Luke 20:1 | It happened on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, that the chief priests and scribes came to him with the elders. | And it came to pass on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and announcing the glad tidings, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up, | And it came to pass, on one of those days, as he is teaching the people in the temple, and proclaiming good news, the chief priests and the scribes, with the elders, came upon [him], |
Luke 20:2 | They asked him, "Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?" | and spoke to him saying, Tell us by what authority thou doest these things, or who is it who has given thee this authority? | and spake unto him, saying, `Tell us by what authority thou dost these things? or who is he that gave to thee this authority?` |
Luke 20:3 | He answered them, "I also will ask you one question. Tell me: | And he answering said to them, *I* also will ask you [one] thing, and tell me: | And he answering said unto them, `I will question you I also one thing, and tell me: |
Luke 20:4 | the baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?" | The baptism of John, was it of heaven or of men? | the baptism of John, from heaven was it, or from men?` |
Luke 20:5 | They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why didn't you believe him?' | And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we should say, Of heaven, he will say, Why have ye not believed him? | And they reasoned with themselves, saying `If we may say, From heaven, he will say, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him? |
Luke 20:6 | But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet." | but if we should say, Of men, the whole people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet. | and if we may say, From men, all the people will stone us, for they are having been persuaded John to be a prophet.` |
Luke 20:7 | They answered that they didn't know where it was from. | And they answered, they did not know whence. | And they answered, that they knew not whence [it was], |
Luke 20:8 | Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things." | And Jesus said to them, Neither do *I* tell you by what authority I do these things. | and Jesus said to them, `Neither do I say to you by what authority I do these things.` |
Luke 20:9 | He began to tell the people this parable. "A man planted a vineyard, and rented it out to some farmers, and went into another country for a long time. | And he began to speak to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard and let it out to husbandmen, and left the country for a long time. | And he began to speak unto the people this simile: `A certain man planted a vineyard, and gave it out to husbandmen, and went abroad for a long time, |
Luke 20:10 | At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him, and sent him away empty. | And in the season he sent to the husbandmen a bondman, that they might give to him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen, having beaten him, sent [him] away empty. | and at the season he sent unto the husbandmen a servant, that from the fruit of the vineyard they may give to him, but the husbandmen having beat him, did send [him] away empty. |
Luke 20:11 | He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty. | And again he sent another bondman; but they, having beaten him also, and cast insult upon him, sent [him] away empty. | `And he added to send another servant, and they that one also having beaten and dishonoured, did send away empty; |
Luke 20:12 | He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him, and threw him out. | And again he sent a third; and they, having wounded him also, cast [him] out. | and he added to send a third, and this one also, having wounded, they did cast out. |
Luke 20:13 | The lord of the vineyard said, 'What will I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.' | And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: perhaps when they see him they will respect [him]. | `And the owner of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my son the beloved, perhaps having seen this one, they will do reverence; |
Luke 20:14 | But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Come, let's kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.' | But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; [come,] let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours. | and having seen him, the husbandmen reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; come, we may kill him, that the inheritance may become ours; |
Luke 20:15 | They threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them? | And having cast him forth out of the vineyard, they killed [him]. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do to them? | and having cast him outside of the vineyard, they killed [him]; what, then, shall the owner of the vineyard do to them? |
Luke 20:16 | He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others." When they heard it, they said, "God forbid!" | He will come and destroy those husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it they said, May it never be! | He will come, and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others.` And having heard, they said, `Let it not be!` |
Luke 20:17 | But he looked at them, and said, "Then what is this that is written, 'The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the chief cornerstone?' | But he looking at them said, What then is this that is written, The stone which they that builded rejected, this has become the corner-stone? | and he, having looked upon them, said, `What, then, is this that hath been written: A stone that the builders rejected this became head of a corner? |
Luke 20:18 | "Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush whoever it falls on to dust." | Every one falling on this stone shall be broken, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it shall grind him to powder. | every one who hath fallen on that stone shall be broken, and on whom it may fall, it will crush him to pieces.` |
Luke 20:19 | The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him that very hour, but they feared the people for they knew He had spoken this parable against them. | And the chief priests and the scribes sought the same hour to lay hands on him, and they feared the people; for they knew that he had spoken this parable of them. | And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him in that hour, and they feared the people, for they knew that against them he spake this simile. |
Luke 20:20 | They watched him, and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor. | And having watched [him], they sent out suborned persons, pretending to be just men, that they might take hold of him in [his] language, so that they might deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor. | And, having watched [him], they sent forth liers in wait, feigning themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his word, to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor, |
Luke 20:21 | They asked him, "Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren't partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. | And they asked him saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest no [man's] person, but teachest with truth the way of God: | and they questioned him, saying, `Teacher, we have known that thou dost say and teach rightly, and dost not accept a person, but in truth the way of God dost teach; |

