1st-Peter 5:1 | I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and who will also share in the glory that will be revealed. | I who am myself one of the rulers of the church, and a witness of the death of Christ, having my part in the coming glory, send this serious request to the chief men among you: | So I exhort the Elders among you I who am their fellow Elder and have been an eye-witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and am also a sharer in the glory which is soon to be revealed. |
1st-Peter 5:2 | Tend the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly; | Keep watch over the flock of God which is in your care, using your authority, not as forced to do so, but gladly; and not for unclean profit but with a ready mind; | Be shepherds of God's flock which is among you. Exercise the oversight not reluctantly but eagerly, in accordance with the will of God; not for base gain but with cheerful minds; |
1st-Peter 5:3 | neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock. | Not as lords over God's heritage, but making yourselves examples to the flock. | not lording it over your Churches but proving yourselves patterns for the flock to imitate. |
1st-Peter 5:4 | When the chief Shepherd will be revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn't fade away. | And at the coming of the chief Keeper of the sheep, you will be given the eternal crown of glory. | And then, when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the never-withering wreath of glory. |
1st-Peter 5:5 | Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." | And in the same way, let the younger men be ruled by the older ones. Let all of you put away pride and make yourselves ready to be servants: for God is a hater of pride, but he gives grace to those who make themselves low. | In the same way you younger men must submit to your elders; and all of you must gird yourselves with humility towards one another, for God sets Himself against the proud, but gives grace to the humble. |
1st-Peter 5:6 | Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; | For this cause make yourselves low under the strong hand of God, so that when the time comes you may be lifted up; | Humble yourselves therefore beneath the mighty hand of God, so that at the right time He may set you on high. |
1st-Peter 5:7 | casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. | Putting all your troubles on him, for he takes care of you. | Throw the whole of your anxiety upon Him, because He Himself cares for you. |
1st-Peter 5:8 | Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. | Be serious and keep watch; the Evil One, who is against you, goes about like a lion with open mouth in search of food; | Curb every passion, and be on the alert. Your great accuser, the Devil, is going about like a roaring lion to see whom he can devour. |
1st-Peter 5:9 | Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings. | Do not give way to him but be strong in your faith, in the knowledge that your brothers who are in the world undergo the same troubles. | Withstand him, firm in your faith; knowing that your brethren in other parts of the world are passing through just the same experiences. |
1st-Peter 5:10 | But may the God of all grace (who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus), after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. | And after you have undergone pain for a little time, the God of all grace who has given you a part in his eternal glory through Christ Jesus, will himself give you strength and support, and make you complete in every good thing; | And God, the giver of all grace, who has called you to share His eternal glory, through Christ, after you have suffered for a short time, will Himself make you perfect, firm, and strong. |
1st-Peter 5:11 | To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen. | His is the power for ever. So be it. | To Him be all power unto the Ages of the Ages! Amen. |
1st-Peter 5:12 | Through Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand. | I have sent you this short letter by Silvanus, a true brother, in my opinion; comforting you and witnessing that this is the true grace of God; keep to it. | I send this short letter by Silas, our faithful brother for such I regard him in order to encourage you, and to bear witness that what I have told you is the true grace of God. In it stand fast. |
1st-Peter 5:13 | She who is in Babylon, elect together with you, greets you; and so does Mark, my son. | She who is in Babylon, who has a part with you in the purpose of God, sends you her love; and so does my son Mark. | The Church in Babylon, chosen like yourselves by God, sends greetings, and so does Mark my son. |
1st-Peter 5:14 | Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen. | Give one another the kiss of love. Peace be to you all in Christ. | Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with all of you who are in Christ. |
