgave both; which then of them, say thou, will love him more?`And whereas they had not wherewith to pay, he forgave them both. Which therefore of the two loveth him most?
Luke 7:43"I suppose," replied Simon, "the one to whom he forgave most." "You have judged rightly," Jesus rejoined. And Simon answering said, `I suppose that to whom he forgave the more;` and he said to him, `Rightly thou didst judge.`Simon answering, said: I suppose that he to whom he forgave most. And he said to him: Thou hast judged rightly.
Luke 7:44Then turning towards the woman He said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house: you gave me no water for my feet; but she has made my feet wet with her tears, and then wiped the tears away with her hair. And having turned unto the woman, he said to Simon, `Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house; water for my feet thou didst not give, but this woman with tears did wet my feet, and with the hairs of her head did wipe; And turning to the woman, he said unto Simon: Dost thou see this woman? I entered into thy house, thou gavest me no water for my feet; but she with tears hath washed my feet, and with her hairs hath wiped them.
Luke 7:45No kiss did you give me; but she from the moment I came in has not left off tenderly kissing my feet.a kiss to me thou didst not give, but this woman, from what [time] I came in, did not cease kissing my feet;Thou gavest me no kiss; but she, since she came in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
Luke 7:46No oil did you pour even on my head; but she has poured perfume upon my feet.with oil my head thou didst not anoint, but this woman with ointment did anoint my feet;My head with oil thou didst not anoint; but she with ointment hath anointed my feet.
Luke 7:47This is the reason why I tell you that her sins, her many sins, are forgiven because she has loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little."therefore I say to thee, her many sins have been forgiven, because she did love much; but to whom little is forgiven, little he doth love.`Wherefore I say to thee: Many sins are forgiven her, because she hath loved much. But to whom less is forgiven, he loveth less.
Luke 7:48And He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."And he said to her, `Thy sins have been forgiven;`And he said to her: Thy sins are forgiven thee.
Luke 7:49Then the other guests began to say to themselves, "Who can this man be who even forgives sins?"and those reclining with him (at meat) began to say within themselves, `Who is this, who also doth forgive sins?`And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves: Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
Luke 7:50But He said to the woman, "Your faith has cured you: go, and be at peace."and he said unto the woman, `Thy faith have saved thee, be going on to peace.`And he said to the woman: Thy faith hath made thee safe, go in peace.
