Hebrews 4:1Therefore let us be on our guard lest perhaps, while He still leaves us a promise of being admitted to His rest, some one of you should be found to have fallen short of it.We may fear, then, lest a promise being left of entering into His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short,Let us fear therefore, lest perhaps a promise being left of entering into his rest, anyone of you should seem to have come short of it.
Hebrews 4:2For Good News has been brought to us as truly as to them; but the message they heard failed to benefit them, because they were not one in faith with those who gave heed to it.for we also are having good news proclaimed, even as they, but the word heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard,For indeed we have had good news preached to us, even as also they, but the word of hearing did not profit them, because it was not mixed with faith by those who heard.
Hebrews 4:3We who have believed are soon to be admitted to the true rest; as He has said, "As I swore in My anger, they shall not be admitted to My rest," although God's works had been going on ever since the creation of the world.for we do enter into the rest we who did believe, as He said, `So I sware in My anger, If they shall enter into My rest ;` and yet the works were done from the foundation of the world,For we who have believed do enter into that rest, even as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, They will not enter into my rest;" although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Hebrews 4:4For, as we know, when speaking of the seventh day He has used the words, "And God rested on the seventh day from all His works;"for He spake in a certain place concerning the seventh [day] thus: `And God did rest in the seventh day from all His works;`For he has said somewhere about the seventh day like this, "God rested on the seventh day from all his works;"
Hebrews 4:5and He has also declared, "They shall not be admitted to My rest."and in this [place] again, `If they shall enter into My rest ;`and in this place again, "They will not enter into my rest."
Hebrews 4:6Since, then, it is still true that some will be admitted to that rest, and that because of disobedience those who formerly had Good News proclaimed to them were not admitted, since then, it remaineth for certain to enter into it, and those who did first hear good news entered not in because of unbeliefSeeing therefore it remains that some should enter therein, and they to whom the good news were before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience,
Hebrews 4:7He again definitely mentions a certain day, "To-day," saying long afterwards, by David's lips, in the words already quoted, "To-day, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts."again He doth limit a certain day, `To-day,` (in David saying, after so long a time,) as it hath been said, `To-day, if His voice ye may hear, ye may not harden your hearts,`he again defines a certain day, today, saying through David so long a time afterward (just as has been said), "Today if you will hear his voice, Don't harden your hearts."
Hebrews 4:8For if Joshua had given them the true rest, we should not afterwards hear God speaking of another still future day.for if Joshua had given them rest, He would not concerning another day have spoken after these things; For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day.
Hebrews 4:9It follows that there still remains a sabbath rest for the people of God.there doth remain, then, a sabbatic rest to the people of God,There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
Hebrews 4:10For He who has been admitted to His rest, has rested from His works as God did from His.for he who did enter into his rest, he also rested from his works, as God from His own.For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.
Hebrews 4:11Let it then be our earnest endeavour to be admitted to that rest, so that no one may perish through following the same example of unbelief.May we be diligent, then, to enter into that rest, that no one in the same example of the unbelief may fall,Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.
Hebrews 4:12For God's Message is full of life and power, and is keener than the sharpest two-edged sword. It pierces even to the severance of soul from spirit, and penetrates between the joints and the marrow, and it can discern the secret thoughts and purposes of the heart.for the reckoning of God is living, and working, and sharp above every two-edged sword, and piercing unto the dividing asunder both of soul and spirit, of joints also and marrow, and a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart; For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:13And no created thing is able to escape its scrutiny; but everything lies bare and completely exposed before the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.and there is not a created thing not manifest before Him, but all things [are] naked and open to His eyes with whom is our reckoning. There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
Hebrews 4:14Inasmuch, then, as we have in Jesus, the Son of God, a great High Priest who has passed into Heaven itself, let us hold firmly to our profession of faith.Having, then, a great chief priest passed through the heavens Jesus the Son of God may we hold fast the profession,Having then a great high priest, who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold tightly to our confession.
Hebrews 4:15For we have not a High Priest who is unable to feel for us in our weaknesses, but one who was tempted in every respect just as we are tempted, and yet did not sin.for we have not a chief priest unable to sympathise with our infirmities, but [one] tempted in all things in like manner apart from sin;For we don't have a high priest who can't be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 4:16Therefore let us come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our times of need.we may come near, then, with freedom, to the throne of the grace, that we may receive kindness, and find grace for seasonable help.Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for timely help.
