Luke 20:1It happened on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, that the chief priests and scribes came to him with the elders. And it came to pass on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and announcing the glad tidings, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up,And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him, with the elders,
Luke 20:2They asked him, "Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?"and spoke to him saying, Tell us by what authority thou doest these things, or who is it who has given thee this authority? And spoke to him, saying, Tell us, By what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
Luke 20:3He answered them, "I also will ask you one question. Tell me:And he answering said to them, *I* also will ask you [one] thing, and tell me:And he answered and said to them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
Luke 20:4the baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?"The baptism of John, was it of heaven or of men?The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?
Luke 20:5They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why didn't you believe him?'And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we should say, Of heaven, he will say, Why have ye not believed him?And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
Luke 20:6But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet."but if we should say, Of men, the whole people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet. But if we say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
Luke 20:7They answered that they didn't know where it was from. And they answered, they did not know whence. And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.
Luke 20:8Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."And Jesus said to them, Neither do *I* tell you by what authority I do these things. And Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
Luke 20:9He began to tell the people this parable. "A man planted a vineyard, and rented it out to some farmers, and went into another country for a long time. And he began to speak to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard and let it out to husbandmen, and left the country for a long time. Then he began to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
Luke 20:10At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him, and sent him away empty. And in the season he sent to the husbandmen a bondman, that they might give to him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen, having beaten him, sent [him] away empty. And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.
Luke 20:11He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. And again he sent another bondman; but they, having beaten him also, and cast insult upon him, sent [him] away empty. And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
Luke 20:12He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him, and threw him out.And again he sent a third; and they, having wounded him also, cast [him] out.And again he sent the third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
Luke 20:13The lord of the vineyard said, 'What will I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.'And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: perhaps when they see him they will respect [him].Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be when they see him they will reverence him.
Luke 20:14But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.'But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; [come,] let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours. But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
Luke 20:15They threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them? And having cast him forth out of the vineyard, they killed [him]. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do to them?So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
Luke 20:16He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others." When they heard it, they said, "God forbid!"He will come and destroy those husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it they said, May it never be!He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, may that never be.
Luke 20:17But he looked at them, and said, "Then what is this that is written, 'The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the chief cornerstone?'But he looking at them said, What then is this that is written, The stone which they that builded rejected, this has become the corner-stone?And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
Luke 20:18"Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush whoever it falls on to dust."Every one falling on this stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it shall grind him to powder.Whoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
Luke 20:19The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him that very hour, but they feared the people for they knew He had spoken this parable against them. And the chief priests and the scribes sought the same hour to lay hands on him, and they feared the people; for they knew that he had spoken this parable of them. And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
Luke 20:20They watched him, and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor. And having watched [him], they sent out suborned persons, pretending to be just men, that they might take hold of him in [his] language, so that they might deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor. And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him to the power and authority of the governor.
Luke 20:21They asked him, "Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren't partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.And they asked him saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest no [man's] person, but teachest with truth the way of God:And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
Luke 20:22Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Cesar, or not?
Luke 20:23But he perceived their slyness, and said to them, "Why do you test me?But perceiving their deceit he said to them, Why do ye tempt me?But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, Why tempt ye me?
Luke 20:24Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?" They answered, "Caesar's."Shew me a denarius. Whose image and superscription has it? And answering they said, Caesar's.Show me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cesar's.
Luke 20:25He said to them, "Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."And he said to them, Pay therefore what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God.And he said to them, Render therefore to Cesar the things which are Cesar's, and to God the things which are God's.
Luke 20:26They weren't able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer, and were silent. And they were not able to take hold of him in [his] expressions before the people, and, wondering at his answer, they were silent. And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace.
Luke 20:27Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection. And some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, coming up [to him],Then came to him certain of the Sadducees (who deny that there is any resurrection) and they asked him,
Luke 20:28They asked him, "Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his brother.demanded of him saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother, who has a wife, die, and he die childless, his brother shall take the wife and raise up seed to his brother.Saying, Master, Moses wrote to us, If any man's brother should die, having a wife, and he should die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.
Luke 20:29There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless. There were then seven brethren: and the first, having taken a wife, died childless; There were therefore seven brothers: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
Luke 20:30The second took her as wife, and he died childless.and the second [took the woman, and *he* died childless];And the second took her for a wife, and he died childless.
Luke 20:31The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.and the third took her: and in like manner also the seven left no children and died; And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: And they left no children, and died.
Luke 20:32Afterward the woman also died.and last of all the woman also died.Last of all the woman died also.
Luke 20:33Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife."In the resurrection therefore of which of them does she become wife, for the seven had her as wife? Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
Luke 20:34Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry, and are given in marriage. And Jesus said to them, The sons of this world marry and are given in marriage,And Jesus answering, said to them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
Luke 20:35But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage.but they who are counted worthy to have part in that world, and the resurrection from among [the] dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; But they who shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage.
Luke 20:36For neither can they die any more, for they are like the angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.for neither can they die any more, for they are equal to angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
Luke 20:37But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord 'The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'But that the dead rise, even Moses shewed in [the section of] the bush, when he called [the] Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob; Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Luke 20:38Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him."but he is not God of [the] dead but of [the] living; for all live for him.For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to him.

Luke 20:42David himself says in the book of Psalms, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, and David himself says in the book of Psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right handAnd David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

Luke 20:46"Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts;Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and who love salutations in the market-places, and first seats in the synagogues, and first places at suppers;Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
Luke 20:47who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these will receive greater condemnation."who devour the houses of widows, and as a pretext make long prayers.
