John 4:1Therefore when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than JohnNow when it was clear to the Lord that word had come to the ears of the Pharisees that Jesus was making more disciples than John and was giving them baptismWhen therefore the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus makes and baptises more disciples than John
John 4:2(although Jesus himself didn't baptize, but his disciples),(Though, in fact, it was his disciples who gave baptism, not Jesus himself),(however, Jesus himself did not baptise, but his disciples),
John 4:3he left Judea, and departed again into Galilee.He went out of Judaea into Galilee again.he left Judaea and went away again unto Galilee.
John 4:4He needed to pass through Samaria.And it was necessary for him to go through Samaria.And he must needs pass through Samaria.
John 4:5So he came to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son, Joseph.So he came to a town of Samaria which was named Sychar, near to the bit of land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph:He comes therefore to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near to the land which Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
John 4:6Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being tired from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.Now Jacob's fountain was there. Jesus, being tired after his journey, was resting by the fountain. It was about the sixth hour.Now a fountain of Jacob's was there; Jesus therefore, being wearied with the way he had come, sat just as he was at the fountain. It was about the sixth hour.
John 4:7A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink."A woman of Samaria came to get water, and Jesus said to her, Give me some water.A woman comes out of Samaria to draw water. Jesus says to her, Give me to drink
John 4:8For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.For his disciples had gone to the town to get food.(for his disciples had gone away into the city that they might buy provisions).
John 4:9The Samaritan woman therefore said to him, "How is it that you, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)The woman of Samaria said to him, Why do you, a Jew, make a request for water to me, a woman of Samaria? She said this because Jews have nothing to do with the people of Samaria.The Samaritan woman therefore says to him, How dost thou, being a Jew, ask to drink of me who am a Samaritan woman? for Jews have no intercourse with Samaritans.
John 4:10Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."In answer Jesus said, If you had knowledge of what God gives freely and who it is who says to you, Give me water, you would make your prayer to him, and he would give you living water.Jesus answered and said to her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that says to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
John 4:11The woman said to him, "Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From where then have you that living water?The woman said to him, Sir, you have no vessel and the fountain is deep; from where will you get the living water?The woman says to him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou the living water?
John 4:12Are you greater than our father, Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, as did his sons, and his cattle?"Are you greater than our father Jacob who gave us the fountain and took the water of it himself, with his children and his cattle?Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his sons, and his cattle?
John 4:13Jesus answered her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,Jesus said to her, Everyone who takes this water will be in need of it again:Jesus answered and said to her, Every one who drinks of this water shall thirst again;
John 4:14but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."But whoever takes the water I give him will never be in need of drink again; for the water I give him will become in him a fountain of eternal life.but whosoever drinks of the water which I shall give him shall never thirst for ever, but the water which I shall give him shall become in him a fountain of water, springing up into eternal life.
John 4:15The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I don't get thirsty, neither come all the way here to draw."The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be in need again of drink and will not have to come all this way for it.The woman says to him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst nor come here to draw.
John 4:16Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here."Jesus said to her, Go, get your husband and come back here with him.Jesus says to her, Go, call thy husband, and come here.
John 4:17The woman answered, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You said well, 'I have no husband,'In answer, the woman said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have said rightly, I have no husband:The woman answered and said, I have not a husband. Jesus says to her, Thou hast well said, I have not a husband;
John 4:18for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly."You have had five husbands, and the man you have now is not your husband: that was truly said.for thou hast had five husbands, and he whom now thou hast is not thy husband: this thou hast spoken truly.
John 4:19The woman said to him, "Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.The woman said to him, Sir, I see that you are a prophet.The woman says to him, Sir, I see that thou art a prophet.
John 4:20Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship."Our fathers gave worship on this mountain, but you Jews say that the right place for worship is in Jerusalem.Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship.
John 4:21Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, will you worship the Father.Jesus said to her, Woman, take my word for this; the time is coming when you will not give worship to the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.Jesus says to her, Woman, believe me, [the] hour is coming when ye shall neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem worship the Father.
John 4:22You worship that which you don't know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.You give worship, but without knowledge of what you are worshipping: we give worship to what we have knowledge of: for salvation comes from the Jews.Ye worship ye know not what; we worship what we know, for salvation is of the Jews.
John 4:23But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshippers.But the time is coming, and is even now here, when the true worshippers will give worship to the Father in the true way of the spirit, for these are the worshippers desired by the Father.But [the] hour is coming and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for also the Father seeks such as his worshippers.
John 4:24God is a Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."God is Spirit: then let his worshippers give him worship in the true way of the spirit.God [is] a spirit; and they who worship him must worship [him] in spirit and truth.
John 4:25The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah comes," (he who is called Christ). "When he has come, he will declare to us all things."The woman said to him, I am certain that the Messiah, who is named Christ, is coming; when he comes he will make all things clear to us.The woman says to him, I know that Messias is coming, who is called Christ; when *he* comes he will tell us all things.
John 4:26Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am he."Jesus said to her, I, who am talking to you, am he.Jesus says to her, I who speak to thee am [he].
John 4:27At this, his disciples came. They marveled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no one said, "What are you looking for?" or, "Why do you speak with her?"At that point the disciples came back, and they were surprised to see him talking to a woman; but not one of them said to him, What is your purpose? or, Why are you talking to her?And upon this came his disciples, and wondered that he spoke with a woman; yet no one said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?
