Genesis 35:1 | God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother." | And God said to Jacob, Go up now to Beth-el and make your living-place there: and put up an altar there to the God who came to you when you were in flight from your brother Esau. | And God saith unto Jacob, `Rise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared unto thee in thy fleeing from the face of Esau thy brother.` |
Genesis 35:2 | Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments. | Then Jacob said to all his people, Put away the strange gods which are among you, and make yourselves clean, and put on a change of clothing: | And Jacob saith unto his household, and unto all who [are] with him, `Turn aside the gods of the stranger which [are] in your midst, and cleanse yourselves, and change your garments; |
Genesis 35:3 | Let us arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went." | And let us go up to Beth-el: and there I will make an altar to God, who gave me an answer in the day of my trouble, and was with me wherever I went. | and we rise, and go up to Bethel, and I make there an altar to God, who is answering me in the day of my distress, and is with me in the way that I have gone.` |
Genesis 35:4 | They gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. | Then they gave to Jacob all the strange gods which they had, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob put them away under the holy tree at Shechem. | And they give unto Jacob all the gods of the stranger that [are] in their hand, and the rings that [are] in their ears, and Jacob hideth them under the oak which [is] by Shechem; |
Genesis 35:5 | They journeyed: and a terror of God was on the cities that were round about them, and they didn't pursue the sons of Jacob. | So they went on their journey: and the fear of God was on the towns round about, so that they made no attack on the sons of Jacob. | and they journey, and the terror of God is on the cities which [are] round about them, and they have not pursued after the sons of Jacob. |
Genesis 35:6 | So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan (the same is Bethel), he and all the people who were with him. | And Jacob came to Luz in the land of Canaan (which is the same as Beth-el), he and all his people. | And Jacob cometh in to Luz which [is] in the land of Canaan (it [is] Bethel), he and all the people who [are] with him, |
Genesis 35:7 | He built an altar there, and called the place El-beth-el; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother. | And there he made an altar, naming the place El-beth-el: because it was there he had the vision of God when he was in flight from his brother. | and he buildeth there an altar, and proclaimeth at the place the God of Bethel: for there had God been revealed unto him, in his fleeing from the face of his brother. |
Genesis 35:8 | Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; and the name of it was called Allon-bacuth. | And Deborah, the servant who had taken care of Rebekah from her birth, came to her end, and was put to rest near Beth-el, under the holy tree: and they gave it the name of Allon-bacuth. | And Deborah, Rebekah`s nurse, dieth, and she is buried at the lower part of Bethel, under the oak, and he calleth its name `Oak of weeping.` |
Genesis 35:9 | God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan-aram, and blessed him. | Now when Jacob was on his way from Paddan-aram, God came to him again and, blessing him, said, | And God appeareth unto Jacob again, in his coming from Padan-Aram, and blesseth him; |
Genesis 35:10 | God said to him, "Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be Jacob any more, but your name will be Israel." He named him Israel. | Jacob is your name, but it will be so no longer; from now your name will be Israel; so he was named Israel. | and God saith to him, `Thy name [is] Jacob: thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel is thy name;` and He calleth his name Israel. |
Genesis 35:11 | God said to him, "I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your loins. | And God said to him, I am God, the Ruler of all: be fertile, and have increase; a nation, truly a group of nations, will come from you, and kings will be your offspring; | And God saith to him, `I [am] God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply, a nation and an assembly of nations is from thee, and kings from thy loins go out; |
Genesis 35:12 | The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and to your seed after you will I give the land." | And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give to you; and to your seed after you I will give the land. | and the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac to thee I give it, yea to thy seed after thee I give the land.` |
Genesis 35:13 | God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him. | Then God went up from him in the place where he had been talking with him. | And God goeth up from him, in the place where He hath spoken with him. |
Genesis 35:14 | Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink-offering on it, and poured oil on it. | And Jacob put up a pillar in the place where he had been talking with God, and put a drink offering on it, and oil. | And Jacob setteth up a standing pillar in the place where He hath spoken with him, a standing pillar of stone, and he poureth on it an oblation, and he poureth on it oil; |
Genesis 35:15 | Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him "Bethel." | And he gave to the place where God had been talking with him, the name of Beth-el. | and Jacob calleth the name of the place where God spake with him Bethel. |
Genesis 35:16 | They journeyed from Bethel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labor. | So they went on from Beth-el; and while they were still some distance from Ephrath, the pains of birth came on Rachel and she had a hard time. | And they journey from Bethel, and there is yet a kibrath of land before entering Ephratha, and Rachel beareth, and is sharply pained in her bearing; |
Genesis 35:17 | It happened that, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, "Don't be afraid, for now you will have another son." | And when her pain was very great, the woman who was helping her said, Have no fear; for now you will have another son. | and it cometh to pass, in her being sharply pained in her bearing, that the midwife saith to her, `Fear not, for this also [is] a son for thee.` |
Genesis 35:18 | It happened, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni, but his father named him Benjamin. | And in the hour when her life went from her (for death came to her), she gave the child the name Ben-oni: but his father gave him the name of Benjamin. | And it cometh to pass in the going out of her soul (for she died), that she calleth his name Ben-Oni; and his father called him Benjamin; |
Genesis 35:19 | Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath (the same is Beth-lehem). | So Rachel came to her end and was put to rest on the road to Ephrath (which is Beth-lehem). | and Rachel dieth, and is buried in the way to Ephratha, which [is] Bethlehem, |
Genesis 35:20 | Jacob set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel's grave to this day. | And Jacob put up a pillar on her resting-place; which is named, The Pillar of the resting-place of Rachel, to this day. | and Jacob setteth up a standing pillar over her grave; which [is] the standing pillar of Rachel`s grave unto this day. |
Genesis 35:21 | Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder. | And Israel went journeying on and put up his tents on the other side of the tower of the flock. | And Israel journeyeth, and stretcheth out his tent beyond the tower of Edar; |
Genesis 35:22 | It happened, while Israel lived in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve. | Now while they were living in that country, Reuben had connection with Bilhah, his father's servant-woman: and Israel had news of it. | and it cometh to pass in Israel`s dwelling in that land, that Reuben goeth, and lieth with Bilhah his father`s concubine; and Israel heareth. |
Genesis 35:23 | The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob's firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun. | Now Jacob had twelve sons: the sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob's first son, and Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulun; | And the sons of Jacob are twelve. Sons of Leah: Jacob`s first-born Reuben, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun. |

Genesis 35:26 | The sons of Zilpah (Leah's handmaid): Gad and Asher. Genesis 35:27 | Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac sojourned. | And Jacob came to his father Isaac at Mamre, at Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac had been living. | And Jacob cometh unto Isaac his father, at Mamre, the city of Arba (which [is] Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac have sojourned. |
Genesis 35:28 | The days of Isaac were one hundred eighty years. | And Isaac was a hundred and eighty years old. | And the days of Isaac are a hundred and eighty years, |
Genesis 35:29 | Isaac gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esau and Jacob, his sons, buried him. | Then Isaac came to his end and was put to rest with his father's people, an old man after a long life: and Jacob and Esau, his sons, put him in his last resting-place. | and Isaac expireth, and dieth, and is gathered unto his people, aged and satisfied with days; and bury him do Esau and Jacob his sons. |
