John 13:1 | Now just before the Feast of the Passover this incident took place. Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and go to the Father; and having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. | And before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour hath come, that he may remove out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own who [are] in the world to the end he loved them. | Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. |
John 13:2 | While supper was proceeding, the Devil having by this time suggested to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, the thought of betraying Him, Jesus, | And supper being come, the devil already having put [it] into the heart of Judas of Simon, Iscariot, that he may deliver him up, | And supper being ended (the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;) |
John 13:3 | although He knew that the Father had put everything into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was now going to God, | Jesus knowing that all things the Father hath given to him into [his] hands, and that from God he came forth, and unto God he goeth, | Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God, and was going to God; |
John 13:4 | rose from the table, threw off His upper garments, and took a towel and tied it round Him. | doth rise from the supper, and doth lay down his garments, and having taken a towel, he girded himself; | He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. |
John 13:5 | Then He poured water into a basin, and proceeded to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe them with the towel which He had put round Him. | afterward he putteth water into the basin, and began to wash the feet of his disciples, and to wipe with the towel with which he was being girded. | After that, he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded. |
John 13:6 | When He came to Simon Peter, Peter objected. "Master," he said, "are *you* going to wash my feet?" | He cometh, therefore, unto Simon Peter, and that one saith to him, `Sir, thou dost thou wash my feet?` | Then he cometh to Simon Peter: and Peter saith to him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? |
John 13:7 | "What I am doing," answered Jesus, "for the present you do not know, but afterwards you shall know." | Jesus answered and said to him, `That which I do thou hast not known now, but thou shalt know after these things;` | Jesus answered and said to him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. |
John 13:8 | "Never, while the world lasts," said Peter, "shall you wash my feet." "If I do not wash you," replied Jesus, "you have no share with me." | Peter saith to him, `Thou mayest not wash my feet to the age.` Jesus answered him, `If I may not wash thee, thou hast no part with me;` | Peter saith to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. |
John 13:9 | "Master," said Peter, "wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head." | Simon Peter saith to him, `Sir, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head.` | Simon Peter saith to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. |
John 13:10 | "Any one who has lately bathed," said Jesus, "does not need to wash more than his feet, but is clean all over. And you my disciples are clean, and yet this is not true of all of you." | Jesus saith to him, `He who hath been bathed hath no need save to wash his feet, but he is clean altogether; and ye are clean, but not all;` | Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is wholly clean: and ye are clean, but not all. |
John 13:11 | For He knew who was betraying Him, and that was why He said, "You are not all of you clean." | for he knew him who is delivering him up; because of this he said, `Ye are not all clean.` | For he knew who would betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. |
John 13:12 | So after He had washed their feet, put on His garments again, and returned to the table, He said to them, "Do you understand what I have done to you? | When, therefore, he washed their feet, and took his garments, having reclined (at meat) again, he said to them, `Do ye know what I have done to you? | So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said to them, Know ye what I have done to you? |
John 13:13 | You call me `The Rabbi' and `The Master,' and rightly so, for such I am. | ye call me, The Teacher and The Lord, and ye say well, for I am; | Ye call me Master, and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. |
John 13:14 | If I then, your Master and Rabbi, have washed your feet, it is also your duty to wash one another's feet. | if then I did wash your feet the Lord and the Teacher ye also ought to wash one another`s feet. | If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. |
John 13:15 | For I have set you an example in order that you may do what I have done to you. | `For an example I gave to you, that, according as I did to you, ye also may do; | For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. |
John 13:16 | In most solemn truth I tell you that a servant is not superior to his master, nor is a messenger superior to him who sent him. | verily, verily, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his lord, nor an apostle greater than he who sent him; | Verily, verily, I say to you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. |
John 13:17 | If you know all this, blessed are you if you act accordingly. | if these things ye have known, happy are ye, if ye may do them; | If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. |
John 13:18 | I am not speaking of all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but things are as they are in order that the Scripture may be fulfilled, which says, `He who eats my bread has lifted up his heel against me.' | not concerning you all do I speak; I have known whom I chose for myself; but that the Writing may be fulfilled: He who is eating the bread with me, did lift up against me his heel. | I speak not of you all; I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me, hath lifted up his heel against me. |
John 13:19 | From this time forward I tell you things before they happen, in order that when they do happen you may believe that I am He. | `From this time I tell you, before its coming to pass, that, when it may come to pass, ye may believe that I am [he]; | Now I tell you before it cometh, that when it hath come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. |
