Hebrews 7:1For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,For this Melchisedech was king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him:For this Melchisedec, King of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from smiting the kings, and blessed him;
Hebrews 7:2to whom also Abraham divided a tenth part of all (being first, by interpretation, King of righteousness, and then also King of Salem, which is King of peace;To whom also Abraham divided the tithes of all: who first indeed by interpretation, is king of justice: and then also king of Salem, that is, king of peace:to whom Abraham gave also the tenth portion of all; first being interpreted King of righteousness, and then also King of Salem, which is King of peace;
Hebrews 7:3without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God), remains a priest continually.Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but likened unto the Son of God, continueth a priest for ever.without father, without mother, without genealogy; having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but assimilated to the Son of God, abides a priest continually.
Hebrews 7:4Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth out of the best spoils.Now consider how great this man is, to whom also Abraham the patriarch gave tithes out of the principal things.Now consider how great this [personage] was, to whom [even] the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth out of the spoils.
Hebrews 7:5They indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest's office have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brothers, though these have come out of the loins of Abraham,And indeed they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is to say, of their brethren: though they themselves also came out of the loins of Abraham.And they indeed from among the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have commandment to take tithes from the people according to the law, that is from their brethren, though these are come out of the loins of Abraham:
Hebrews 7:6but he whose genealogy is not counted from them has taken tithes of Abraham, and has blessed him who has the promises.But he, whose pedigree is not numbered among them, received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.but he who has no genealogy from them has tithed Abraham, and blessed him who had the promises.
Hebrews 7:7But without any dispute the less is blessed of the better.And without all contradiction, that which is less, is blessed by the better.But beyond all gainsaying, the inferior is blessed by the better.
Hebrews 7:8Here men who die receive tithes, but there one, of whom it is testified that he lives.And here indeed, men that die, receive thithes: but there he hath witness, that he liveth.And here dying men receive tithes; but there [one] of whom the witness is that he lives;
Hebrews 7:9So to say, through Abraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes,And (as it may be said) even Levi who received tithes, paid tithes in Abraham:and, so to speak, through Abraham, Levi also, who received tithes, has been made to pay tithes.
Hebrews 7:10for he was yet in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him.For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedech met him.For he was yet in the loins of his father when Melchisedec met him.
Hebrews 7:11Now if there was perfection through the Levitical priesthood (for under it have the people received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?If then perfection was by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchisedech, and not be called according to the order of Aaron?If indeed then perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, for the people had their law given to them in connexion with *it*, what need [was there] still that a different priest should arise according to the order of Melchisedec, and not be named after the order of Aaron?
Hebrews 7:12For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also of the law.For the priesthood being translated, it is necessary that a translation also be made of the law.For, the priesthood being changed, there takes place of necessity a change of law also.
Hebrews 7:13For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no man has given attendance at the altar.For he, of whom these things are spoken, is of another tribe, of which no one attended on the altar.For he, of whom these things are said, belongs to a different tribe, of which no one has [ever] been attached to the service of the altar.
Hebrews 7:14For it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Judah, as to which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.For it is evident that our Lord sprung out of Juda: in which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.For it is clear that our Lord has sprung out of Juda, as to which tribe Moses spake nothing as to priests.
Hebrews 7:15This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest,And it is yet far more evident: if according to the similitude of Melchisedech there ariseth another priest,And it is yet more abundantly evident, since a different priest arises according to the similitude of Melchisedec,
Hebrews 7:16who has been made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life:Who is made not according to the law of a carnal commandment, but according to the power of an indissoluble life:who has been constituted not according to law of fleshly commandment, but according to power of indissoluble life.
Hebrews 7:17for it is testified, "You are a priest forever, According to the order of Melchizedek."For he testifieth: Thou art a priest for ever, according to the order of Melchisedech.For it is borne witness, *Thou* art a priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedec.
Hebrews 7:18For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessnessThere is indeed a setting aside of the former commandment, because of the weakness and unprofitableness thereof:For there is a setting aside of the commandment going before for its weakness and unprofitableness,
Hebrews 7:19(for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in thereupon of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.(For the law brought nothing to perfection,) but a bringing in of a better hope, by which we draw nigh to God.(for the law perfected nothing,) and the introduction of a better hope by which we draw nigh to God.
Hebrews 7:20Inasmuch as it is not without the taking of an oath,And inasmuch as it is not without an oath, (for the others indeed were made priests without an oath;And by how much [it was] not without the swearing of an oath;
Hebrews 7:21for they indeed have been made priests without an oath; but he with an oath by him that says of him, "The Lord swore and will not change his mind, 'You are a priest forever, According to the order of Melchizedek'".But this with an oath, by him that said unto him: The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever.)(for they are become priests without the swearing of an oath, but he with the swearing of an oath, by him who said, as to him, The Lord has sworn, and will not repent [of it], *Thou* [art] priest for ever [according to the order of Melchisedec];)
Hebrews 7:22By so much has Jesus become the collateral of a better covenant.By so much is Jesus made a surety of a better testament.by so much Jesus became surety of a better covenant.
Hebrews 7:23Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death.And the others indeed were made many priests, because by reason of death they were not suffered to continue:And they have been many priests, on account of being hindered from continuing by death;
Hebrews 7:24But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable.But this, for that he continueth for ever, hath an everlasting priesthood,but he, because of his continuing for ever, has the priesthood unchangeable.
Hebrews 7:25Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.Whereby he is able also to save for ever them that come to God by him; always living to make intercession for us.Whence also he is able to save completely those who approach by him to God, always living to intercede for them.
Hebrews 7:26For such a high priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;For such a high priest became us, holy, harmless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and become higher than the heavens:
Hebrews 7:27who doesn't need, like those high priests, to daily offer up sacrifices, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. For this he did once for all, when he offered up himself.Who needeth not daily (as the other priests) to offer sacrifices first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, in offering himself.who has not day by day need, as the high priests, first to offer up sacrifices for his own sins, then [for] those of the people; for this he did once for all [in] having offered up himself.
Hebrews 7:28For the law appoints men high priests, having infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was after the law, appoints a Son, perfected forevermore.For the law maketh men priests, who have infirmity: but the word of the oath, which was since the law, the Son who is perfected for evermore.For the law constitutes men high priests, having infirmity; but the word of the swearing of the oath which [is] after the law, a Son perfected for ever.