Luke 20:24 | Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?" They answered, "Caesar's." | Shew me a denarius. Whose image and superscription has it? And answering they said, Caesar's. | shew me a denary; of whom hath it an image and superscription?` and they answering said, `Of Caesar:` |
Luke 20:25 | He said to them, "Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." | And he said to them, Pay therefore what is Caesar's to Caesar, and what is God's to God. | and he said to them, `Give back, therefore, the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;` |
Luke 20:26 | They weren't able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer, and were silent. | And they were not able to take hold of him in [his] expressions before the people, and, wondering at his answer, they were silent. | and they were not able to take hold on his saying before the people, and having wondered at his answer, they were silent. |
Luke 20:27 | Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection. | And some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, coming up [to him], | And certain of the Sadducees, who are denying that there is a rising again, having come near, questioned him, |
Luke 20:28 | They asked him, "Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his brother. | demanded of him saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one's brother, who has a wife, die, and he die childless, his brother shall take the wife and raise up seed to his brother. | saying, `Teacher, Moses wrote to us, If any one`s brother may die, having a wife, and he may die childless that his brother may take the wife, and may raise up seed to his brother. |
Luke 20:29 | There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless. | There were then seven brethren: and the first, having taken a wife, died childless; | `There were, then, seven brothers, and the first having taken a wife, died childless, |
Luke 20:30 | The second took her as wife, and he died childless. | and the second [took the woman, and *he* died childless]; | and the second took the wife, and he died childless, |
Luke 20:31 | The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died. | and the third took her: and in like manner also the seven left no children and died; | and the third took her, and in like manner also the seven they left not children, and they died; |
Luke 20:32 | Afterward the woman also died. | and last of all the woman also died. | and last of all died also the woman: |
Luke 20:33 | Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife." | In the resurrection therefore of which of them does she become wife, for the seven had her as wife? | in the rising again, then, of which of them doth she become wife? for the seven had her as wife.` |

Luke 20:35 | But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage. | but they who are counted worthy to have part in that world, and the resurrection from among [the] dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; | but those accounted worthy to obtain that age, and the rising again that is out of the dead, neither marry, nor are they given in marriage; |
Luke 20:36 | For neither can they die any more, for they are like the angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. | for neither can they die any more, for they are equal to angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. | for neither are they able to die any more for they are like messengers and they are sons of God, being sons of the rising again. |
Luke 20:37 | But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord 'The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' | But that the dead rise, even Moses shewed in [the section of] the bush, when he called [the] Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob; | `And that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the Bush, since he doth call the Lord, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; |

Luke 20:46 | "Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts; | Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and who love salutations in the market-places, and first seats in the synagogues, and first places at suppers; | `Take heed of the scribes, who are wishing to walk in long robes, and are loving salutations in the markets, and first seats in the synagogues, and first couches in the suppers, |
Luke 20:47 | who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these will receive greater condemnation." | who devour the houses of widows, and as a pretext make long prayers. These shall receive a severer judgment. | who devour the houses of the widows, and for a pretence make long prayers, these shall receive more abundant judgment.` |
