Matthew 21:6 | So the disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them: | And the disciples having gone and having done as Jesus commanded them, | And the disciples going, did as Jesus commanded them. |
Matthew 21:7 | they brought the she-ass and the foal, and threw their outer garments on them. So He sat on them; | brought the ass and the colt, and did put on them their garments, and set [him] upon them; | And they brought the ass and the colt, and laid their garments upon them, and made him sit thereon. |
Matthew 21:8 | and most of the crowd kept spreading their garments along the road, while others cut branches from the trees and carpeted the road with them, | and the very great multitude spread their own garments in the way, and others were cutting branches from the trees, and were strewing in the way, | And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way: and others cut boughs from the trees, and strewed them in the way: |
Matthew 21:9 | and the multitudes some of the people preceding Him and some following sang aloud, "God save the Son of David! Blessings on Him who comes in the Lord's name! God in the highest Heavens save Him!" | and the multitudes who were going before, and who were following, were crying, saying, `Hosanna to the Son of David, blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.` | And the multitudes that went before and that followed, cried, saying: Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest. |

Matthew 21:11 | "This is Jesus, the Prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee," replied the crowds. | And the multitudes said, `This is Jesus the prophet, who [is] from Nazareth of Galilee.` | And the people said: This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth of Galilee. |
Matthew 21:12 | Entering the Temple, Jesus drove out all who were buying and selling there, and overturned the money-changers' tables and the seats of the pigeon-dealers. | And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and did cast forth all those selling and buying in the temple, and the tables of the money-changers he overturned, and the seats of those selling the doves, | And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the chairs of them that sold doves: |
Matthew 21:13 | "It is written," He said, "`My House shall be called the House of Prayer', but you are making it a robbers' cave." | and he saith to them, `It hath been written, My house a house of prayer shall be called, but ye did make it a den of robbers.` | And he saith to them: It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves. |
Matthew 21:14 | And the blind and the lame came to Him in the Temple, and He cured them. | And there came to him blind and lame men in the temple, and he healed them, | And there came to him the blind and the lame in the temple; and he healed them. |
Matthew 21:15 | But when the High Priests and the Scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done and the children who were crying aloud in the Temple, "God save the Son of David," they were filled with indignation. | and the chief priests and the scribes having seen the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, `Hosanna to the Son of David,` were much displeased; | And the chief priests and scribes, seeing the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying: Hosanna to the son of David; were moved with indignation. |
Matthew 21:16 | "Do you hear," they asked Him, "what these children are saying?" "Yes," He replied; "have you never read, `Out of the mouths of infants and of babes at the breast Thou hast brought forth the praise which is due'?" | and they said to him, `Hearest thou what these say?` And Jesus saith to them, `Yes, did ye never read, that, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings Thou didst prepare praise?` | And said to him: Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus said to them: Yea, have you never read: Out of the mouth of infants and of sucklings thou hast perfected praise? |
Matthew 21:17 | So He left them and went out of the city to Bethany and passed the night there. | And having left them, he went forth out of the city to Bethany, and did lodge there, | And leaving them, he went out of the city into Bethania, and remained there. |
Matthew 21:18 | Early in the morning as He was on His way to return to the city He was hungry, | and in the morning turning back to the city, he hungered, | And in the morning, returning into the city, he was hungry. |
Matthew 21:19 | and seeing a fig-tree on the road-side He went up to it, but found nothing on it but leaves. "On you," He said, "no fruit shall ever again grow." And immediately the fig-tree withered away. | and having seen a certain fig-tree on the way, he came to it, and found nothing in it except leaves only, and he saith to it, `No more from thee may fruit be to the age;` and forthwith the fig-tree withered. | And seeing a certain fig tree by the way side, he came to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only, and he saith to it: May no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And immediately the fig tree withered away. |
Matthew 21:20 | When the disciples saw it they exclaimed in astonishment, "How instantaneously the fig-tree has withered away!" | And the disciples having seen, did wonder, saying, `How did the fig-tree forthwith wither?` | And the disciples seeing it wondered, saying: How is it presently withered away? |
