Luke 23:1The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.And the whole multitude of them, rising up, led him to Pilate.And they all went and took him before Pilate.
Luke 23:2They began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king."And they began to accuse him, saying, We have found this [man] perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ, a king.And they made statements against him, saying, This man has to our knowledge been teaching our nation to do wrong, and not to make payment of taxes to Caesar, even saying that he himself is Christ, a king.
Luke 23:3Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "So you say."And Pilate demanded of him saying, Art *thou* the king of the Jews? And he answering him said, Thou sayest.And Pilate said to him, Are you the King of the Jews? And he said in answer, You say so.
Luke 23:4Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."And Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, I find no guilt in this man.And Pilate said to the chief priests and the people, In my opinion this man has done no wrong.
Luke 23:5But they insisted, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place."But they insisted, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judaea, beginning from Galilee even on to here.But they became more violent than before, saying, He has made trouble among the people, teaching through all Judaea from Galilee to this place.
Luke 23:6But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.But Pilate, having heard Galilee [named], demanded if the man were a Galilaean;But at these words Pilate said, Is the man a Galilaean?
Luke 23:7When he found out that he was in Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem in those days.and having learned that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, remitted him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem in those days.And when he saw that he was under the authority of Herod, he sent him to Herod, who was in Jerusalem himself at that time.
Luke 23:8Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.And when Herod saw Jesus he greatly rejoiced, for he had been a long while desirous of seeing him, because of hearing many things concerning him, and he hoped to see some sign done by him;Now when Herod saw Jesus he was very glad, having for a long time had a desire to see him, for he had had accounts of him, and was hoping to see some wonders done by him.
Luke 23:9He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.and he questioned him in many words, but *he* answered him nothing.And he put a great number of questions to him, but he said nothing.
Luke 23:10The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.And the chief priests and the scribes stood and accused him violently.And the chief priests and the scribes were there, making statements against him violently.
Luke 23:11Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.And Herod with his troops having set him at nought and mocked him, having put a splendid robe upon him, sent him back to Pilate.And Herod, with the men of his army, put shame on him and made sport of him, and dressing him in shining robes, he sent him back to Pilate.
Luke 23:12Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.And Pilate and Herod became friends with one another the same day, for they had been at enmity before between themselves.And that day Herod and Pilate became friends with one another, for before they had been against one another.
Luke 23:13Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,And Pilate, having called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,And Pilate sent for the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them,
Luke 23:14and said to them, "You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and see, I have examined him before you, and found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.said to them, Ye have brought to me this man as turning away the people [to rebellion], and behold, I, having examined him before you, have found nothing criminal in this man as to the things of which ye accuse him;You say that this man has been teaching the people evil things: now I, after going into the question before you, see nothing wrong in this man in connection with the things which you have said against him:
Luke 23:15Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.nor Herod either, for I remitted you to him, and behold, nothing worthy of death is done by him.And Herod is of the same opinion, for he has sent him back to us; for, you see, he has done nothing for which I might put him to death.
Luke 23:16I will therefore chastise him and release him."Having chastised him therefore, I will release him.And so I will give him punishment and let him go.
Luke 23:17Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.( Now he was obliged to release one for them at the feast.)[]
Luke 23:18But they all cried out together, saying, "Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!"But they cried out in a mass saying, Away with this [man] and release Barabbas to us;But with loud voices they said all together, Put this man to death, and make Barabbas free.
Luke 23:19one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.who was one who, for a certain tumult which had taken place in the city, and [for] murder, had been cast into prison.Now this man was in prison because of an attack against the government in the town, in which there had been loss of life.
Luke 23:20Pilate spoke to them again, desiring to release Jesus,Pilate therefore, desirous to release Jesus, again addressed [them].And Pilate again said to them that it was his desire to let Jesus go free.
Luke 23:21but they shouted, saying, "Crucify! Crucify him!"But they cried out in reply saying, Crucify, crucify him.But crying out they said, To the cross with him!
Luke 23:22He said to them the third time, "Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him."And he said the third time to them, What evil then has this [man] done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will chastise him therefore and release him.And he said to them a third time, Why, what evil has he done? I see no reason for putting him to death: I will give him punishment and let him go.
Luke 23:23But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.But they were urgent with loud voices, begging that he might be crucified. And their voices [and those of the chief priests] prevailed.But they went on crying out loudly, Let him be put to death on the cross. And they had their way.
Luke 23:24Pilate adjudged that what they asked for should be done.And Pilate adjudged that what they begged should take place.And Pilate gave his decision for their desire to be put into effect.
Luke 23:25He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.And he released him who, for tumult and murder, had been cast into prison, whom they begged for, and Jesus he delivered up to their will.And in answer to their request, he let that man go free who had been in prison for acting against the government and causing death, and Jesus he gave up to their pleasure.
Luke 23:26When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it after Jesus.And as they led him away, they laid hold on a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the field, and put the cross upon him to bear it behind Jesus.And while they were taking him away, they put their hands on Simon of Cyrene, who was coming from the country, and made him take the cross after Jesus.
Luke 23:27A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.And a great multitude of the people, and of women who wailed and lamented him, followed him.And a great band of people went after him, and of women making signs of grief and weeping for him.
Luke 23:28But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, don't weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.And Jesus turning round to them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep over me, but weep over yourselves and over your children;But Jesus, turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, let not your weeping be for me, but for yourselves and for your children.
