Judges 13:1 | The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh; and Yahweh delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years. | And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of Jehovah; and Jehovah gave them into the hand of the Philistines forty years. | |
Judges 13:2 | There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and didn't bear. | And there was a certain man of Zoreah, of the family of the Danites, and his name was Manoah. And his wife was barren and did not bear. | |
Judges 13:3 | The angel of Yahweh appeared to the woman, and said to her, See now, you are barren, and don't bear; but you shall conceive, and bear a son. | And the Angel of Jehovah appeared to the woman, and said to her, Behold now, thou art barren and bearest not; but thou shalt conceive and bear a son. | |
Judges 13:4 | Now therefore please beware and drink no wine nor strong drink, and don't eat any unclean thing: | And now beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat nothing unclean. | |
Judges 13:5 | for, behold, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb: and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. | For lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son, and no razor shall come on his head; for the boy shall be a Nazarite of God from the womb; and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. | |
Judges 13:6 | Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came to me, and his face was like the face of the angel of God, very awesome; and I didn't ask him whence he was, neither did he tell me his name: | And the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of an angel of God, very terrible; but I did not ask him whence he was, neither did he tell me his name. | |

Judges 13:9 | God listened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah, her husband, wasn't with her. | And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the Angel of God came again to the woman whilst she sat in the field; but Manoah her husband was not with her. | |
Judges 13:10 | The woman made haste, and ran, and told her husband, and said to him, Behold, the man has appeared to me, who came to me the [other] day. | Then the woman hasted and ran, and informed her husband, and said to him, Behold, the man has appeared to me, that came to me that day. | |
Judges 13:11 | Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, Are you the man who spoke to the woman? He said, I am. | And Manoah rose up and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, Art thou the man that didst speak to the woman? And he said, I am. | |
Judges 13:12 | Manoah said, Now let your words happen: what shall be the ordering of the child, and [how] shall we do to him? | And Manoah said, When thy words then come to pass, what shall be the child's manner and his doing? | |
Judges 13:13 | The angel of Yahweh said to Manoah, Of all that I said to the woman let her beware. | And the Angel of Jehovah said to Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware: | |
Judges 13:14 | She may not eat of anything that comes of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing; all that I commanded her let her observe. | she shall not eat of anything that cometh of the vine, neither shall she drink wine or strong drink, nor eat anything unclean: all that I commanded her shall she observe. | |
Judges 13:15 | Manoah said to the angel of Yahweh, I pray you, let us detain you, that we may make ready a kid for you. | And Manoah said to the Angel of Jehovah, I pray thee, let us detain thee, and we will make ready a kid of the goats for thee. | |
Judges 13:16 | The angel of Yahweh said to Manoah, Though you detain me, I won't eat of your bread; and if you will make ready a burnt offering, you must offer it to Yahweh. For Manoah didn't know that he was the angel of Yahweh. | And the Angel of Jehovah said to Manoah, Though thou shouldest detain me, I will not eat of thy bread; and if thou wilt offer a burnt-offering, thou shalt offer it up to Jehovah. For Manoah knew not that he was the Angel of Jehovah. | |
Judges 13:17 | Manoah said to the angel of Yahweh, What is your name, that when your words happen, we may honor you? | And Manoah said to the Angel of Jehovah, What is thy name, that when thy word cometh to pass we may do thee honour? | |
Judges 13:18 | The angel of Yahweh said to him, Why ask you after my name, seeing it is wonderful? | And the Angel of Jehovah said to him, How is it that thou askest after my name, seeing it is wonderful? | |
Judges 13:19 | So Manoah took the kid with the meal-offering, and offered it on the rock to Yahweh: and [the angel] did wondrously, and Manoah and his wife looked on. | Then Manoah took the kid and the oblation, and offered it up to Jehovah upon the rock. And he did wondrously, and Manoah and his wife looked on. | |
Judges 13:20 | For it happened, when the flame went up toward the sky from off the altar, that the angel of Yahweh ascended in the flame of the altar: and Manoah and his wife looked on; and they fell on their faces to the ground. | And it came to pass, as the flame went up from off the altar towards the heavens, that the Angel of Jehovah ascended in the flame of the altar; and Manoah and his wife looked on, and fell on their faces to the ground. | |
Judges 13:21 | But the angel of Yahweh did no more appear to Manoah or to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of Yahweh. | And the Angel of Jehovah appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that it was the Angel of Jehovah. | |
Judges 13:22 | Manoah said to his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. | And Manoah said to his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. | |
Judges 13:23 | But his wife said to him, If Yahweh were pleased to kill us, he wouldn't have received a burnt offering and a meal-offering at our hand, neither would he have showed us all these things, nor would at this time have told such things as these. | But his wife said to him, If Jehovah were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt-offering and an oblation at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would he at this time have told us [such things] as these. | |
Judges 13:24 | The woman bore a son, and named him Samson: and the child grew, and Yahweh blessed him. | And the woman bore a son, and called his name Samson. And the child grew, and Jehovah blessed him. | |
Judges 13:25 | The Spirit of Yahweh began to move him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol. | And the Spirit of Jehovah began to move him at Mahaneh-Dan, between Zoreah and Eshtaol. | |
