Acts 24:1 | After five days, the high priest, Ananias, came down with certain elders and an orator, one Tertullus. They informed the governor against Paul. | And after five days came down the high priest Ananias, with the elders, and a certain orator called Tertullus, and laid their informations against Paul before the governor. | And after five days came down the chief priest Ananias, with the elders, and a certain orator Tertullus, and they made manifest to the governor [the things] against Paul; |
Acts 24:2 | When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, "Seeing that by you we enjoy much peace, and that excellent measures are coming to this nation, | And he having been called, Tertullus began to accuse, saying, Seeing we enjoy great peace through thee, and that excellent measures are executed for this nation by thy forethought, | and he having been called, Tertullus began to accuse [him], saying, `Much peace enjoying through thee, and worthy deeds being done to this nation through thy forethought, |
Acts 24:3 | we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness. | we receive [it] always and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness. | always, also, and everywhere we receive it, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness; |
Acts 24:4 | But, that I don't delay you, I entreat you to bear with us and hear a few words. | But that I may not too much intrude on thy time, I beseech thee to hear us briefly in thy kindness. | and that I may not be further tedious to thee, I pray thee to hear us concisely in thy gentleness; |
Acts 24:5 | For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. | For finding this man a pest, and moving sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a leader of the sect of the Nazaraeans; | for having found this man a pestilence, and moving a dissension to all the Jews through the world a ringleader also of the sect of the Nazarenes |
Acts 24:6 | He even tried to profane the temple. We arrested him. | who also attempted to profane the temple; whom we also had seized, [and would have judged according to our law; | who also the temple did try to profane, whom also we took, and according to our law did wish to judge, |
Acts 24:7 | | but Lysias, the chiliarch, coming up, took [him] away with great force out of our hands, | and Lysias the chief captain having come near, with much violence, out of our hands did take away, |
Acts 24:8 | By examining him yourself you may ascertain all these things of which we accuse him." | having commanded his accusers to come to thee;] of whom thou canst thyself, in examining [him], know the certainty of all these things of which we accuse him. | having commanded his accusers to come to thee, from whom thou mayest be able, thyself having examined, to know concerning all these things of which we accuse him;` |
Acts 24:9 | The Jews also joined in the attack, affirming that these things were so. | And the Jews also joined in pressing the matter against [Paul], saying that these things were so. | and the Jews also agreed, professing these things to be so. |
Acts 24:10 | When the governor had beckoned to him to speak, Paul answered, "Because I know that you have been a judge of this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defense, | But Paul, the governor having beckoned to him to speak, answered, Knowing that for many years thou hast been judge to this nation, I answer readily as to the things which concern myself. | And Paul answered the governor having beckoned to him to speak `Knowing [that] for many years thou hast been a judge to this nation, the more cheerfully the things concerning myself I do answer; |
Acts 24:11 | seeing that you can recognize that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem. | As thou mayest know that there are not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem, | thou being able to know that it is not more than twelve days to me since I went up to worship in Jerusalem, |
Acts 24:12 | In the temple they didn't find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the synagogues, or in the city. | and neither in the temple did they find me discoursing to any one, or making any tumultuous gathering together of the crowd, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city; | and neither in the temple did they find me reasoning with any one, or making a dissension of the multitude, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city; |
Acts 24:13 | Nor can they prove to you the things whereof they now accuse me. | neither can they make good the things of which they now accuse me. | nor are they able to prove against me the things concerning which they now accuse me. |
Acts 24:14 | But this I confess to you, that after the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets; | But this I avow to thee, that in the way which they call sect, so I serve my fathers' God, believing all things which are written throughout the law, and in the prophets; | `And I confess this to thee, that, according to the way that they call a sect, so serve I the God of the fathers, believing all things that in the law and the prophets have been written, |
Acts 24:15 | having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. | having hope towards God, which they themselves also receive, that there is to be a resurrection both of just and unjust. | having hope toward God, which they themselves also wait for, [that] there is about to be a rising again of the dead, both of righteous and unrighteous; |
Acts 24:16 | Herein I also practice always having a conscience void of offense toward God and men. | For this cause I also exercise [myself] to have in everything a conscience without offence towards God and men. | and in this I do exercise myself, to have a conscience void of offence toward God and men always. |
Acts 24:17 | Now after some years, I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings; | And after a lapse of many years I arrived, bringing alms to my nation, and offerings. | `And after many years I came, about to do kind acts to my nation, and offerings, |
Acts 24:18 | amid which they found me purified in the temple, with no crowd, nor yet with tumult. But certain Jews from Asia | Whereupon they found me purified in the temple, with neither crowd nor tumult. But it was certain Jews from Asia, | in which certain Jews from Asia did find me purified in the temple, not with multitude, nor with tumult, |
Acts 24:19 | who ought to have been here before you, and to make accusation, if they had anything against me. | who ought to appear before thee and accuse, if they have anything against me; | whom it behoveth to be present before thee, and to accuse, if they had anything against me, |
Acts 24:20 | Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council, | or let these themselves say what wrong they found in me when I stood before the council, | or let these same say if they found any unrighteousness in me in my standing before the sanhedrim, |
Acts 24:21 | unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing among them, 'Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged before you today!'" | [other] than concerning this one voice which I cried standing amongst them: I am judged this day by you touching [the] resurrection of [the] dead. | except concerning this one voice, in which I cried, standing among them Concerning a rising again of the dead I am judged to-day by you.` |
Acts 24:22 | But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, "When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case." | And Felix, knowing accurately the things concerning the way, adjourned them, saying, When Lysias the chiliarch is come down I will determine your affair; | And having heard these things, Felix delayed them having known more exactly of the things concerning the way saying, `When Lysias the chief captain may come down, I will know fully the things concerning you;` |
Acts 24:23 | He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody, and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him. | ordering the centurion to keep him, and that he should have freedom, and to hinder none of his friends to minister to him. | having given also a direction to the centurion to keep Paul, to let [him] also have liberty, and to forbid none of his own friends to minister or to come near to him. |
Acts 24:24 | But after some days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus. | And after certain days, Felix having arrived with Drusilla his wife, who was a Jewess, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. | And after certain days, Felix having come with Drusilla his wife, being a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith toward Christ, |
Acts 24:25 | As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, "Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will call you to me." | And as he reasoned concerning righteousness, and temperance, and the judgment about to come, Felix, being filled with fear, answered, Go for the present, and when I get an opportunity I will send for thee; | and he reasoning concerning righteousness, and temperance, and the judgment that is about to be, Felix, having become afraid, answered, `For the present be going, and having got time, I will call for thee;` |
Acts 24:26 | He hoped that way that money would be given to him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore also he sent for him more often, and talked with him. | hoping at the same time that money would be given him by Paul: wherefore also he sent for him the oftener and communed with him. | and at the same time also hoping that money shall be given to him by Paul, that he may release him, therefore, also sending for him the oftener, he was conversing with him; |
Acts 24:27 | But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds. | But when two years were completed, Felix was relieved by Porcius Festus as his successor; and Felix, desirous to oblige the Jews, to acquire their favour, left Paul bound. | and two years having been fulfilled, Felix received a successor, Porcius Festus; Felix also willing to lay a favour on the Jews, left Paul bound. |
