| Numbers 3:1 | Now this is the history of the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that Yahweh spoke with Moses in Mount Sinai. | Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses, in the day when the word of the Lord came to Moses on Mount Sinai. | |
| Numbers 3:2 | These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. | These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the oldest, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. | |
| Numbers 3:3 | These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests who were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office. | These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests, on whom the holy oil was put, who were marked out as priests. | |

| Numbers 3:6 | Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him. | Make the tribe of Levi come near, and put them before Aaron the priest, to be his helpers, | |
| Numbers 3:7 | They shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tent. | In order that they may be responsible to him and to all Israel for the care of the Tent of meeting, and to do the work of the House; | |
| Numbers 3:8 | They shall keep all the furniture of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tent. | And they will have the care of all the vessels of the Tent of meeting, and will do for the children of Israel all the necessary work of the House. | |
| Numbers 3:9 | You shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons: they are wholly given to him on the behalf of the children of Israel. | Give the Levites to Aaron and his sons; so that they may be his without question from among the children of Israel. | |
| Numbers 3:10 | You shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their priesthood: and the stranger who comes near shall be put to death. | And give orders that Aaron and his sons are to keep their place as priests; any strange person who comes near is to be put to death. | |

| Numbers 3:12 | I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn who opens the womb among the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine: | See, I have taken the Levites out of the children of Israel to be mine in place of the first sons of the children of Israel; | |
| Numbers 3:13 | for all the firstborn are mine; on the day that I struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I made holy to me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and animal; mine they shall be: I am Yahweh. | For all the first sons are mine; on the day when I put to death all the first sons in the land of Egypt, I took for myself every first male birth of man and beast. They are mine; I am the Lord. | |
| Numbers 3:14 | Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, | And the Lord said to Moses in the waste land of Sinai, | |
| Numbers 3:15 | Number the children of Levi by their fathers' houses, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shall you number them. | Let all the children of Levi be numbered by their families and their fathers' houses; let every male of a month old and over be numbered. | |
| Numbers 3:16 | Moses numbered them according to the word of Yahweh, as he was commanded. | So Moses did as the Lord said, numbering them as he had been ordered. | |

| Numbers 3:21 | Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites, and the family of the Shimeites: these are the families of the Gershonites. | From Gershon come the Libnites and the Shimeites; these are the families of the Gershonites. | |

| Numbers 3:25 | The charge of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting shall be the tent, and the Tent, the covering of it, and the screen for the door of the tent of meeting, | In the Tent of meeting, the Gershonites are to have the care of the House, and the Tent with its cover, and the veil for the door of the Tent of meeting, | |
| Numbers 3:26 | and the hangings of the court, and the screen for the door of the court, which is by the tent, and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service of it. | And the hangings for the open space round the House and the altar, and the curtain for its doorway, and all the cords needed for its use. | |
| Numbers 3:27 | Of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: these are the families of the Kohathites. | From Kohath come the Amramites and the Izharites and the Hebronites and the Uzzielites; these are the families of the Kohathites. | |
| Numbers 3:28 | According to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, there were eight thousand and six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary. | Those who were numbered of them, the males from one month old and over, were eight thousand, six hundred, who were responsible for the care of the holy place. | |

| Numbers 3:32 | Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be prince of the princes of the Levites, [and have] the oversight of those who keep the charge of the sanctuary. | Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, will be head over all the Levites and overseer of those responsible for the care of the holy place. | |
| Numbers 3:33 | Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites, and the family of the Mushites: these are the families of Merari. | From Merari come the Mahlites and the Mushites; these are the families of Merari. | |

| Numbers 3:38 | Those who encamp before the tent eastward, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the children of Israel; and the stranger who comes near shall be put to death. | And those whose tents are to be placed on the east side of the House in front of the Tent of meeting, looking to the dawn, are Moses and Aaron and his sons, who will do the work of the holy place for the children of Israel; and any strange person who comes near will be put to death. | |
| Numbers 3:39 | All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of Yahweh, by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty-two thousand. | All the Levites numbered by Moses and Aaron at the order of the Lord, all the males of one month old and over numbered in the order of their families, were twenty-two thousand. | |

| Numbers 3:46 | For the redemption of the two hundred seventy-three of the firstborn of the children of Israel, that are over and above [the number of] the Levites, | And the price you have to give for the two hundred and seventy-three first sons of the children of Israel which are in addition to the number of the Levites, | |
| Numbers 3:47 | you shall take five shekels apiece by the poll; after the shekel of the sanctuary shall you take them (the shekel is twenty gerahs): | Will be five shekels for every one, by the scale of the holy place (the shekel is twenty gerahs); | |