John 13:20 | In most solemn truth I tell you that he who receives whoever I send receives me, and that he who receives me receives Him who sent me." | verily, verily, I say to you, he who is receiving whomsoever I may send, doth receive me; and he who is receiving me, doth receive Him who sent me.` | Verily, verily, I say to you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send, receiveth me; and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me. |
John 13:21 | After speaking thus Jesus was troubled in spirit and said with deep earnestness, "In most solemn truth I tell you that one of you will betray me." | These things having said, Jesus was troubled in the spirit, and did testify, and said, `Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you will deliver me up;` | When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, that one of you will betray me. |
John 13:22 | The disciples began looking at one another, at a loss to know to which of them He was referring. | the disciples were looking, therefore, one at another, doubting concerning whom he speaketh. | Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spoke. |
John 13:23 | There was at table one of His disciples the one Jesus loved reclining with his head on Jesus's bosom. | And there was one of his disciples reclining (at meat) in the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus was loving; | Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom, one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. |
John 13:24 | Making a sign therefore to him, Simon Peter said, "Tell us to whom he is referring." | Simon Peter, then, doth beckon to this one, to inquire who he may be concerning whom he speaketh, | Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, to ask who it should be of whom he spoke. |
John 13:25 | So he, having his head on Jesus's bosom, leaned back and asked, "Master, who is it?" | and that one having leant back on the breast of Jesus, respondeth to him, `Sir, who is it?` | He then lying on Jesus' breast, saith to him, Lord, who is it? |
John 13:26 | "It is the one," answered Jesus, "for whom I shall dip this piece of bread and to whom I shall give it." Accordingly He dipped the piece of bread, and took it and gave it to Judas, the son of the Iscariot Simon. | Jesus answereth, `That one it is to whom I, having dipped the morsel, shall give it;` and having dipped the morsel, he giveth [it] to Judas of Simon, Iscariot. | Jesus answered, He it is to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. |
John 13:27 | Then, after Judas had received the piece of bread, Satan entered into him. "Lose no time about it," said Jesus to him. | And after the morsel, then the Adversary entered into that one, Jesus, therefore, saith to him, `What thou dost do quickly;` | And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus to him, What thou doest, do quickly. |
John 13:28 | But why He said this no one else at the table understood. | and none of those reclining at meat knew for what intent he said this to him, | Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spoke this to him. |
John 13:29 | Some, however, supposed that because Judas had the money-box Jesus meant, "Buy what we require for the Festival," or that he should give something to the poor. | for certain were thinking, since Judas had the bag, that Jesus saith to him, `Buy what we have need of for the feast;` or that he may give something to the poor; | For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said to him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. |
John 13:30 | So Judas took the piece of bread and immediately went out. And it was night. | having received, therefore, the morsel, that one immediately went forth, and it was night. | He then having received the sop, went immediately out: and it was night. |
John 13:31 | So when he was gone out, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him. | When, therefore, he went forth, Jesus saith, `Now was the Son of Man glorified, and God was glorified in him; | Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. |
John 13:32 | Moreover God will glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him without delay. | if God was glorified in him, God also will glorify him in Himself; yea, immediately He will glorify him. | If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and will immediately glorify him. |
John 13:33 | Dear children, I am still with you a little longer. You will seek me, but, as I said to the Jews, `Where I am going you cannot come,' so for the present I say to you. | `Little children, yet a little am I with you; ye will seek me, and, according as I said to the Jews Whither I go away, ye are not able to come, to you also I do say [it] now. | Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye will seek me: and, as I said to the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you. |
John 13:34 | A new commandment I give you, to love one another; that as I have loved you, you also may love one another. | `A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another; according as I did love you, that ye also love one another; | A new commandment I give to you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. |
John 13:35 | It is by this that every one will know that you are my disciples if you love one another." | in this shall all know that ye are my disciples, if ye may have love one to another.` | By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. |
John 13:36 | "Master," inquired Simon Peter, "where are you going?" "Where I am going," replied Jesus, "you cannot be my follower now, but you shall be later." | Simon Peter saith to him, `Sir, whither dost thou go away?` Jesus answered him, `Whither I go away, thou art not able now to follow me, but afterward thou shalt follow me.` | Simon Peter said to him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterward. |
John 13:37 | "Master," asked Peter again, "why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life on your behalf. | Peter saith to him, `Sir, wherefore am I not able to follow thee now? my life for thee I will lay down;` | Peter said to him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. |
John 13:38 | "You say you will lay down your life on my behalf!" said Jesus; "in most solemn truth I tell you that the cock will not crow before you have three times disowned me." | Jesus answered him, `Thy life for me thou wilt lay down! verily, verily, I say to thee, a cock will not crow till thou mayest deny me thrice.` | Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say to thee, The cock will not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice. |
