Acts 14:3Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who testified to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. They stayed therefore a good while, speaking boldly, [confiding] in the Lord, who gave witness to the word of his grace, giving signs and wonders to be done by their hands. So they kept there for a long time, taking heart in the Lord, who gave witness to the word of his grace by causing signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
Acts 14:4But the multitude of the city was divided. Part sided with the Jews, and part with the apostles. And the multitude of the city was divided, and some were with the Jews and some with the apostles. But there was a division among the people of the town; some were on the side of the Jews and some on the side of the Apostles.
Acts 14:5When some of both the Gentiles and the Jews, with their rulers, made a violent attempt to insult them and to stone them,And when an assault was making, both of [those of] the nations and [the] Jews with their rulers, to use [them] ill and stone them,And when a violent attempt was made by the Gentiles and the Jews, with their rulers, to make an attack on them and have them stoned,
Acts 14:6they became aware of it, and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, Derbe, and the surrounding region.they, being aware of it, fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding country,Having got news of it, they went in flight to the towns of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and the country round about:
Acts 14:7There they preached the gospel.and there they were announcing the glad tidings. And went on preaching the good news there.
Acts 14:8At Lystra a certain man sat, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked. And a certain man in Lystra, impotent in his feet, sat, [being] lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked. And at Lystra there was a certain man, who from birth had been without the use of his feet, never having had the power of walking.
Acts 14:9He was listening to Paul speaking, who, fastening eyes on him, and seeing that he had faith to be made whole,This [man] heard Paul speaking, who, fixing his eyes on him, and seeing that he had faith to be healed,This man was giving ear to the preaching of Paul, who, looking at him, and seeing that he had faith to be made well,
Acts 14:10said with a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet!" He leaped up and walked.said with a loud voice, Rise up straight upon thy feet: and he sprang up and walked.Said in a loud voice, Get up on your feet. And, jumping up, he went walking about.
Acts 14:11When the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the language of Lycaonia, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!"But the crowds, who saw what Paul had done, lifted up their voices in Lycaonian, saying, The gods, having made themselves like men, are come down to us.And when the people saw what Paul had done, they said in a loud voice, in the language of Lycaonia, The gods have come down to us in the form of men.
Acts 14:12They called Barnabas "Jupiter," and Paul "Mercury," because he was the chief speaker. And they called Barnabas Jupiter, and Paul Mercury, because he took the lead in speaking. And they gave the name of Jupiter to Barnabas, and to Paul that of Mercury, because he was the chief talker.
Acts 14:13The priest of Jupiter, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and would have made a sacrifice with the multitudes. And the priest of Jupiter who was before the city, having brought bulls and garlands to the gates, would have done sacrifice along with the crowds. And the priest of the image of Jupiter, which was before the town, took oxen and flowers to the doors of the town, and was about to make an offering with the people.
Acts 14:14But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they tore their clothes, and sprang into the multitude, crying out,But the apostles Barnabas and Paul, having heard [it], rent their garments, and rushed out to the crowd, cryingBut when this came to the ears of the Apostles, Paul and Barnabas, they went running out among the people, parting their clothing, and crying out,
Acts 14:15"Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the sky and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them;and saying, Men, why do ye these things? *We* also are men of like passions with you, preaching to you to turn from these vanities to the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all things in them;Good people, why are you doing these things? We are men with the same feelings as you, and we give you the good news so that you may be turned away from these foolish things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all things in them:
Acts 14:16who in the generations gone by allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways.who in the past generations suffered all the nations to go in their own ways,Who in the past let all nations go in the ways which seemed good to them.
Acts 14:17Yet he didn't leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you rains from the sky and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."though indeed he did not leave himself without witness, doing good, and giving to you from heaven rain and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness. But he was not without witness, because he did good, and gave you rain from heaven and times of fruit, making your hearts full of food and joy.
Acts 14:18Even saying these things, they hardly stopped the multitudes from making a sacrifice to them. And saying these things, they with difficulty kept the crowds from sacrificing to them. And even with these words, it was hard for them to keep the people from making an offering to them.
Acts 14:19But some Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there, and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul, and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. But there came Jews from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds and stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing him to have died. But some Jews came to that place from Antioch and Iconium, and got control over the people; and after stoning Paul, they had him pulled out of the town, taking him for dead.