Matthew 21:21 | "I solemnly tell you," said Jesus, "that if you have an unwavering faith, you shall not only perform such a miracle as this of the fig-tree, but that even if you say to this mountain, `Be thou lifted up and hurled into the sea,' it shall be done; | And Jesus answering said to them, `Verily I say to you, If ye may have faith, and may not doubt, not only this of the fig-tree shall ye do, but even if to this mount ye may say, Be lifted up and be cast into the sea, it shall come to pass; | And Jesus answering, said to them: Amen, I say to you, if you shall have faith, and stagger not, not only this of the fig tree shall you do, but also if you shall say to this mountain, Take up and cast thyself into the sea, it shall be done. |
Matthew 21:22 | and everything, whatever it be, that you ask for in your prayers, if you have faith, you shall obtain." | and all as much as ye may ask in the prayer, believing, ye shall receive.` | And in all things whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive. |
Matthew 21:23 | He entered the Temple; and while He was teaching, the High Priests and the Elders of the people came to Him and asked Him, "By what authority are you doing these things? and who gave you this authority?" | And he having come to the temple, there came to him when teaching the chief priests and the elders of the people, saying, `By what authority dost thou do these things? and who gave thee this authority?` | And when he was come into the temple, there came to him, as he was teaching, the chief priests and ancients of the people, saying: By what authority dost thou these things? and who hath given thee this authority? |
Matthew 21:24 | "And I also have a question to ask *you*," replied Jesus, "and if you answer me, I in turn will tell you by what authority I do these things. | And Jesus answering said to them, `I will ask you I also one word, which if ye may tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things; | Jesus answering, said to them: I also will ask you one word, which if you shall tell me, I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. |
Matthew 21:25 | John's Baptism, whence was it? had it a heavenly or a human origin?" So they debated the matter among themselves. "If we say `a heavenly origin,'" they argued, "he will say, `Why then did you not believe him?' | the baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men?` And they were reasoning with themselves, saying, `If we should say, From heaven; he will say to us, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him? | The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? But they thought within themselves, saying: |
Matthew 21:26 | and if we say `a human origin' we have the people to fear, for they all hold John to have been a Prophet." | and if we should say, From men, we fear the multitude, for all hold John as a prophet.` | If we shall say, from heaven, he will say to us: Why then did you not believe him? But if we shall say, from men, we are afraid of the multitude: for all held John as a prophet. |
Matthew 21:27 | So they answered Jesus, "We do not know." "Nor do I tell you," He replied, "by what authority I do these things." | And answering Jesus they said, `We have not known.` He said to them he also `Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things. | And answering Jesus, they said: We know not. He also said to them: Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things. |
Matthew 21:28 | "But give me your judgement. There was a man who had two sons. He came to the elder of them, and said, "`My son, go and work in the vineyard to-day.' | `And what think ye? A man had two children, and having come to the first, he said, Child, go, to-day be working in my vineyard.` | But what think you? A certain man had two sons; and coming to the first, he said: Son, go work to day in my vineyard. |
Matthew 21:29 | "`I will not,' he replied. "But afterwards he was sorry, and went. | And he answering said, `I will not,` but at last, having repented, he went. | And he answering, said: I will not. But afterwards, being moved with repentance, he went. |
Matthew 21:30 | He came to the second and spoke in the same manner. His answer was, "`I will go, Sir.' "But he did not go. | `And having come to the second, he said in the same manner, and he answering said, I [go], sir, and went not; | And coming to the other, he said in like manner. And he answering, said: I go, Sir; and he went not. |
Matthew 21:31 | Which of the two did as his father desired?" "The first," they said. "I solemnly tell you,' replied Jesus, "that the tax-gatherers and the notorious sinners are entering the Kingdom of God in front of you. | which of the two did the will of the father?` They say to him, `The first.` Jesus saith to them, `Verily I say to you, that the tax-gatherers and the harlots do go before you into the reign of God, | Which of the two did the father's will? They say to him: The first. Jesus saith to them: Amen I say to you, that the publicans and the harlots shall go into the kingdom of God before you. |
Matthew 21:32 | For John came to you observing all sorts of ritual, and you put no faith in him: the tax-gatherers and the notorious sinners did put faith in him, and you, though you saw this example set you, were not even afterwards sorry so as to believe him. | for John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye did not believe him, and the tax-gatherers and the harlots did believe him, and ye, having seen, repented not at last to believe him. | For John came to you in the way of justice, and you did not believe him. But the publicans and the harlots believed him: but you, seeing it, did not even afterwards repent, that you might believe him. |
