| Matthew 13:19 | When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and doesn't understand it, the evil one comes, and snatches away that which has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown by the roadside. | When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, [then] cometh the evil [one], and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side. | When a man hears the Message concerning the Kingdom and does not understand it, the Evil one comes and catches away what has been sown in his heart. This is he who has received the seed by the road-side. |
| Matthew 13:20 | What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the word, and immediately with joy receives it; | And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it; | He who has received the seed on the rocky ground is the man who hears the Message and immediately receives it with joy. |

When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. | yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth. | It has struck no root, however, within him.
