2nd-Peter 3:1This letter which I am now writing to you, dear friends, is my second letter. In both my letters I seek to revive in your honest minds the memory of certain things,This, now, beloved, a second letter to you I write, in both which I stir up your pure mind in reminding [you],This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you;
2nd-Peter 3:2so that you may recall the words spoken long ago by the holy Prophets, and the commandments of our Lord and Saviour given you through your Apostles.to be mindful of the sayings said before by the holy prophets, and of the command of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour,that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior:
2nd-Peter 3:3But, above all, remember that, in the last days, men will come who make a mock at everything men governed only by their own passions,this first knowing, that there shall come in the latter end of the days scoffers, according to their own desires going on,knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts,
2nd-Peter 3:4and, asking, "What has become of His promised Return? For from the time our forefathers fell asleep all things continue as they have been ever since the creation of the world."and saying, `Where is the promise of his presence? for since the fathers did fall asleep, all things so remain from the beginning of the creation;`and saying, "Where is the promise of his coming?" For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
2nd-Peter 3:5For they are wilfully blind to the fact that there were heavens which existed of old, and an earth, the latter arising out of water and extending continuously through water, by the command of God;for this is unobserved by them willingly, that the heavens were of old, and the earth out of water and through water standing together by the word of God,For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water, by the word of God;
2nd-Peter 3:6and that, by means of these, the then existing race of men was overwhelmed with water and perished.through which the then world, by water having been deluged, was destroyed;by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.
2nd-Peter 3:7But the present heavens and the present earth are, by the command of the same God, kept stored up, reserved for fire in preparation for a day of judgement and of destruction for the ungodly.and the present heavens and the earth, by the same word are treasured, for fire being kept to a day of judgment and destruction of the impious men.But the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
2nd-Peter 3:8But there is one thing, dear friends, which you must not forget. With the Lord one day resembles a thousand years and a thousand years resemble one day.And this one thing let not be unobserved by you, beloved, that one day with the Lord [is] as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day;But don't forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2nd-Peter 3:9The Lord is not slow in fulfilling His promise, in the sense in which some men speak of slowness. But He bears patiently with you, His desire being that no one should perish but that all should come to repentance.the Lord is not slow in regard to the promise, as certain count slowness, but is long-suffering to us, not counselling any to be lost but all to pass on to reformation,The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is longsuffering towards us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2nd-Peter 3:10The day of the Lord will come like a thief it will be a day on which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, the elements be destroyed in the fierce heat, and the earth and all the works of man be utterly burnt up.and it will come the day of the Lord as a thief in the night, in which the heavens with a rushing noise will pass away, and the elements with burning heat be dissolved, and earth and the works in it shall be burnt up.But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
2nd-Peter 3:11Since all these things are thus pre-destined to dissolution, what sort of men ought you to be found to be in all holy living and godly conduct,All these, then, being dissolved, what kind of persons doth it behove you to be in holy behaviours and pious acts?Therefore since all these things are thus to be destroyed, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy living and godliness,
2nd-Peter 3:12eagerly looking forward to the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens, all ablaze, will be destroyed, and the elements will melt in the fierce heat?waiting for and hasting to the presence of the day of God, by which the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements with burning heat shall melt;looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire will be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
2nd-Peter 3:13But in accordance with His promise we are expecting new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness will dwell.and for new heavens and a new earth according to His promise we do wait, in which righteousness doth dwell;But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which dwells righteousness.
2nd-Peter 3:14Therefore, dear friends, since you have these expectations, earnestly seek to be found in His presence, free from blemish or reproach, in peace.wherefore, beloved, these things waiting for, be diligent, spotless and unblameable, by Him to be found in peace,Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without blemish and blameless in his sight.
2nd-Peter 3:15And always regard the patient forbearance of our Lord as salvation, as our dear brother Paul also has written to you in virtue of the wisdom granted to him.and the long-suffering of our Lord count ye salvation, according as also our beloved brother Paul according to the wisdom given to him did write to you,Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you;
2nd-Peter 3:16That is what he says in all his letters, when speaking in them of these things. In those letters there are some statements hard to understand, which ill-taught and unprincipled people pervert, just as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own ruin.as also in all the epistles, speaking in them concerning these things, among which things are certain hard to be understood, which the untaught and unstable do wrest, as also the other Writings, unto their own destruction.as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they do also to the other scriptures, to their own destruction.
2nd-Peter 3:17You, therefore, dear friends, having been warned beforehand, must continually be on your guard so as not to be led astray by the false teaching of immoral men nor fall from your own stedfastness.Ye, then, beloved, knowing before, take heed, lest, together with the error of the impious being led away, ye may fall from your own stedfastness,You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.
2nd-Peter 3:18But be always growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be all glory, both now and to the day of Eternity!and increase ye in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; to him [is] the glory both now, and to the day of the age! Amen.But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