Matthew 21:33 | "Listen to another parable. There was a householder who planted a vineyard, made a fence round it, dug a wine-tank in it, and built a strong lodge; then let the place to vine-dressers, and went abroad. | `Hear ye another simile: There was a certain man, a householder, who planted a vineyard, and did put a hedge round it, and digged in it a wine-press, and built a tower, and gave it out to husbandmen, and went abroad. | Hear ye another parable. There was a man an householder, who planted a vineyard, and made a hedge round about it, and dug in it a press, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen; and went into a strange country. |
Matthew 21:34 | When vintage-time approached, he sent his servants to the vine-dressers to receive his share of the grapes; | `And when the season of the fruits came nigh, he sent his servants unto the husbandmen, to receive the fruits of it, | And when the time of the fruits drew nigh, he sent his servants to the husbandmen that they might receive the fruits thereof. |
Matthew 21:35 | but the vine-dressers seized the servants, and one they cruelly beat, one they killed, one they pelted with stones. | and the husbandmen having taken his servants, one they scourged, and one they killed, and one they stoned. | And the husbandmen laying hands on his servants, beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. |
Matthew 21:36 | Again he sent another party of servants more numerous than the first; and these they treated in the same manner. | `Again he sent other servants more than the first, and they did to them in the same manner. | Again he sent other servants more than the former; and they did to them in like manner. |
Matthew 21:37 | Later still he sent to them his son, saying, "`They will respect my son.' | `And at last he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son; | And last of all he sent to them his son, saying: They will reverence my son. |
Matthew 21:38 | "But the vine-dressers, when they saw the son, said to one another, "`Here is the heir: come, let us kill him and get his inheritance.' | and the husbandmen having seen the son, said among themselves, This is the heir, come, we may kill him, and may possess his inheritance; | But the husbandmen seeing the son, said among themselves: This is the heir: come, let us kill him, and we shall have his inheritance. |
Matthew 21:39 | "So they seized him, dragged him out of the vineyard, and killed him. | and having taken him, they cast [him] out of the vineyard, and killed him; | And taking him, they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. |
Matthew 21:40 | When then the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-dressers?" | whenever therefore the lord of the vineyard may come, what will he do to these husbandmen?` | When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do to those husbandmen? |
Matthew 21:41 | "He will put the wretches to a wretched death," was the reply, "and will entrust the vineyard to other vine-dressers who will render the produce to him at the vintage season." | They say to him, `Evil men he will evilly destroy them, and the vineyard will give out to other husbandmen, who will give back to him the fruits in their seasons.` | They say to him: He will bring those evil men to an evil end; and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, that shall render him the fruit in due season. |
Matthew 21:42 | "Have you never read in the Scriptures," said Jesus, "`The Stone which the builders rejected has been made the Cornerstone: this Cornerstone came from the Lord, and is wonderful in our eyes'? | Jesus saith to them, `Did ye never read in the Writings, A stone that the builders disallowed, it became head of a corner; from the Lord hath this come to pass, and it is wonderful in our eyes. | Jesus saith to them: Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? By the Lord this has been done; and it is wonderful in our eyes. |
Matthew 21:43 | "That, I tell you, is the reason why the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and given to a nation that will exhibit the power of it. | `Because of this I say to you, that the reign of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth its fruit; | Therefore I say to you, that the kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and shall be given to a nation yielding the fruits thereof. |
Matthew 21:44 | He who falls on this stone will be severely hurt; but he on whom it falls will be utterly crushed." | and he who is falling on this stone shall be broken, and on whomsoever it may fall it will crush him to pieces.` | And whosoever shall fall on this stone, shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it shall grind him to powder. |
Matthew 21:45 | After listening to His parables the High Priests and the Pharisees perceived that He was speaking about them; | And the chief priests and the Pharisees having heard his similes, knew that of them he speaketh, | And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they knew that he spoke of them. |
Matthew 21:46 | but though they were eager to lay hands upon Him, they were afraid of the people, for by them He was regarded as a Prophet. | and seeking to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, seeing they were holding him as a prophet. | And seeking to lay hands on him, they feared the multitudes: because they held him as a prophet. |