Luke 23:29For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.'for behold, days are coming in which they will say, Blessed [are] the barren, and wombs that have not borne, and breasts that have not given suck.For the days are coming in which they will say, Happy are those who have had no children, whose bodies have never given birth, whose breasts have never given milk.
Luke 23:30Then will they begin to tell the mountains, 'Fall on us!' and to the hills, 'Cover us.'Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall upon us; and to the hills, Cover us:And they will say to the mountains, Come down on us, and to the hills, Be a cover over us.
Luke 23:31For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?"for if these things are done in the green tree, what shall take place in the dry?For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will they do when it is dry?
Luke 23:32There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.Now two others also, malefactors, were led with him to be put to death.And two others, evil-doers, were taken with him to be put to death.
Luke 23:33When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.And when they came to the place which is called Skull, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, the other on the left.And when they came to the place which is named Golgotha, they put him on the cross, and the evil-doers, one on the right side, and the other on the left.
Luke 23:34Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing." Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.And Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And, parting out his garments, they cast lots.And Jesus said, Father, let them have forgiveness, for they have no knowledge of what they are doing. And they made division of his clothing among them by the decision of chance.
Luke 23:35The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!"And the people stood beholding, and the rulers also [with them] sneered, saying, He has saved others; let him save himself if this is the Christ, the chosen one of God.And the people were looking on. And the rulers made sport of him, saying, He was a saviour of others; let him do something for himself, if he is the Christ, the man of God's selection.
Luke 23:36The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,And the soldiers also made game of him, coming up offering him vinegar,And the men of the army made sport of him, coming to him and giving him bitter wine,
Luke 23:37and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!"and saying, If *thou* be the king of the Jews, save thyself.And saying, If you are the King of the Jews, get yourself free.
Luke 23:38An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS."And there was also an inscription [written] over him in Greek, and Roman, and Hebrew letters: This is the King of the Jews.And these words were put in writing over him, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Luke 23:39One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, "If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!"Now one of the malefactors who had been hanged spoke insultingly to him, saying, Art not thou the Christ? save thyself and us.And one of the evil-doers on the cross, with bitter feeling, said to him, Are you not the Christ? Get yourself and us out of this.
Luke 23:40But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Don't you even fear God, seeing you are in the same condemnation?But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost *thou* too not fear God, thou that art under the same judgment?But the other, protesting, said, Have you no fear of God? for you have a part in the same punishment,
Luke 23:41And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong."and *we* indeed justly, for we receive the just recompense of what we have done; but this [man] has done nothing amiss.And with reason; for we have the right reward of our acts, but this man has done nothing wrong.
Luke 23:42He said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom."And he said to Jesus, Remember me, [Lord,] when thou comest in thy kingdom.And he said, Jesus, keep me in mind when you come in your kingdom.
Luke 23:43He said to him, "Most assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise."And Jesus said to him, Verily I say to thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in paradise.And he said to him, Truly I say to you, Today you will be with me in Paradise.
Luke 23:44It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.And it was about [the] sixth hour, and there came darkness over the whole land until [the] ninth hour.And it was now about the sixth hour; and all the land was dark till the ninth hour;
Luke 23:45The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple rent in the midst.The light of the sun went out, and the curtain in the Temple was parted in two.
Luke 23:46Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" Having said this, he breathed his last.And Jesus, having cried with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit. And having said this, he expired.And Jesus gave a loud cry and said, Father, into your hands I give my spirit: and when he had said this, he gave up his spirit.
Luke 23:47When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous man."Now the centurion, seeing what took place, glorified God, saying, In very deed this man was just.And when the captain saw what was done, he gave praise to God, saying, Without doubt this was an upright man.
Luke 23:48All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned beating their breasts.And all the crowds who had come together to that sight, having seen the things that took place, returned, beating [their] breasts.And all the people who had come together to see it, when they saw the things which were done, went back again making signs of grief.
Luke 23:49All his acquaintances, and the women who followed with him from Galilee, stood far away, watching these things.And all those who knew him stood afar off, the women also who had followed him from Galilee, beholding these things.And all his friends and the women who came with him from Galilee, were waiting at a distance, watching these things.
Luke 23:50Behold, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous manAnd behold, a man named Joseph, who was a councillor, a good man and a justNow there was a man named Joseph, a man of authority and a good and upright man
Luke 23:51(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for the kingdom of God:(this [man] had not assented to their counsel and deed), of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who also waited, [himself also,] for the kingdom of God(He had not given his approval to their decision or their acts), of Arimathaea, a town of the Jews, who was waiting for the kingdom of God:
Luke 23:52this man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus' body.he having gone to Pilate begged the body of Jesus;This man went to Pilate and made a request for the body of Jesus.
Luke 23:53He took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no man had ever yet lain.and having taken it down, wrapped it in fine linen and placed him in a tomb hewn in the rock, where no one had ever been laid.And he took it down, and folding it in a linen cloth, he put it in a place cut in the rock for a dead body; and no one had ever been put in it.
Luke 23:54It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was coming on.And it was preparation day, and [the] sabbath twilight was coming on.Now it was the day of making ready and the Sabbath was coming on.
Luke 23:55The women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.And women, who had come along with him out of Galilee, having followed, saw the sepulchre and how his body was placed.And the women who had come with him from Galilee went after him and saw the place and how his body had been put to rest;
Luke 23:56They returned, and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.And having returned they prepared aromatic spices and ointments, and remained quiet on the sabbath, according to the commandment.And they went back and got ready spices and perfumes; and on the Sabbath they took their rest, in agreement with the law.