John 4:28So the woman left her water pot, and went away into the city, and said to the people,Then the woman put down her water-pot and went into the town, and said to the people,The woman then left her waterpot and went away into the city, and says to the men,
John 4:29"Come, see a man who told me everything that I did. Can this be the Christ?"Come and see a man who has been talking to me of everything I ever did! Is it possible that this is the Christ?Come, see a man who told me all things I had ever done: is not he the Christ?
John 4:30They went out of the city, and were coming to him.So they went out of the town and came to him.They went out of the city and came to him.
John 4:31In the meanwhile, the disciples urged him, saying, "Rabbi, eat."While this was taking place, the disciples were saying to Jesus, Master, take some food.But meanwhile the disciples asked him saying, Rabbi, eat.
John 4:32But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you don't know about."But he said to them, I have food of which you have no knowledge.But he said to them, I have food to eat which ye do not know.
John 4:33The disciples therefore said one to another, "Has anyone brought him something to eat?"So the disciples said one to another, Did anyone give him food?The disciples therefore said to one another, Has any one brought him [anything] to eat?
John 4:34Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.Jesus said, My food is to do the pleasure of him who sent me and to make his work complete.Jesus says to them, My food is that I should do the will of him that has sent me, and that I should finish his work.
John 4:35Don't you say, 'There are yet four months until the harvest?' Behold, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and look at the fields, that they are white already to harvest.You would say, Four months from now is the time of the grain-cutting. Take a look, I say to you, at the fields; they are even now white for cutting.Do not ye say, that there are yet four months and the harvest comes? Behold, I say to you, Lift up your eyes and behold the fields, for they are already white to harvest.
John 4:36He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit to eternal life; that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.He who does the cutting now has his reward; he is getting together fruit for eternal life, so that he who did the planting and he who gets in the grain may have joy together.He that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto life eternal, that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together.
John 4:37For in this the saying is true, 'One sows, and another reaps.'In this the saying is a true one, One does the planting, and another gets in the grain.For in this is [verified] the true saying, It is one who sows and another who reaps.
John 4:38I sent you to reap that for which you haven't labored. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor."I sent you to get in grain which you had no hand in planting: other men did that work, and you take the reward.I have sent you to reap that on which ye have not laboured; others have laboured, and ye have entered into their labours.
John 4:39From that city many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of the woman, who testified, 'He told me everything that I did."Now a number of the people of that town had faith in him because of the woman's witness: He has been talking to me of everything I ever did.But many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of the word of the woman who bore witness, He told me all things that I had ever done.
John 4:40So when the Samaritans came to him, they begged him to stay with them. He stayed there two days.So when the people came to him they made request to him to be among them for a time, and he was there two days.When therefore the Samaritans came to him they asked him to abide with them, and he abode there two days.
John 4:41Many more believed because of his word.And a great number more of them came to have faith in him because of what he himself said.And more a great deal believed on account of his word;
John 4:42They said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of your speaking; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."And they said to the woman, Now we have faith, but not because of your story: we ourselves have given ear to his words, and we are certain that he is truly the Saviour of the world.and they said to the woman, [It is] no longer on account of thy saying that we believe, for we have heard him ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.
John 4:43After the two days he went forth from there and went into Galilee.And after the two days he went on from there into Galilee.But after the two days he went forth thence and went away into Galilee,
John 4:44For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.For Jesus himself said that a prophet has no honour in the country of his birth.for Jesus himself bore witness that a prophet has no honour in his own country.
John 4:45So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast, for they also went to the feast.So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans took him to their hearts because of the things which they had seen him do in Jerusalem at the feast they themselves having been there at the feast.When therefore he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem during the feast, for they also went to the feast.
John 4:46He came therefore again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water into wine. There was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.So he came to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain man of high position whose son was ill at Capernaum.He came therefore again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain courtier in Capernaum whose son was sick.
John 4:47When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and begged him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.When it came to his ears that Jesus had come from Judaea into Galilee, he went to him and made a request that he would come down to his son, who was near to death, and make him well.He, having heard that Jesus had come out of Judaea into Galilee, went to him and asked [him] that he would come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.
John 4:48Jesus therefore said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders, you will in no way believe."Then Jesus said to him, You will not have faith if you do not see signs and wonders.Jesus therefore said to him, Unless ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe.
John 4:49The nobleman said to him, "Sir, come down before my child dies."The man said, Sir, come down before my boy is dead.The courtier says to him, Sir, come down ere my child die.
John 4:50Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your son lives." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.And Jesus said, Go in peace; your son is living. The man had faith in the word which Jesus said to him and went away.Jesus says to him, Go, thy son lives. And the man believed the word which Jesus said to him, and went his way.
John 4:51As he was now going down, his servants met him and reported, saying "your child lives!"And while he was going down, his servants came to him and said, Your boy is living.But already, as he was going down, his servants met him and brought [him] word saying, Thy child lives.
John 4:52So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. They said therefore to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him."So he put a question to them as to the hour when he became better; and they said to him, The disease went from him yesterday at the seventh hour.He inquired therefore from them the hour at which he got better. And they said to him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.
John 4:53So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives." He believed, as did his whole house.It was clear then to the father that this was the very time at which Jesus said to him, Your son is living. And he had faith in Jesus, he and all his family.The father therefore knew that [it was] in that hour in which Jesus said to him, Thy son lives; and he believed, himself and his whole house.
John 4:54This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judea into Galilee.Now this is the second sign which Jesus did after he had come out of Judaea into Galilee.This second sign again did Jesus, being come out of Judaea into Galilee.
